Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

Yeah, that 100% CPU usage is odd, especially at start up and sometimes staying when in the menus. I just started the game for the first time in over a month to check the settings, exited and got stuck on a black screen.

When the last 'big' patch hit they updated it that day. My 970 went from being recommended to turn everything on max except for fog effects, to turning everything down and all the nvidia stuff off.
Same and I know it updated but that's what I'm saying, they're awfully "safe" settings. Trilinear filtering? Really? Certain settings probably aren't important which is why they're not listed but it's still odd that some of the graphic settings are missing.

Well in my situation I bought a 980ti earlier than I had planned because a local retailer was running the "buy this video card get the game free promotion" and I was going to buy the game on ps4 anyways so I said fuck it and bought it then. Then like two weeks later they changed the promotion to a free mgsv which apparently runs with no issues but here am I sitting fucked over with a broken game.

Its true I won't be buying a WB title in the future though.

Didn't you contact the retailer after the promotion change? Many of us did and got MGSV codes, NewEgg was especially good with giving them out to people who bought a NVIDIA card due to that promotion.

Yeah, they shouldn't have and it's shocking that they did. But they gave everyone who bought from a proper retailer the opportunity to return it for a full refund regardless of how much time they spent on it, they released a patch which fixed most things on mid-high end systems (low end systems are still fucked, probably) and they waited until it was running okay for most people before putting it back on sale. They also apologised multiple times.

If you're unhappy with the way they've handled the situation then just don't buy WB games anymore. Yeah, they'll have lost a lot of goodwill by doing nothing but considering how quickly people jumped on Mad Max when it was reported to be a good port I doubt they're concerned about that.

I think there's a chance that they do give something away and are waiting for the game to be officially available before announcing it, so people aren't rushing to buy keys off of a reseller a day or two before rerelease to get the 'free' stuff.

I believe Ubi did the same with Unity. It was like "if you have played it before midnight yesterday", so people didn't pile in just on account of the bonuses.

There's even a very easy way to do it: just give out a 100% off un-tradable voucher to Batman AK Premium owners on Steam. But they won't do that.

I definitely don't plan on spending a dime of my money on anymore WB published games, and I sure as shit won't support Rocksteady from this point forward. They're both to blame in equal measure as far as I'm concerned.

Hi, please explain what Rocksteady has to do with a port they didn't make and didn't have the option of doing so?

Do we still not know if there is another performance patch incoming? I have been holding off so far, but from what I hear the game is almost there, but not quite, in terms of smoothness and performance.

But it runs great on a 980ti now, I get 60fps at 1440p. Far superior to the PS4 version.

Hi, please explain what Rocksteady has to do with a port they didn't make and didn't have the option of doing so?

That's exactly why they're at fault. There was no clue that someone else was handling development of the PC version until people started getting the physical PC boxes in their hands the day of/day before launch. So they didn't have the option of doing the PC port? Inform people about it.

People had faith in the PC version of Arkham Knight prior to launch because they had handled the PC versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City internally. Arkham Asylum was an amazingly optimized port that ran beautifully. Arkham City, while having a few issues with DX11 renderer, ran just as well as AA in DX9 mode.

I know I made the statement, as well as many others I saw both on GAF and other boards that since it's a Rocksteady game it'll be fine, look at AA and AC. People placed their faith in Rocksteady because of how those ports handled, and then they couldn't even be bothered to announce that they weren't even doing the port for the PC version. I mean, hell, on Day 1 when AK PC launched and people launched the game, there was STILL no sign in the actual game that someone else had ported it. The first three splash screens you saw were Nvidia, Warner Bros and Rocksteady. Not Iron Galaxy.

And hell, when the PC issues came to light the impression I got from Rocksteady from comments made on twitter was they were basically throwing Iron Galaxy under the bus for the entire mess as they weren't responsible for the port.

Sorry, how they acted in regards to the whole thing doesn't sit well with me and makes them equal in blame with Warner Bros as far as I'm concerned. You don't agree? That's fine with me.

You have a lot of faith in the idea that Rocksteady, as an entity belonging to WB, was allowed to disclose or even mention the fact that they weren't doing the PC port before launch. It's not like they specifically mentioned that they WERE doing it and then ended up not doing it.

It's not Rocksteady's job to "inform people about it," it's WB's. It's not even possible for Rocksteady to speak out of line and tell people that kind of info ahead of when WB wants them to.

Shit on WB all you want for this garbage port, dude, they deserve it, but trying to say Rocksteady had some form of moral obligation to save people from buying it using methods that most likely aren't even impossible can't be described as anything other than stone cold stupid.

Then maybe they should have been a bit smarter in how they acted afterwards and the statements made. The entire treatment of IG came off as sleazy to me.

The whole them not being able to or not being able to is, I will admit, based on assumptions on both ends. No one here knows what exactly they could and couldn't say.

And where did I say that Rocksteady had a moral obligation? I said that people had faith in Rocksteady and the PC version of Arkham Knight because of how the PC ports of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City had been handled and how they performed, and that if they weren't handling the PC port they should have informed people. Where in that phrase was I implying they had a moral obligation to do so? Obviously they're not obligated to do anything, but it would have been nice that there had been some sort of information prior about what studio was responsible for handling the PC version. It's not like all publishers hide that information. For example, people knew that Netherrealm wasn't handling the PC version of MK:X prior to release, and that's another WB published title.

I mean, shit on my opinion and call it and me stupid all you want, but don't stick words in my mouth to do so.

I contacted Amazon and EVGA and they told me too bad essentially. Leaving me with a broken mess.

Amazon gave you nothing? I remember there were a few Gaffers who got a $60 refund from Amazon over the mess.

I got the game with my 980ti. They told me to contact EVGA. I tried with two different reps, both telling me the same thing. EVGA said too bad.

I remember in a Angry Joe interview with RS they said that they would ensure the quality and standards fans come to expect of the PC version. That was a crock of shit. WB and RS are equally at fault. They should have delayed a PC port if they knew there were issues. Rocksteady was comfortable with letting their name be on as developers they can take the blame as equally. I'm not sure how some of you don't understand that. Or would defend them.

Man, I'd have tried a different Amazon rep. I know there were at least two gaffers who said Amazon ended up giving them a $60 credit when they explained the mess with the Batman port. As someone who worked Customer Service, the response you get is totally dependent on the person you talk to. Always try several times if possible, because you can get a different outcome each time.

And thanks for reminding me about the Angry Joe interview! Really puts everything that happened into an interesting perspective.

I definitely don't plan on spending a dime of my money on anymore WB published games, and I sure as shit won't support Rocksteady from this point forward. They're both to blame in equal measure as far as I'm concerned. If someone wants to gift me a WB game (as was the case with Mad Max) I'll gladly play it, but I personally won't support them with what little spending money I currently have. I mean, this was a company that went out of its way mere hours before AK's launch to make sure Nvidia promo copies wouldn't get the Steam pre-order bonuses when they were all set to prior to that happening. Oh, and the whole "Chipmunk Gate" thing where Nvidia uploaded gameplay at 60fps that was just 30fps footage sped up. No one came out of this looking good.

I don't know, I just expected better from them then a few empty promises and a reminder to buy the Season Pass to get access to all the DLC. I'd like to support further Netherealm games, for instance, because they know how to promote customer loyalty. When Mortal Kombat X on PC released a patch that killed people's save games, those that were affected were given the unlock DLC as a freebie. It was just something small, but it was a nice gesture I thought. However, since their games are published by WB I just don't see me picking them up with my own funds.

This whole debacle was a disappointment from start to finish, and honestly, there wasn't anything they could really do to please everyone about everything. They still seemed to go out of their way to make things worse for themselves on how they did handle it though.

The last big patch actually gave me worse performance. Even in the game's broken state, when running off an SSD I was able to get a locked 30fps at 2880x1620 with everything on/high except the nvidia exclusive effects without stutter on a single OC'd 970.

Now I can't even get a locked 30 at 2560x1440 with the same settings, and it stutters like mad even on the SSD. I've since uninstalled it, just not worth my time and aggravation right now when there's other stuff I need to play.

Considering the publisher decided to farm out the PC development how can you possibly pin this on Rocksteady when they had 0 to do with it?

Here, I'll let Krappadizzle's post be a TLDR.

For a company that had 0 to do with it, they sure didn't mind talking up stuff to insure those pre-orders.

Funny then how people knew from Ed Boon that Netherrealm wasn't working on the PC version of MK:X.

Look, maybe you guys should find a new target to white knight. My opinion won't change of the situation, and I'm sure Rocksteady doesn't give a shit what some random person on the internet thinks of them.

I just don't understand how you can not support one of the best developers in the gaming industry over something they had no control over. They didn't owe telling anyone who was working on the PC version.

And on my end I just don't understand how people can defend Rocksteady in this situation. They had no problem putting their name on the final product to the point where Iron Galaxy's logo doesn't even appear when you started the game on PC.

For a company that is one of the best in the industry, you'd think they'd make sure that their final entry in the franchise that essentially made them what they are today was up to snuff on all platforms.

How about sending some of their engineers over to assist the company that the port was outsourced to? They seemed to have no problem doing it once shit hit the fan and the game got yanked from sale.

I mean, really -- why do you care so much that I won't support Rocksteady from this point forward? I'm sure plenty more people will pick up my slack so far as that's concerned. So I'm being mean to a studio for a reason that matters to no one but myself, boo hoo hoo.

Because your expectations regarding what Rocksteady is actually able to do is completely unrealistic in the corporate business world that has become video games? WB, not Rocksteady paid for Batman AK to be developed and had to sign off on the resources working on the project. They had to give the ok to delay the game the couple times it was delayed, and they were the ones to sign off and pay for where the resources were allocated while the console and PC port were developed. They also were the ones that had to agree to pay for the Rocksteady resources to get involved and fix the PC port.

Rocksteady worked for WB and their hands were tied. Welcome to the real world.

No one is blameless in this debacle, not Rocksteady, Iron Galaxy of WB. WB's fault overall for allowing the situation to happen at all and not just delaying the game again, Iron Galaxy handling the port (albeit probably without a lot of time) and Rocksteady for seemingly missing the original release date.

It's so cute how you like to talk down to people.

My whole issue was, again, that nothing was said about how they weren't handling the PC version and were completely coy about it when asked. Lots of people have had various comments (They couldn't because of WB, for example)

But when I mention that NetherRealm / Ed Boon admitted they weren't doing the PC version of MK:X in-house and were only handling the current gen versions, no one says anything to that. Mind you, that admission was MONTHS before MK:X was released.

NetherRealm is also owned by WB. Oh, and High Voltage Studios also had their splash screen in the beginning of MK:X (Well, prior to them getting axed off the port and another company having to fix it.)

So, when one company that is owned by WB is able to do it, how is it a 'completely unrealistic expectation' that another company owned by WB also do it? I mean, it's entirely possible that Rocksteady had a different contract and COULDN'T say anything. Still doesn't make what I would have wanted out of the situation (a head's up, as it were) completely unrealistic considering it had already happened at least once.

No one is blameless in this debacle, not Rocksteady, Iron Galaxy of WB. Welcome to the circle of madness, Spring. I fear your logic will be ignored.

Beat the game yesterday in 3K@60FPS. One of the greatest gaming experiences ever imo. Going back to Gotham City after the patch is released. This one`s worth a second playthrough...and a third...

Not sure if posted, but statement on Steam:

Greetings Batman: Arkham Fans!

The PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight is back up and available today! We are genuinely thankful to the Batman: Arkham fans, the Steam Batman: Arkham Community, and the PC Players who have patiently waited for this day. As a show of our appreciation to our fans in this process, we are pleased to announce three community focused programs to help us commemorate the re-launch of the game.

To kick things off, we will be giving away FREE digital copies of games from the Batman: Arkham library. This means we will be giving away copies of Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, Batman: Arkham City GOTY, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. The Batman: Arkham library of games will be given to everyone who has already purchased or will purchase Batman: Arkham Knight for PC prior to 11:59 pm PDT, November 16, 2015. We’re actively working with our partners at Valve to make this happen as soon as we can, so watch your Steam Library. We are aiming to deliver all of the games by December.

Seeing as our community was a great help in getting the game up and running, Rocksteady will be creating a new "Community Challenge Pack” that will be given free to owners of the Batman: Arkham Knight game in January 2016. As thanks to the Steam Community, PC players will have access to the maps for a week before they hit the consoles. Stay tuned for more details on this in the Batman: Arkham Community and Social Channels.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce that we are working with Valve and the Team Fortress 2 team for a special cross-game promotion. Through November 16, 2015, Valve will be running a contest for the Steam community to create Batman: Arkham themed cosmetic items for Team Fortress 2. The winning items will be given out to those who purchased Batman: Arkham Knight on Steam before the end of the contest. You can check out the official TF2 blog for all the contest details!

To recap, if you own Batman: Arkham Knight for PC or purchase it before November 16, 2015, you will get:
Free digital copies of games from the Batman: Arkham library.
The "Community Challenge Pack” DLC.
The Batman: Arkham inspired Team Fortress 2 items created by the Batman: Arkham community.

Thanks again for your feedback and support.

Guess it's a good thing I didn't buy Blackgate :lol

Not a bad deal for people who didn't have the older games (or were hesitant on Origins mostly) but oh well.

Thats cool, but I already own Arkham Asylum, City, and Origins.

I hope that TF2 item sells for gigabux at least.

Wow, they actually did offer reparations. Nothing except the Community DLC is of any worth to me since I already own all the Batman games on steam and don't play TF2, but hey good on them for offering something.

Still would have preferred free Season Pass, but oh well.

Oh yeah, watch us Nvidia promo copies not get anything. That would be something.

We also got screwed out of the Steam exclusive costumes.

Interesting to note that the Linux / MAC version of AK got pushed back.

The "lesser rain effects when resuming from a saved game" bug is still there in full force. In spite of all my tweets and emails, they've never acknowledged the issue, so I'm not surprised. It's a shame, though, since I can't help feeling like playing the PS4 version instead with the proper effects in place.

I feel a tad silly for having waited to play the PC version. :p

Basically yeah.

Arkham Asylums got ~2.4 million owners. City ~2.7m. Origins is the low outlier, but still having 1.6m.

Also nobody wants blackgate, as you can see by its 74k owners.
