Microsofts UK PR department is pretty clever.

I'm sick of the AAA fixation on open world games. I bought 3 nights in Florence (including the season pass for flights and a 4-star hotel) and there was nothing to do except wander around.

There's no accompanying ad on the previous right side page? (Or the one after?)

I can go to Florence with the Xbone? Cool!

That's pretty clever. Would welcome a return to the aggressive marketing ads from the earlier era of gaming.

Not able to tell straight out that x game is out on your platform is one of the weirdest marketing deals imo. I guess it works(?), but it's so fuckin awkward.

Clever. Hopefully such strategies will make them rethink such stupid exclusivities. Making deals to get exclusive content/features is ok (although I'd prefer they didn't), but forbidding companies from advertising a product available on their platform is silly.

i mean, it is pretty clever.

Whether or not buying 1 page of ad space filling it with nothing than "ON XBOX ONE" is a great value, i dare not judge.

The review says it's available for XBO, advertise Tomb Raider.

this. at least use one third of that page to advertise "along other franchises, like Tomb Raider and Halo"

If MS put this much effort into proper marketing two years ago they wouldn't have to do this sort of stuff today.

You know MS were pretty much kings of marketing exclusivity last gen, right?

It's been really interesting to see how Microsoft reacts when their own favorite tactics are used against them.

It certainly hilarious, but not in a good way.

Flawless victoly.

Though it does imply that they had control over the page layout of the review itself and where it was in the paper, which doesn't sit well with me.
Selling ads to sit within or next to a specific feature is nothing new, but yeah, offering the exact specifics of the page layout is a bit of a loss of integrity on Metro's editorial side.

Could be worse, at least it's not advertorial pretending to be a review.

I don't know if MS have a deal with GAME or not, but in my local shop all the Xbox stock is right at the front, especially with all the Fallout 4 or Star Wars Battlefront logos/advertising.

Pretty clever but don't think anything will be better than destiny fragrance in the sneaky department.

Best newspaper ad will not be topped by anyone with sonys page 3 the sun ad. That was amazing.

Or maybe they are trying to push slower selling stock?

Lol, not bad. But I sincerely doubt most people flipping through that newspaper would get what it's all about. You'd have to know about the marketing deal to really understand it. Others would be like "ok, what's on Xbox One now?? No idea...flips the page" It's not like people spend more than ten seconds on an ad.

Yes, and it doesn't change my opinion on those tactics. Notice how my statement didn't point at a specific company. Exclusivity on advertising is stupid. And misleading.

I'd be very surprised if the merchandising wasn't specifically arranged with deals with MS and Sony at the moment. The UK market is a scrap worth pouring cash into for both of them right now.

Poor Tomb Raider. MS would rather hope you make link between Battlefront and their ad than mention Tomb Raider.

It is clever but it's also the kind of ad that almost never works in the sense of making a difference.

Sales will be what they would have been regardless IMHO.

And honestly they couldn't say available alongside TR and H5?

I wonder if they simply took page knowing BF would be reviews there or if Metro offered up page for higher cost noting BF review was adjacent?

Lol, clever.

You assume the average reader knows it is in relation to the reviewed game.

Desperate is the more apt description.

Everyone I have just shown it too in the office saw it instantly, even the one's that have no interest in gaming. It's deffo noticeable
