EDIT: might not be dead after all

After almost five months, a treasure trove of info and assets has finally been found for the cancelled Jurassic World game. Looks like the title would have been a digital download only title for Steam, PSN, and XBL. It would have utilized UE4. There's a lot more information at the link worth checking out. It's sad to see that this was cancelled but it sounds like Universal is still interested in getting a Jurassic World game out there. So hopefully we see something soon.

More Information can be found here
Back in June a rumor surfaced that Cryptic Studios Seattle would be closing, and that they were working on an open-world Jurassic World video game. Unfortunately, it was confirmed shortly after that the studio had shut down. While the Jurassic game evidence was always fleeting, there was enough to logically conclude that the rumor was true.

The original information, which came from Reddit, described the game as such:

‘I got to see some screenshots of Cryptic Studio's newest game, which was based on Jurassic World. It was a 3rd person game where the player controlled Chris Pratt's character. Several dinosaurs from the series were going to be in it including: Gallimimus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Spinosaurus and Baryonyx.

Not quite sure what you would have done in the game other than it being described as being similar to 'H1Z1.' Early Access on Steam would have come out soon but that's all the info I know.’

Isn't H1Z1 a big multiplayer game? It says there that players would control Chris Pratt, so I guess it wouldn't be multiplayer in which case why compare it to H1Z1?

They could easily just throw out some faceless soldiers like the ones who get destroyed by the I-Rex in the movie to make up for it if they did want to go with MP.

That comment is from the one outsider who was able to see it.
More then likely just brought up H1Z1 as it was the first game that came to mind. Going by the video it looked it would have been a sandbox game of some sort. If we can ever get more details from some of the people who worked on it. We could find out how it was really going to play.

Yeah I guess that works. Maybe have your character always be Chris Pratt from your point of view and have everyone else be generic goons.

I'm warming up to the idea of thousands of Chris Pratt clones running around the island though.

The studios under cryptic were hit with layoffs.

Since we only have the word of one person who was able to see it, would be interesting if the people who worked on it could shed some light.
I imagine it was a sandbox affair. But to what extent is the real question.

they'd have to pay staff to finish it, then publish it and pay staff for post launch support.
Damn that sucks. Theres still no real jurrasic park games since snes/genesis

It should be the easiest thing in the world to make a Jurassic Park game. Seriously. Plane crash on one of the islands, fight to survive while awaiting rescue. Boom. Done. Would be immersive and amazing and epic running from a T-Rex in the wild or going Camo and watching a herd of dinosaurs doing there thing or whatever.

But nope. Always has to be some bs

Could even make it Co-Op survival

My ideal Jurassic park game would be something like operation Genesis + the lost world light gun game

You have to build a park then fight your way out once it breaks

lol that's basically what Trespasser was. Though it got rushed out and failed because of it.

Ugh, this was the most painful thing ever discovering and writing all this. I was geeking out, and then continuously remembering it was cancelled. WHYY DAMMIT.

It kills me that it was apparently about to be announced with a Steam Early Access the same month the studio went under. We came sooo close. I wonder if Universal can salvage this project - god knows there's a market for it.

I can't get over how great the art for this game was. The renders are fantastic, and the animations are really nice as well. That video isn't even half of it, you all should check out Nates site.. he has interactive 3D models with animations on each dino render page. My computer is chugging on them, otherwise I'd make some gifs.

Argh, it just all looks so cool.

an open world MP survival game with dinosaurs instead of zombies would be grand.

Isn't that Ark game that's all the rage on Steam pretty much that?

edit: looking at the trailers, it might have a bit more of a fantastical slant

Yea, I think so. Dinosaurs can be used as mounts too as far as I understand.

Last time I saw H1Z1 it didn't look like you did much in it, so I'm sure they could've released this either way and get away with it ;P

Cross posting from another thread, but:

Uh, get the guys who designed the creatures for that cancelled game to work on the next Jurassic film because those are so much better than the creature designs in the actual movie. Spot on to the original aesthetic. The raptor in particular looks superbly on point in comparison to World's flabby faced iguanas. That pteranodon is possibly the second best design the series has had of the creature (most inconsistent creature in the series?), and that Baryonyx is just plain fun looking.

Jeez.

I love the dinosaurs. I would probably not have liked the game because I don't like those modern survival games that are all about micro management. Those reptiles are a marvel to look at though.

Models and anim cycles doesn't really give a good indication of how finished it was.

I'm guessing development was slow and failing to release close enough to the movie was what lead to the cancellation.

Alien isolation but with roaming dinosaurs?
