Make sure you tipped the guy, he did a great job.

Also you should build one of those ladders like you see in the old timey library's. It'll look pretty cool methink.

You know, with a rail that can slide side to side?

Heres a pic, it might or might not look cool in that room.

hqdefault.jpg

The plan was to put this kind of ladder but it will cost US$800 so I decided to wait a few months. Probably next year I will put one of these ladders.

If you don't mind, what does it cost to get something like that built?

I live in Brazil and it cost around US$ 6,000.00 for the wood part plus US$ 800 for the glass shelves.

Must be nice having Chief watch over you while you sleep.
I can safely sleep at night knowing that a Spartan is watching over me. Keeping the monsters under my bed in check. But I must say that he's a terrible dance partner, way too stiff with his moves.

My girlfriend however thinks otherwise.
What TV is that? The colors look so good on that. lol
It's a Philips 9109.

I would only post in this thread when my game room was finished but yesterday I decided to see how some things would fit into the shelves and I took a picture.

2CONhx7h.jpg

I can't wait to see the room finished and with games and consoles.

Here is a picture of how it looks today. Yesterday I started to put some games on the shelves. I don't know if this will be how it will look like in the end as I may change some games to another shelf so that I can fit almost everything without having to do a second line of games.

Can't wait to see the whole room finished!it looks fantastic already! Is this the same area where you play or do you have another set up for it?

I was going to get one of these to adhere to the bottom of my desk for cable management, any opinions or suggestions?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DNM42O/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I have a few of these. The only thing to keep in mind is that the adhesive is very strong. I imagine there's a pretty decent risk of pulling paint off the wall if you leave them there for a long time. Other than that, I love them. They're fairly easy to cut into small strips with a utility knife, and they're very durable once installed and can take a lot of cables/weight.

I built my own desk out of an Ikea countertop so there is no risk of pulling anything off the bottom if I ever choose to remove it.

Here is a panoramic picture after what I did in the weekend and with the LED strips turned off.

In this picture it is missing the SNES games, some N64 CIB games, the loose N64 games and the PS2 games (those are on the other side of the room).
I will display them when the missing shelves arrives.

Holy shit man that's awesome.

Just a small detail though which maybe it's more of a personal thing than anything else.I think that the Atari 2600's retro design is a bit tricky to showcase properly and it often looks out of place with modern furniture set ups IMO.Personally i'd put it on a cabinet that was dedicated to older consoles, side by side with other older consoles because that way i think it wouldn't draw the attention too much.

I thought you had a good point. On the other side of the room there is more empty space that I could put the Atari but I think he would be a bit lost over there because the shelves are black and I didn't put any LED strips. There are a few GCs over there but they can their space. For now I think I will let the Atari where it is but I will keep your post in mind since I think it makes sense.

And here is a picture with better lightning and it shows some consoles:

I just...just goddamn, son, goddamn.

I have this great setup in mind for my own games collection, but even more so than lacking the cash I lack the space I can personalize.

I took a break from working on wiring, and then here's the result of Day 5 and Day 6 of wiring. Day 5 was laying out the speaker wire and then Day 6 was miscellaneous stuff like Wii U sensor bar, Xbox One Kinect camera, PS4 camera, Disney Infinity board, external hard drives, etc.

Old House Wiring

New House Wiring

What a night and day difference with doing some research, planning, and taking my time to do it rather than trying to rush through putting it all together. The wiring is essentially the same with a few exceptions.

1) DirecTV coax cables and box aren't set up since I haven't moved it over to the new place

2) HDMI splitter from DirecTV box going to the receiver and going to the Xbox One was removed

3) HDMI splitter from game systems to another room was removed

4) Optical cables from the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One to a auto switch which went to a Turtle Beach wireless headphones was removed. I figure with the PS4 gold set and now the Xbox One allowing audio through the controller, I might ignore the PS3 and 360 connection and retire the Turtle Beach headphones

5) Old component video cables removed since they were no longer in use after removing the Wii, PS2, Xbox, and upgrading the Xbox 360 to a slim unit with HDMI. These systems were removed at the old house but the component cables were still intertwined with everything so they remained there unused.

Other than those things, it is functionally the same with a dramatic reduction in clutter. A lot of money, time, and effort went into it, but I'm pretty pleased. I'm still trying to figure out how to clean up behind the receiver a bit more if anyone has suggestions. I'm also open to any suggestions on how to make any part of it cleaner if someone sees something that they think could be better. I'll have pictures from the front once a new shelf arrives tomorrow

I think I've found what you're talking about on Amazon. Good reviews, but there are some horror stories as well. I think I'll try my luck with them.

I've had a mirror hanging in the bathroom on 3M Command Strips for over a year. Obviously a damp environment, so not the best situation for adhesion. but it's stuck fast so far.

I've got 7 framed prints on various walls in my house using command strips for 4 years+ and none of them have fallen. You really just need to apply pressure to them once in awhile and it's better to use too many strips than too little. I almost always use at least 3, even if it's overkill for the suggested weight, just in case one fails. Anyway, so far so good.

The pictures in the below setup are of my one-bedroom apartment in upper Manhattan. Space is at a bit of a premium. In my previous apartment in Queens, I had a bookshelf with several rows of games in it, but I have very little shelf space to speak of in this apartment, so all my physical games are kept in binders now.

All of my PC equipment is from 2011, save for the chair, which I bought earlier this year. The TV is also from 2011; it's 46", if that helps figure out the scale of the picture. The consoles on the table are, from left to right, a PS4 (originally 500 GB, but I've since upgraded with a 2 TB drive), a Wii U, and a 250GB PS3; the left-most box is the cable box, which is not long for this world (cutting the cord in the next couple weeks). The big box on the floor is a receiver I got as a hand-me-down from my father, who also gave me the speaker towers. There is a PS2 slim on the floor to the right of the receiver.

I just moved house with Family, so over the past fortnight I've been running round like a headless chicken setting everything up, unpacking boxes etc. House has a 6 car shed (seperate from 2 car garage) and the damn shed is full, even despite the house also being full (we had some stuff in storage from one house and another house from where we just lived so basically 2 houses worth of stuff moved to this one house so we didn't have to pay storage again. Still looks like we have a lot of stuff we're going to have to sell and other stuff to just dump.

Last time my Home Theatre was in my bedroom as well as PC, but because the bedroom here is small or at least not the right shape I've just put PC in the room and the Home Theatre went into a dedicated room because noone was using it, my old man also decided since the living room looked too 'busy' and his preamp was playing up, I managed to liberate his speakers and amp from him as he was just going to put them somewhere in the shed in storage, so go me I suppose. Results,

Still need to get some cable organisation straps for the cables running the skirting, otherwise done the best I can do with cables short of running wall plates and running the cabling through the wall.

I also need to get some framed movie posters or something to liven the room up a bit in the empty spaces, don't want it to look busy but it looks a little bare bones in places atm.

RC Workshop, because I'm just damned happy to finally have a goddamn workshop instead of working on my RC stuff over a 1200mm bench between 2 cars. Plus I think hanging the RC cars looks kind of cool. Big one wouldn't go on the wall, it actually looks a lot smaller in the picture than it really is. If I tried hanging it up it'd rip the hooks out of the wall and damage the wall instead.

This thread makes me want to get a job lol. So many awesome setups. I wish I had the money to build an amazing man-cave like some of you guys.

My current setup ain't too shabby for a student (I should post some pictures) but it's a far cry from what I can see here.

Mate it's like the car thread, a lot of people probably don't post their stuff unless they have something they think is different, they've saved up over the years or is otherwise just flashy.

If you believed the car thread everyone owns a Porsche, Corvette, Audi, Merc or BMW. You're only seeing a small fraction of people's setups.

When I was young I was jealous of peeps 17" CRTs and PC's with a video card, not a high end card, any dedicated card. A dedicated sound system was like a unicorn.

Obviously working helps but you're better to have a home or property to show for your efforts than a cool man cave as their is no potential return from it, it's just something you accumulate over time.

Also, this is a forum with a lot of members, some people will be struggling while there are some who may have more money than they know what to do with.

I already posted some pictures of my game room but yesterday I finished it and now I want to share with you the whole process. Sorry if it is a lot of pictures. If you guys think it is best I take some out.

At the beginning it was a cinema room and it looked like this.

lWNJM2hl.jpg
dM5UY93l.jpg

Then I decided to hire an architect to design some shelves because I had ran out of space in my bedroom.

After a few months, the assembly work started in the new game room.

This was the first day:

7dVWmlSl.jpg

This was the second day:

On the third day the shelves from the other side arrived and they started to put it together:

37pTiTRl.jpg
qztvhbtl.jpg

On the fourth day it looked this:

Cd8FiDpl.jpg

On the fifth day they finished assembling the bigger shelf but it still need to be finished:

vjl9tb2l.jpg

On the sixth day they did the finishing touches. Now it's missing the rest of the led strips, the glass shelves.

VyziFUul.jpg
YHcVEvil.jpg

On the seventh day all the led strips were put on place.

MACaupkl.jpg

On the eighth day some of the posters got up on the walls. The rest I couldn't fit in the room sadly.

After a few days, the glass shelves arrived and I started to put the games on the shelves.

And this is how it looks now that it is finished.
