Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition PC 05/11/15 + Loyalty Program

MUnited83

For you.
Offering it for free for only the franchise pack owners is stupid as fuck. What kind of "loyalty" program is that? "Loyalty" means " i bought the franchise pack for a few bucks on sale"?

This makes no sense whatsoever. I own every single thing that is included with the Franchise pack and yet I don't get the same benefits? Come on now.

The franchise thing is a bit clumsy, but it's kind of hard to get mad about it given that it's only like 6 bucks, and I wasn't really expecting the Deathinitive Edition to be free anyway.

I also never got that far into the 2nd game.

Hope a 3rd game happens eventually. The 2nd game seemed like it improved on some aspects while fumbling on others. I feel there's still a decent amount of space in the market for grimdark Zelda. Most of 3rd person stuff seems to go more towards the Uncharted formula.

Mh, I wanted to pick it up on PS4 but now that it's officially announced for PC I'm going to take that version.
I'm tier 3 but 20% is already a good reduction.

More than likely yea it would have been too much work with the different sku's and such. He did post later in the comments they had to bind tier 1 to a single SKU though. Here is the main quote from the dev if anybody is interested in it:

They could've added it to season pass for example or made website that check ownership instead of automatically adding it libraries if they absolutely needed ownership for all DLC.

It would have been awesome if they allowed people who owned the game with all of the DLC the upgrades for free, but whatever. Hopefully the game actually runs on my system as the original DSII ran shittily.

Well, that's great news to read. Looks like I'm on the bandwagon for a free upgrade thanks to a Steam Sale last year, in which I bought the pack (just double checked).

Also at a good timing, since I've been wanting to replay this again.

Quite a good move of Nordic Games as well, I'm really curious on what they have in store for the future of the franchise. Really hoping to hear about something soon.

Yeah, the account page is where it's always been. I mentioned using Steam's console, though, as the purchase history page now only loads what looks to be 100 transactions at a time, so if you buy stuff on Steam regularly or bought the pack a long time ago, it'd be well and truly buried. For instance, I have to click "Load more transactions" come September 8th and I bought the pack last August.

Licenses page is still one page.

This component of it does definitely suck. I feel like it might be worth contacting their support email or something and seeing if theres anyway you can get a free key. They took the easy way out but may be willing to compromise on a case to case basis if you reach out.

Already have the Steam version. Just bought the PS4 version and will now triple dip again when it gets released tomorrow. Sweet.

Bought the D2 Franchise pack from Amazon years ago when THQ was about to go under. Then bought the soundtrack when it was on sale later. Do I get this for free? Aww, that sucks. Bummer.

No, as you bought a bundle Amazon itself put together, not the one THQ created. That's why there were separate keys and you had to later buy the soundtrack (Nordic added the soundtracks to the "real" Franchise Pack, for lack of a better descriptor).

Did you buy the "Franchise Pack" specifically? People (like me) who bought everything separately, as well as those that bought the "Franchise Pack" on Amazon and got separate keys only get an 80% discount for 1 week.

That's pretty lame and I guess I'll be skipping out on this edition.

If you own both already and this is "the same fucking game", why do you need it?

I don't, but I wouldn't say no to free shit

Divinity OS developers continue to trump these AAA greedy bastards. Vanishing of Ethan Carter devs also gave away their update for free to owners. "loyalty" program :lol

So 0% off after the first week?

It's possible the 80% loyalty discount will be extended, but even so I don't see that same courtesy being applied to the 20% launch discount those without Darksiders 2 will be receiving.

Darksiders 2 is a much bigger game than Ethan Carter, I don't think its fair to compare the two.

Nordic Games also had to pay for the rights for Darksiders franchise so I assume they want to make some money for their investment....

Looking at the replies it'll be $30 and I believe $30 is the current price for Darksiders II so yeah, this is kinda lame. $6 isn't too big of a deal though.

I will easily throw in $6 for this. I started the game but never finished it. Darksiders 1 was a lot of fun and 2 was great from what I played.

I don't know why people are complaining about $6. I can see why you feel entitled to get it free but it's not breaking the bank by any means.

Edit : at least Nordic is having this program. Did other remasters have this sort of discount? I sure didn't get FFX / X-2 for free from owning the past games....or TLOU Remastered.

Larian and CDProjekt and The Astronauts should definitely be commended for being so generous and consumer-friendly.

And while I wouldn't call Nordic Games an AAA publisher, I think it's simply unrealistic to expect every publisher to give rereleases away for free to previous owners of the original games and I don't think that Nordic deserves that much hostility for what seems to be a fairly reasonable offer here.

Yeah, the 6 dollar buy in almost feels like an insult. What about people who pre-ordered and bought all dlc? Am I really getting punished because I didn't wait for some discounted franchise pack?

A loyalty discount/reward is par for the course on the PC. Owners of Ethan Carter were given Ethan Carter Redux, owners of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and The Missing Link were afforded 75% off Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, and owners of Letter Quest were given Letter Quest Remastered, to name a few. That re-releases on consoles are virtually always spread across generations (e.g. TLoU on the PS3 -> TLoU:R on the PS4) presumably complicates things.

I mean sure, their definition of loyalty is a bit busted.
But I can't for the life of me find the energy to get mad about it or how unfair it is.

To me, 6€ is good value for the upgrade. The fact that other people get it for free doesn't lessen that value.

I really hate the term "gamer entitlement" but it does basically sum up this thread.

80% discount is fine with me.

They actually say on the thread that they wanted to give it to everyone with "just" the DSII game + all the DLC, but that technically Steam said it was too much of a hassle and they should choose one single item (either the Franchise pack, DSII or DSI to my understanding).

So apparently GOG owners of Darksiders 2 and the DLC will get the Deathinitive Edition for free. Makes the Steam Tiers even more of a joke for "fans".

You're right, it is unrealistic to expect all remasters to be free. However, in this case it is free, but only to people who bought it later for less. I think less people would mind if there wasn't a free option in the first place because it feels like it's giving the early adopters the middle finger.

They could've chosen for example season pass (which requires DS2).

There was no need to choose single, but not require tons of different DLCs to handle it via steam automatically. There's already two different franchise packs too, cd-key and steam store versions.

They could've also handle it itself, by opening page to redeem a code if you own game + all dlc.

Point is: If they really wanted to give it free as they say, they could've.

Pretty much, everyone who is upset about it is because of this.
If there was no free to begin with there wouldn't even be a fuss. But to give your "fans" who supported from the get go a 80% off voucher and those who bought it later at a hugely reduced price it for free is kind of wrong if you ask me.

Yeah, I even pre-ordered DS2. I'm glad those of us who paid $60 for this buggy mess at launch get second rate treatment over people who apparently got it from a freaking Humble Bundle.

I was going to give this game a second shot, oh well. Oh, and they're welcome for all of the DLC I purchased individually for it, glad Humble Bundlers get that for free as well.

edit: Oh, and from THQ's own online store, no less.

I wasn't expecting any discount so 80% is pretty cool. That said, I found Darksiders 2 to be worse than the first one so I'm not that eager to buy the new edition and start a new playthrough.

Yup. They only made mistake of making their 'loyalty' program screw most loyal users. 80% alone would've been good discount for owning game + DLC.

Other group they screwed is Amazon buyers, who gave separate codes.

Gotta love being a second class citizen because we bought it on Steam instead of GOG.

I agree 100%. It's the reward some people for buying it late while during a Steam sale but screw anyone who purchased it prior to that program.

I think the Amazon users got separate codes because some of the stuff didn't exist or wasn't covered by the Season Pass.
This is why most purchasers from Amazon seem to be lacking the soundtrack (which would be another poor "loyalty" move, if used as a differentiator between who gets a free upgrade and who doesn't).

Lol, loyalty program my ass.
People who supported the franchise and bought the games and dlc early on individually before a franchise pack even existed are not tier 1..

iirc. Amazon users got separate codes because users had complained about multi-game codes and games going to waste.
Season pass doesn't cotain all DLC, it misses weapon DLCs, but Amazon could've given single codes everyone else uses.

This is also why Amazon purchasers never got free soundtrack for Darksiders 2. (I believe they never replied to queries about it).
