Don't blame the guy for resigning. Who would want to teach there?

Meanwhile you have a student body president blatantly lying and trying to start violence and faculty assaulting a photographer with practically no consequences.

But MU students got that nearly unanimously lauded nutritional professor! They got him good!

Where's this from?

can someone explain to me what all has happened over there? so far ive seen stuff ranging from the kkk was there to people planning on shooting up the school. ive also heard there was no proof the kkk was there and they arrested 1 guy who posted something about shooting up the school. is it a case of people freaking out? i keep seeing stuff on twitter about all the students getting death threats

Does he attend that college?

I (eventually) found a screen cap of a typed-up draft.

Also, the structure of the message seems just a bit off

Either way, this Twitter is a mess. How did you find it?

DIRECT LINK FROM HIS TWITTER

It's legitimate.

Also - confirmed via multiple sources

https://twitter.com/TJMoe28/status/664556378132889600

The twitter account of a former Mizzou player who had the professor.

EDIT: Confirmed that the professor is resigning

Why are they all sender-side screen caps

...dude?

They are sender side screencaps because the sender is the one who posted it to his twitter account as a message to the mizzou professor.

I even linked you the direct tweet from the person.

Here it is again: From the person who sent the tweet with the email in draft, and has a link to the vine acct (with the 180+k followers on vine).

https://twitter.com/itsWTFVON/status/664504201897201664

He doesn't want to send it because then it would be a terroristic threat. So instead he just took a screenshot and posted it to his twitter and tagged the Mizzou account, threatening to send it if he didn't resign.

Pretty much the only threat was from a student at a different school over 100 miles away made on yikyak. The guy had no guns and seems to be a racist loser who thought it was real funny.

But far more important and way more damaging was the student president, who actually is of importance and in a position of trust, fabricated lies about the KKK and National Guard. He apologized but only after every one had already freaked out and panicked.

So you're saying the people running this movement aren't very smart.

I mean...you're afraid of being misrepresented in the press...so you go ahead and make enemies with the press, the very people who will craft your image to the mass public? Ok.

I guess if the public's opinion doesn't matter it makes sense though.
Ridiculous - and the way you're framing the argument is extremely telling.

If all it takes for the media to switch into "enemy" mode - as if that should even be a thing, btw - is the refusal of access to people who don't want to talk to the media, then they were never onside in the first place. Considering that the Mizzou school of journalism is renowned throughout the country, yet the story that was sitting on their own doorstep was ignored by said bastion of journalistic integrity until the football team said, "nope", why would anyone believe that the media would actually care about getting the story right?

This nonsense is cut from the same cloth as those people who whine about protestors messing up their traffic, rallies, whatever the case may be to draw attention to systematic oppression and murder. "Well, if they'd protest the right way, I'd support them but they insist on messing with my good times so to hell with their dead kids"

Fuck you. You were never onside in the first place. Disingenuous motherfuckers.

The profs original email was disheartening. Misguided and lacking tact. But the response from that student is fucking embarassing. That is not how you talk to people. It is literally disgusting to talk to someone like a sub human piece of trash because they made an error.

Professor had seemingly already resigned before this weirdo posted anything.

Ahh no worries. I thought it was a hoax for a while. That said...he (the dude on twitter) should probably get arrested for making a threat.

This is confusing. So can someone condense what happened to me because I am confused. For reference its good none of the students in his class sent that kind of vile shit then :)

Basically, some fairly popular vine LGBT+ activist / racial equality activist wrote that email and posted that draft on his twitter page and tagged Mizzou, and has basically been tripling down and is proud of himself for writing that.

That "activist" is a vile piece of shit. I don't blame the professor for snapping, if that's how the sequence played out.

Mizzou reportedly isn't accepting his resignation.

As for coverage - Bish - there was actually a lot of coverage of the initial hunger strike from the Maneater (the school newspaper), and it was being covered by the Missourian (Columbia's local paper) and the KC Star (main paper for Kansas City) before the football players got involved.

Maneater coverage: http://www.themaneater.com/search/?query=hunger+strike&searchtype=content
KC Star Coverage: http://www.kansascity.com/news/government-politics/article43334286.html
MIssourian: http://www.columbiamissourian.com/n...cle_35ab864a-8186-11e5-902b-6f136a45260b.html

After the football team got involved and before the stuff with the photographer - it was the front page headline of ESPN.com as well as was dominating college football talk on ESPN until Monday when the president of the school resigned. It..it was a really big freaking deal in the media. The only reason it died down even a little was that the president resigned so fast.

I don't think it is fair or even factual to say that it wasn't getting coverage from local media as well as major media in the area.

"The media" isn't a hivemind and even if every word you wrote was true it's still not in any stretch of the imagination acceptable to assault someone, particularly a member of the press in the act of doing his job.

Barf. Hopefully everyone unfollows him and he fades into obscurity. Such filth.

It doesn't seem to be.

It seems he resigned prior to this weird mess.

Who on our campus was ignoring the issue? It was the talk of the campus from the minute Butler started his strike. I can't speak for the local TV news channels since I don't watch them but I know others were covering. Our student newspaper (Maneater) covered it as well as the two local newspapers (Tribune and Missourian).

What the hell does that mean?

That's not why he was assassinated. The only thing that's clear is that he fell out with the NOI presumably over the scandals surrounding the organization. It's unclear if they were responsible for his assassination.

He was assassinated by members of the Nation of Islam, after he'd had a falling out with the organization, after a conversion to mainstream Islam that saw him significantly soften his stance re: black militancy, a stance he detailed very well in his incredible autobiography. Whether this was a plan thought up by Farrakhan himself, or simply a rogue faction trying to curry favor, it requires some mental gymnastics to suggest that it was anything other than X's betrayal - either in the straightforward sense, or in the sense of putting himself in an outsider position to reveal secrets of the organization - that led to his death.

As I understand it:

1)Threats were made against school (credible or not they were made)

2) Some students don't want to potentially risk their lives, email professor about exam and express their fears

3) Tone deaf Professor responds by basically saying that being afraid for your lives is letting the bullies win (as if death threats, whose credibility was unknown at the time should ever be so easily dismissed as simple "bullying")

4) E-mail gets leaked because it's 2015, Students also respond to e-mail expressing their discomfort with what he said

5) Professor resigns

6) Weirdo twitter guy who is in Texas posts screencaps of an extremely revolting e-mail he probably didn't actually send, and claims he got the professor to resign even though he'd already resigned by the time this guy posted his stuff.

7) People assumed guy was a student and potentially the reason the professor resigned because they didn't bother to read any of the actual sources.

So let me get this straight with this professor, this is all very confusing.

- Professor is holding a test.

- Students email teacher about unsubstantiated threats(what kind of threats were these exactly?).

- Teacher makes an arguably poor rationalization to continue holding the exam.

- Students get really upset and try and and shame him.

- Teacher doubles down.

- More shaming.

- Teacher resigns.

- University doesn't accept resignation.

As an aside some jackass on twitter types up a vile letter trying to piggy back onto the incident and trying to claim responsibility for the resignation when in fact he had nothing to do with it?

What emails have been confirmed to be real and pertinent to this transgression? The early screen cap posted seemingly conveyed a dickish response from both the student(Ben) and the teacher. However the other email shows a more nuanced rationale from the teacher that doesnt come off as demeaning but just hubristic.

Oh I'd say telling students, who are justifiably afraid of potential death threats, that they "letting the bullies win is 100% demeaning.

Death threats aren't "bullying"

Yeah, teacher's email was straight up crazy, especially in a climate where mass shootings are repeatedly happening all over the country.

Mass shooters aren't trying to change anyone's behavior - they're trying to kill you. Being in the way of their bullets lets them win.

It's a flawed argument for sure. Intentionally demeaning though? Not so sure. That would require establishing his intent.

The recipients may have interpreted as such but reading the longer snippets from the email in the Washington Post piece it doesnt come off as intentionally demeaning. He clearly is trying to make an argument of empowerment, in a hollywood movie trope sense, as flawed and misguided as that may be. He also said that there will be a make up exam for those that don't come.

Now if that screen cap email is legit things change a bit.

Just to elaborate here's more info:

As members of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus met with student activists at a closed meeting Monday morning, an anonymous caller phoned in a threat to MU’s Oldham Black Culture Center.

“There was a call made to the Black Culture Center today a little before noon,” MU Police Maj. Brian Weimer told the Columbia Missourian. “It was perceived as threatening, and we’re looking into it.”

As the day progressed, however, the threats turned to social media. Although their source and credibility were questionable, their ugliness was not, and they stoked fears of a school shooting and drove students — particularly minorities — from campus dorms.

“I’m going to stand my ground tomorrow and shoot every black person I see,” read one post on the anonymous message app Yik Yak.

“Some of you are alright,” began another post. “Don’t go to campus tomorrow.”

“We’re waiting for you at the parking lots,” read a third anonymous post. “We will kill you.”

On Wednesday morning, campus police said an arrest had been made.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-students-to-defeat-bullies-and-attend-class/

And the last line of the e-mail literally created a moral high ground:

“I know which side I am on,” Brigham said in the e-mail. “You make your own choice.”

This asks Black Students to make a choice he doesn't have to make. His life wasn't threatened theirs were. "You make your own choice" that 100% demeaning. Dude created some fucked up moral high ground for himself where he's some sort of fighter for justice and the black students who want to err on the side of caution are on the side of "letting bullies win"

Fuck that professor.

Yeah, that's the part that's unclear. Whether or not the organization literally assassinated him or if some members acting on their own accord did. But were derailing. mah bad

Can his message be interpreted as demeaning? Absolutely. Is his intention with his argument to be demeaning? I don't think so. It's a poor argument to be sure. One with some evident flaws.

One that is tone deaf to a number of concerns as you put it.

However based on the Washington Post snippets the guys words seem to be meant to be motivational and empowering. It's misguided but I don't see any intention to demean. The demeaning comes from his failure to understand critical context and circumstance and refusal to acknowledge the flaws to his argument.

Now if that screenshot from earlier that is essentially calling people that don't come cowards, that changes things a good bit.
