After 10+ years we finally get a new Full Metal Panic anime series.

Details are coming in now but here's what we do know.

It continues the story after The Second Raid (So expect it to be similar to TSR tonality wise). The studio is in Tokyo so it could be Gonzo but it is not Kyoto Animation

The main staff is composed of people familiar with the franchise. Who specifically (aside from Gatoh below) is not known at the moment.

The same Japanese VA cast is coming back.

Shouji Gatoh (The writer of the Light Novels) is in charge of writing the new anime.

All of the remaining Light Novels will be adapted! This means the series will be adapted to it's entirety!

I'll update the OP as more info comes out.

Edit: So it's come up that Vertical Shaft is apparently a rejected name for the new series. At the time I thought it was the actual subtitle but that is not the case. I've updated the OP and PM'd a mod to change the title.

Edit 2: ANN article is up. Here's a snippet:

Fujimi Shobo announced at the "Fantasia Bunko Big Thanksgiving 2015" event on Saturday that plans for a new anime adaptation of Shoji Gatoh and Shikidouji's Full Metal Panic! light novel series are underway. The announcement did not give any further details about the anime project.

Fujimi Shobo's Dragon Magazine had published a feature on Full Metal Panic! in September 2014 with art that teased "Coming Soon." Shikidouji replied to a fan on Twitter about the illustration at the time saying, "Something is moving along. Please look forward to it."

Nice!

Loved this anime back in the day, was probably one of my favorites. Dunno how it has held up now, but I have alot of great memories and nostalgia of this series.

I liked this one, good charácter development at the end and overall charming.😊 Wonder if its going to be like the third or second season.

Aaaaagghh I'm so excited. Glad that there was a thread for this announcement. Even if it's not KyoAni, I'll take it (and I feel that their current studio doesn't really fit the vibe anymore anyway).

Huh, can't believe it actually happened. Wonder what studio will be handling it? I'll probably give it a watch whenever it comes out.

...yea I don't want the current Kyoani anywhere near this.

I hope that image isn't indicative of the artwork though. The art for the recent Haruhi/Nagoto series was so awkward and that reminds me of it...

Ive been waiting years for this! The light novel series ended ages ago and The Second Raid was so good...

I lost hope this was ever gonna happen.

I saw this show when I tried going to anime club during college. I didn't really understand why everyone else liked it.

I don't remember the story at all from TSR and my favorite bits of the series were 100% Fumoffu but I'm cautiously optimistic.

How far did the novels go after the end of TSR? Would one season be enough to finish it?

First, a new Tenchi Muyo Ryo Ohki announced, now this? The 90's are truly coming back.

I'm going to have to refresh myself on that as well. I was a huge Tenchi guy back in the day but if you asked me to name the story of the Ryo Ohki OVA's I'd probably accidentally put some Tenchi Universe stuff in there.

YESSSSSS!!!! I've been waiting sooo long for this! also Fumoffu was/is fucking terrible.....I was a huge fan of FMA in HS but my friends only cared about Fumoffu....I never understood the hype the humor has to be the WEAKEST part of FMA.

Crazy shit goes down after TSR. And I thought I thought the finale was glorious.

I always thought the artwork in Fumoffu was awkward, and still really enjoyed it.

Hoping that it's close to the Second Raid, I felt that they really nailed it there, but it's been a decade so who knows.

I'd prefer if they tried to match the LN covers or at least the last season, though, rather than "bring it up" to some generalized modern image. Than again, I feel that we've seen a wider range of styles in the past several years than ever before, so maybe they'll go crazy.

If it's two cours, they can finish it in one go. One cour would have to be rushed.

Also, people expecting more Fumoffu fun shouldn't expect too much of this: FMP goes pretty hard edge in its second half, with little place for humour of any kind. You still have the occasional funny dialogue and whatnot, but that's about it.

Aren't there side novels with short stories about the school?

Wow thank the gods they're doing it while the original voice cast is still alive and active (I think?).

Definitely deserves to be completely animated, finally.

I've been waiting for years. YEARS! I'm a little disappointed that KyoAni isn't doing it but they have proven with Little Busters that they're Little Bastards.

Season one was awesome and Fumoffu was love but Second Raid... God damn! I can't wait to do a rewatch for this. I'm so happy right now.
