Star Wars Battlefront |OT| Here's Where The Fun Begins

I'm in the UK so this might not be much use, but it was ~£52 iirc for the ultimate version.

I didn't have any fps issues with the beta but this is always good news. Am I going crazy or did I read somewhere that you can remove and add items from the UI?

Damn... that might be too good of a deal to pass up. You've never had any region issues?

I've spent 5 hours in game.

Some feedback:

- It looks fantastic. I played the beta on PC in Ultra - on Xbox One on my 50" TV it still looks great. Endor looks really good, especially at night and in the rain.

- Very smooth fps was, much improved from beta. This must be a later build, even in 40 player Walker at the end of matches it's still smooth now.

- They've listened to beta feedback. Your partner is now highlighted on the HUD. The HUD UI is about 30% smaller. The Walkers move slower in Walker Assault - the win/lose ratio is about 50% now in my games so far.

- it's a very very casual game good in short bursts. In 5 hours I've already unlocked most of the key items. I think the Battlefield crowd will quickly move back to BF4, but casuals will carry it.

Im so relieved to hear that they made the HUD smaller :) What about spawn points?

Damn it, this was my worry from the beta. Felt like the game was pretty barebones on progression/unlocks.

What's the best place for preorders these days in the UK? In terms of early delivery / reliability? Thinking of biting the bullet but going to get a physical copy in case I don't get on with it. PS4 so cannot jump into early access

Being casual doesn't bother me at all, I'm getting a bit bored of the hardcore stuff, it should be about having fun first and foremost, right?

I'm tempted to get it, but I have Black Ops and Fallout 4. Do I really need abother game?

Star Wars Battlefront [OT] We prefer a straight fight to all this sneaking around!

Great thread, OP. Really looking forward to this game.

Good. For once a MP shooter is not plagued by 1000 guns and unlocks.

Either do it properly or don't do it at all in my opinion. If a game has unlocks and progression but it's barebones then all it does is make the game feel dull much quicker. I'm sure there's some human psychology reasoning behind that.

Yep, there's no unlocks on guns at all. No scopes, attachments etc. There's also no prone, reloading (other than overheat minigame), sniping etc. It's pick up and play, almost. Very 90s. Refreshing.

I'm concerned about the word "casual" being thrown around. I think it's going to scare some people off. To me it played like a fun team based arena shooter, albeit on big maps with cool game modes.

I'm intentionally leaving out vehicles since their controls are quite blatantly simplified when I ask this - but what specifically makes a shooter casual for people? Is it solely the lack of weapon addons? The fact that hipfire is as accurate as ADS? Were Quake and UT games considered casual at the time?

You can still get headshots, it's just that you can get them as easily while using a jump pack. I enjoy the battlefield series but the majority of unlocks were of no interest to me, just a digital carrot on a stick.

The only true remaining disappointment for me is the lack of a server browser on pc.

Damn... that might be too good of a deal to pass up. You've never had any region issues?

My pc games collection is 99% on steam I'm afraid, this is my first purchase from mexican origin - other folks in here mentioned they've had zero issues with purchasing from mexican origin though. All I can say for sure at this point is that the purchase went through, it shows up in my origin library and I got a confirmation email that I'm being charged today :)

And Graphics

The prettiest MP game I've ever played.

So much...so much attention to detail.

Dirt on endor attaching itself to the white on a stormtrooper.

All the while having that wet sheen from the rain.

Soooo good.

And the vegetation reacts to players running through.^^

My initial hype for this game was crazy. However after playing the beta...im not so sure. Did did enjoy it but am realizing with no weapon customization I cant forsee having that drive to keep playing to level up and get new gear (like COD & Battlefront).

Mmmmm not sure.

I notice in the streams people spend a lot of time unlocking and customizing star cards, their character, weapons etc. between rounds. During this time the match is live, and you hurt your team by not spawning in for a couple minutes. A team can easily grab an early advantage in several match types if the opposing team only has a fraction of their team spawned in.

Drive of a shooter should be the drive to kill enemies and win battles not to unlock a scope for the 12th smg in your arsenal

You never needed damn unlocks in CS and that was great for a decade

Sure different strokes for different folks but there every other shooter out there has so many unlocks the true game doesn't start till like 50 hours in when the playing field is leveled.

Prob a thing for as long as people don't know what everything does and their favorite setup is.

Since I used it: it might scare some people off. That is not my concern, I don't work for EA or DICE.

It is casual, as far as I'm concerned. Some of the audience will have problems with it as there's no scopes or attachments to grind, or layers a la Battlefield, Destiny etc. The Twitch streams today were all people asking if rare loot dropped (??). It's a different generation.

Still, I think Disney, retro and casual can carry it. It's a fun game.

Yeah thats definitely true. Being good and getting kills is the primary reason I play. But getting good for me is about having choices for my play style. Thats why I love COD and Battlefield so much is because thats how it always is. You try out an M16 for a bit. Try a SCAR. You try a bunch of new cool weapons and loadouts to find the one thats your favorite.

Unless I am mistaken, this to me looks absolutely nothing like that. Everyone is using basically the same loadouts with the exception of different grenades or whatever. Like you're "level 1" dude is basically the same as a level 50 dude which isn't super appealing to me.

It's definitely 720p :/

I like how I was able to run around as Vader this morning during breakfast , hacking and slashing dudes while letting the game install, that was fun

Sweet! Just what I was hoping it would be.

I am not that hardcore into shooters like I once was due to time, etc. So this is going to fit the bill perfectly. Thanks for the impressions!!!

Some Endor gameplay. Jup it looks that good. Even with crappy YT compression.

My goodness, the atmosphere in this game. Endor looks perfect!

Tuesday cannot come fast enough!

PC may have mods for longevity?

Can't wait for this. Must wait for this (payday beckons but only 8 days after general release).

Anyway I'm so happy this is a "casual" game. It should be fun right off the bat and not feel like you have a mountain of things to unlock or level up on just to enjoy yourself and not get killed every 5 seconds. That's what killed competitive shooters for me. This is a breath of fresh air. It's the Rocket League model of sorts, just simple down and dirty immediate fun. I had a ton of fun in the Beta just with Hoth. Endor looks incredible. The atmosphere and visuals and fun gameplay are the absolute core of this to me, I'm glad it hasn't been overcomplicated by extra stuff that some complain are missing.

Put me in the camp who likes the simplicity and "casual" nature of the game. It's refreshing to see and will be a perfect game to hop on when I'm not playing competitive Halo with my friends.

Endor gameplay posted above looks insanely good.

Just to clarify, I wasn't having a go or anything :) lots of people seem to be throwing it around. Out of interest, what exactly do you mean regarding layers here?

Casual isn't a dirty word to me, but the majority of people throwing it around (not yourself) don't seem to attempt to explain their phrasing. I could definitely understand battlefront getting called casual if there were no headshots or something. However all the people I see using casual as a negative adjective seem to simply want weapon attachments. I really am of the opinion that around 60% of the weapons and attachments in the battlefield series never get used!

I've not played much CS:GO but iirc it's considered one of the most (if not the most) hardcore fps currently around, and it doesn't have weapon attachments (at least for most weapons) either afaik?

I guess casual is just a buzzword for some people. This definitely is a different generation from games like quake and UT but I've missed games like that. Personally I prefer the term "arcadey" to "casual" in this instance, I was just wondering what everyone elses opinions are on all this.

Unless I am mistaken, this to me looks absolutely nothing like that. Everyone is using basically the same loadouts with the exception of different grenades or whatever. Like you're "level 1" dude is basically the same as a level 50 dude which isn't super appealing to me.

You can have 3 different items in your hand, as well as a perk (or whatever they call them) and your chosen blaster. You unlock all of these items, as well as customisation, by levelling up. So a level 50 dude would have access to way more cards for their hand, blasters, and perks than a level 1 dude. The loadouts you can't change are vehicles, or as heroes.

Holy shit at those Endor visuals. I would have legit not believed anyone who told me that a game could look like that on consoles and be 60fps before seeing it for myself. And the sound effects. *Drool*

Can you imagine showing this to a Star Wars fan back in the day and telling them that it was a videogame?

What a time to be alive.

Yep. I got in on the PC Alpha, and even back then I was making sure friends knew what they were getting into, as it is a very casual shooter. It was kind of funny reading so many comments from people that were absolutely sure that it was Battlefield with a SW skin, and that couldn't have been further from the truth.

The casual nature of it is going to put some people off, but there are plenty of games for those folks. For the rest of us that just want to hop in and have some fun for a few minutes at a time, this is going to be amazing. It's smart of EA too, as it shouldn't really eat into Battlefield salesborbplayer base much. I could also see the game having a younger audience when all is said and done, which could be one of the reasons to not have a public voice chat channel.
