Really nervous to play any more arena after having so many matches not sync to the server. Even hours later they don't show in game or on waypoint.
 
So I loved Halo 1-3 but hated Halo 4. Does this Halo seperate itself enough from 4 for me to enjoy it?

If you're picking this up mainly for the Campaign...probably not - not unless you've got some buds to run it co-op and get good replay value out of it. Multiplayer will be good though if you're in for the long haul.

Like you need to capture them in order so that the next one pops up on your HUD. It should always show all available capture points. Half my team didnt know there was another one. They kept going after the same middle one that everyone was fighting after. Until I was close enough another armory popped up on my hud and I captured it easy since no one was around.

You don't. MS didn't find this option necessary.

Yup, agreed. I also just noticed I could have shortened my statement. Basically the opponents armory doesnt show on the map right away unless you are close enough or also (i think) once you have captured the other 2 objectives. All capture points should always show.

Prepare to be extremely disappointed. It was announced months ago that Halo 5 BTB will be 8v8.

as it should be. Halo BTB is 16 players.

random - anyone else feel like there is no shield notification to give warning? In previous Halos, your shield would take hits and then POP - and then the screen would be very obvious that you need to get to cover. But in H5, the shield is basically just an extension of the health bar. I find myself not even knowing it's down, or being killed in a shot that takes out part shield and the rest of my health.

You're supposed to be able to judge the damage you're taking but the shield pop, but you can't.

Unfortunately, you cannot. I don't know why, either. If you get a few friends, poke Xbox Support, and submit the idea in the Preview Program, it might show up eventually, but chances are slim.

The reason you can't is likely because of the headphone jack and stereo headset adapter peripheral. It's super easy to get a headset that can be utilized with those, so I guess MS just settled on that solution instead. It's weird, and I'm not a fan, but that's business, I guess.
 
Man, that blood gulch remake looks amazing for being Forge. That CE magnum looks sweet, but are they kidding me? If I got it, I'm not going to use it only to lose it to some random who takes me out.

I don't even like using SAW reqs because I might lose it quick. Gonna hoard all of these.

Standalone legendary/mythic weapon, with the same firing sound, power and melee animation of the CE magnum, basically every CE fan's wet dream.

Only works for me sometimes.

Also, what's with "Retrieving data" after every match now? Then it says there was a problem.

That's not exactly a Halo 5 problem, happens to other games on me as well, the suspend/resume is just not very consistent.

People need to remember that it's OK to lose a match. So many people just quit, two matches in a row I am the only player left on my team within the first two minutes. The rest of the match is me getting slaughtered.

Anyone else getting pretty frequent lag problems in multiplayer? I don't have that happen with any other game but it's pretty regular here.

Today in Arena has been pretty hit-and-miss for me which I'm not sure what to make of because 343 said Aussie's would be matched with Aussie's at launch, I guess they didn't say others wouldn't get matched with us.

I know the TTK is pretty high but I'm getting a good 2secs jump on some people from behind and they're still beating me to the kill. It's like my bullets do nothing to some people and it reminds me exactly of CoD where one game I can go 20-5 and the next 5-20.

Right now everything else is almost perfect but the lag is frustrating as hell.

I'm actually disappointed that it isn't a new high fidelity model made to perfectly represent the original design. The low poly-ness makes it look goofy and out of place.

This has happens a lot since CoD became popular. Not saying people didn't quit back in the day, but it is a lot worse now.

Haha, they showed it in the Sprints. No word on whether it'll release, whether they'll do anything with it, but they made some kind of Blood Gulch remake in Forge and they showed it for a second or two.

Just saying that I have it. Maybe if I end up getting more than one I'd use it, but even then, if it's so rare that you never get it, I'd probably keep it rather than use it, almost like a collection etc.

And no, the CE Magnum is a Mythic/Legendary variant that will probably be one of the deadliest weapons in Warzone, like Linda's sniper.

I haven't even touched MP yet, I'm just having a blast with the campaign. Not sure why some people aren't digging the story.

I'm up to mission 12 and so far I am thoroughly enjoying it. Bravo 343i!

What did they mean when they said it would be prettied up and worked on. I mean if they are Forge maps, what could they do above and beyond you? Just like small touch ups, slight details you might have missed, or would they be able to do some development magic and bring in non Forge assets?



Was it huge pressure being asked to design and make the map and then have the team play it in 5 days etc. Obviously Forge and creation is what you guys do, but I think even with a month I wouldn't be able to do a fraction of what I saw. Can't wait to see what you guys have done though.
We only had time to block the maps out and lay down the basic structure. Some were more complete than others for various reasons. If we had a few more days they would have been complete. You have to consider that we had to go from concept to a playable state in under 2 days, and had nightly tests to prepare for each day. Having to split off a branch version for each test cut deeply into the build time but the feedback we received from the devs and pros made it worth every minute.

I will be talking about my experience and the complete build in an interview for Sik's site soon.


You did Standoff right? They showed it for a split second on the Halo 5 Live stream, looked pretty sexy.
Yes, i did Standoff and tried to remain faithful to the original. There were some additional structures in their build, and one section which contained pieces that didn't exist in our build.
 
Hit my internet data cap, so no multiplayer for me until the 6th.
Guess I get to finish the campaign then.

I'm already itching for more breakout...
 
So I started the game on Legendary for my first playthrough, solo.

Only on Mission 3, but the beginning of it took me a solid 20 minutes to work through killing all those Promethean in the beginning area.

Yeah, Promethean are not fun to play against in this game. Freaking bullet sponges, in a game where the ammo is so fucking limited I have to constantly drop my starting BR after just 5 kills with it, and pick up terrible weapons like Suppressors.

EDIT: Just lost 20 minutes of progress because 343 didn't give me a check point. :( Is the Checkpoint system stingy in this game, or am I just missing them? I'm in safe areas, so I don't know why I don't get any.

The new pistol feels so good, love the aim feeling of everything so far.

I really like helljumper for a control scheme so far.

Warzone is super fun, when your team isn't getting crushed. Then it's still pretty fun tho

Sorry for the shitty quality. Paused and took with phone quickly. Not sure how Xbox screenshot shares work. Probably a massive image so I quoted it.

They talk about how they made it and test stuff with it. Basin, codename: Blood Gulch etc. Not sure if it'll ever release. It could be like how Certain Affinity created Battle Creek/Beaver Creek really quickly to show off H2A Forge to IGN but we never saw it release ever etc.

They are not bullet sponges if you hit the weak points. :)

Good to see I'm not the only one who hates promethazine as well. They're really awful and make the game tedious.
 
Just wrapped up the Legendary campaign which took about 8.5 hours with 4 player coop. HUGELY enjoyed it. Level design and, of course, basic gameplay are an absolute joy. Weirdly, I think I actually might have preferred Prometheans to Covenant this go around; the combat loop is very different from 4, and they're brutally tough. I'll never forget when a bunch of Soldiers grabbed a Warthog and started donging on all four of us. Seriously, it was a slaughter. Must have wiped 5 times trying to kill the damn things. It never really felt unfair, just incredibly difficult, almost darksoulsy. Prometheans in 5 demand precision and strict adherence to their combat patterns; if you just try to go for headshots on everything, you're gonna have a bad, bad time. You need to strip the soldier's armor first, which is best done with an automatic weapon like the Suppressor. The Covenant received a number of interesting new tools and behaviors as well, most notably the pronounced tendency to jump fucking everywhere, stay still god dammit and let me shoot you in the head.

Ahem.

Now, the story. Much has been said of it, and while I say that it was quite good (better than most videogame stories), it does have its issues. The front half or so is rather... unfocused, which weighs things down considerably. I'm going to have to do another playthrough (probably on a lower difficulty) to really soak everything in; a lot of character details are passed on through in-mission banter, which is easy to miss when you're desperately fighting to stay alive. And then of course there's the intel, but I'd prefer not to figure that in to any general accounting of the narrative because let's be real here, most people aren't ever going to hear most of it.

But on the whole it was pretty good. Locke was more interesting than a lot of people claimed him to be, but still the weakest member of Osiris, personality wise. Buck was the strongest, of course, followed by Tanaka and Vale. Blue Team is a whole 'nother kettle of fish; they play a more... driving role in the plot (AKA it is in fact still very much the MC's story), but get less character visibility. Again, from what I saw. Will need to replay.

It does not end on anything resembling Halo 2's cliffhanger, and does not in fact end on any sort of cliffhanger at all. It's a sequel hook, to be sure, but not a cliffhanger by any reasonable definition. Let's put that to bed.

I feel like the MP is doing this to me:

1. Places me on a team of similar skill level and then loses against higher level players.
2. Then places me on a team similar skill level against similar skill level players.
3. It then sees that I win and then goes back to step 1.

It's annoying. I can't go on a win streak because this keeps happening.

Like why are level 13's ranked playing against 5 and 4's unranked?

Those are not skill ranks. What you see are the Spartan ranks, aka how much someone has played the game.

I'm noticing that it fluctuates from game to game. I am also 100% sure that it is chucking me in US servers. Grenade lag, people not dying when they should, getting shot around corners etc.

I'm begining to think that 343 have been liberal with the truth.... Again!

Ugh. I think you suffer the same issues that I do with lack of regional servers, I haven't bought the game yet so it will be interesting to hear your views over the next few days.
