I thought there were some games that had slightly more stable framerates on the XBO and the CPU was suggested as the reason?
Clearly the GPU isn't a bottleneck for either version of the game, so if it is performing worse on the PS4, I can't imagine what the reason would be other than the CPU.

And again this is just assuming it's not a bug that Bethesda can't just fix. Because it's not like it looks like there is particularly anything intensive going on in the scene.

The reason is Bethesda.

In my opinion, this is yet another example of Microsoft paying off the publishers to provide inferior experiences on PlayStation consoles. The Xbox has sold poorly, and it quickly becoming irrelevant, so Microsoft are resorting to cheap tactics such as having PlayStation versions deliberately gimped in order to stay relevant in the eyes of consumers. Assassin's Creed Unity, The Witcher 3, and Resident Evil Revelations 2 are examples of this awful practice. I'm sure when you play this game on the Xbox One All In One Entertainment System, this game will be 1080p at a locked 30FPS, with mods available from the get go.
Is this kind of blatant flamebait seriously allowed around here now?

On a serious note, it's rather disappointing that Bethesda couldn't manage stable performance with the visual fidelity that they are aiming for. That aside, I've been seeing people tweet screenshots and videos of the bugs in this game. I've only played some Skyrim, but it boggles my mind how people are willing to bend over and accept a troubled product. The defense force in here is a it embarrassing. It's your damn $60; have some respect for yourself and your money.

This week is going to be incredible for me as a fan. I'll no doubt get lost in this game putting in countless hours despite and fps issues there may be. Well worth the $60 to me. How about you just let people decide what they want to do with their money instead of passing judgements on them?

Here's an hour of HD gameplay footage from the PS4 version...not linking this in case Bethesda ninjas are watching. Quote to reveal.

Looks solid to me.

edit: not seeing any hitching like the OPs vids so far.

What evidence is there that the PS4 version is the one to get? Like I said, he wants it day one so we're not waiting for DF.

It's not like a lot of people have both consoles, so this is less about which to buy and more about Xbox owners trying to score a win. Just go back to the Witcher thread to seem more if the same. More console war crap.

So much hyperbole and confirmation bias for little videos from random sources. If anyone really has the choice, then wait for real analysis from trusted sources and also wait for post release and post patch.

If this is another case of dubious optimization of a MS marketed game version on the PS4, then that's pathetic.

I have a video of a youtube user of 56 minutes of gameplay footage from the PS4 version. Watching chunks of the video. It's running fine. Don't know if I should post it though. Don't want the guy to get his stuff taken down.

Didn't Pete Hines say Fallout 4 was "basically done" back in July?
So they've had almost 5 months to make the game run as smooth as possible, and they still release it in this state.
Really wish I hadn't pre-ordered it.

I have both consoles and don't give a shit about childish console wars.

I think this is down to the way the engine works with the consoles architecture. Bethesda are much more useful with the Xbox platform than the Playstation platform.

This was expected, I doubt it will be anything like Skyrim on PS3 though.
People need to stop saying this. The PS3 and PS4 architectures are completely different.

If that simple indoor scenario is taxing the CPU in huge amounts then I don't even want to know how that game is programmed.

Well. They started developing F4 by porting Skyrim internally to Xbox One. If the X1 version is really better than the PS4 version, it's probably because they have more experience with developing for X1. Saying they made it deliberately worse on PS4 because of marketing or money is nuts and I doubt the difference is staggering. I played the X1 version for 4 hours now and also encountered some fps drops but they were not that severe as in OPs video. That being said, that video only shows one certain area which may be affected and also only one certain spot within that area. The other parts of the video looked as smooth as the x1 version.

If I took that attitude I wouldn't play rpgs or a very small amount. I mean out of the 4 retail rpgs I've played this year only 1 ( divinity os)meets your criteria of play. The other 3 (Bloodbourne, The Witcher 3, and Wasteland 2) don't.

Yup. More people need to see this. Lots of footage at an extended time. But I feel this video and post will largely go ignored.

People seem to be misunderstanding me.
I originally said
His game could be bugged causing performance issues (which doesn't seem that unlikely in a Bethesda game), his PS4 could be dying, or there could indeed be a large gulf in framerate between the two versions.
I consider the first two far more likely than the 3rd.
I don't expect a 30fps to 15fps difference to be because of a slight difference in CPU clock speed.

Oh my god why do you care so much that he's getting the XBO version

Well, in fairness... you're the one that felt the need to inform the rest of the thread about your roommate's purchasing decisions in the thread. If you didn't want a discussion about it, why post it?

Got any leftovers?

They're like a dime at the store bro!

Seriously though, I like to make pasta out of it. Take two of them, drain the water, add some milk, butter, chicken powder and a slice or two of cheese. Yummy. It's a struggle meal done right! Might even eat it for the wasteland.

Aren't theories of purposefully sabotaged games "console war crap"?

I suppose, but there is circumstantial evidence for a pattern. It is only a hypothesis, but its stronger than claiming everything is coincidence.

I have discussed it, but when the discussions veer towards whether circumstantial evidence is better than no evidence at all my eyes glaze over a bit.

Yea. I've taken the noodles and have done different things with them before. You could make a ramen burger by frying them from the square package. They have ramen burgers here in NYC. lol

I have to say, I do enjoy the gameplay I am seeing, despite the dips, subpar visuals, and long loading times.

I'm not suggesting that they deliberately did it at all. It's Bethesda, they stink at programming for Playstation, it's well documented. It's incompetance and lack of time rather than something more sinister.

Game embargoes so close to release should have every website up in arms. Yet you don't see IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer, Kotaku, Destructoid and the others complaining even if this is delibarate in order to sell more games to an uninformed public. I think I'm gonna throw up. This industry is a real joke thanks to its young and gullible buyers. But also thanks to reviewers with no backbone that basically bend over and take it deep just for a chance to play the new hot shit before others. I can't believe it really, and it's been going on for YEARS. Who will stop the bleeding? CAN it even stop?
