Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Comes to PC This January

So can you eventually be everything or is your class locked in place? Like, if I wanted to switch from a magic user to a pure fighter, would I need to respec somehow, create an alt or just start putting points (or whatever) into fighter skills?

You can change your Vocation at any point in the game by visiting the Inn at Gran Soren.

As Kyofu mentioned, you can change class at any point. The game does have a system where your character's base stats increase each time you level up based on your current class, so in theory, there's an element of min/maxing there. But trying to make sure you always increase specific stats only makes a minor difference, so I don't think it's something you'd ever need to care about. Just play as the classes you wanna play as.

You can be any class you want once you reach the main city (which isn't long) and have enough Vocation points (one time purchase). You can change at anytime.

But when you level up, stat values differ depending on class. Example: As a Sorcerer you level up your magic attack by 5, whereas with Warrior that levels up by 1 while reg. attack goes by 5.

So yeah, if you go about your entire time with a Magic class then want to switch up to a pure melee late when your like 107, it might be best to create a new file. There's no respec option.

Edit: yeah to add to that, it adds a level of min/max for certain classes but you certainly wont feel the need for it unless your trying to break records or something.

Thanks for the information!

I usually go for mage classes even though games with legit powerful magic users + satisfying mechanics are hard to find. Looks like DD might get it right!

If you can put a little money on the side each month and you can get a pretty decent one for around 700-800 dollars, minus OS and monitor obv.

I would probably game a lot more if I just bought a PC. Going to start saving up; how long does a medium-range one usually last for?

Yeah the min maxing is really annoying, and it's also really pointless because there isn't really a need for it. But technically if you play say a magick archer, you want to do like 140level on sorcerer and 60level on fighter or whichever it was that had the hp, or something like that, then use consumables for stamina. If you stay a magick archer the entire time, you'll have quite a bit less intelligence(though that's like 10% less damage at max lvl iirc) and more stamina. It's not really a large difference, and hybrid vocations get good enough stats in everything to be able to switch to anything after so that's nice.

You are in for a treat
It's such a great experience to not feel like a glass canon

Pretty long, the only thing you'd really need to change would be the GPU and you can always sell your old one to recoup costs. By the time you save up the new series will also be out which should preform really well.

So what I gather is that the combat is like Souls, but not at all like Souls, and like MH, but completely different from MH.

I see.
Well I, for one, didn't mean to say that it's like Souls or "comparable" (beyond just superficial aspects e.g. third-person real-time hack-and-slash action-RPG combat), only that I still think that Souls combat is overall better, for various reasons (I can elaborate if anyone cares).

But it's true that they're not really similar. It's actually a bit more similar to MH, but even MH has strangely more in common with Souls combat than Dragon's Dogma, I'd say.

Also, for PC gamers, I have no idea if controller support is gonna be all that great, but regardless I'd recommend using a controller. It's really made with a controller in mind I think.

In addition to KB+M, the game will have both XInput and DirectInput support right out of the box.

About mods, the one I'm expecting the most is PS button prompts :p

I always appreciate when they're made. It's not super important, but it's great.

Ditto! Fuck the 360 controller, DS3/DS4 for life -)

It's a fine controller really, my brain is just used to PS buttons and layouts lol

The funny thing is that I've been gaming almost exclusively on PC for years, but I grew up on Playstation systems, so now I'm actually confused when I see playstation button prompts in PC games because I've kind of subconsciously assigned the dualshock buttons to xbox buttons, lol. X in particular messes me up something fierce these days.

Can I seamlessly change between a controller and KB+M? So I can play with a controller but change to KB+M when I want to snipe something with a bow?

Short answer is 'yes.'
Game accepts input from both device types simultaneously. A hybrid device such as the Steam Controller also works where the right track pad can be configured in mouse-look/trackball mode.

We'll have more info to share in the early part of December. ;-)

Nice! I already planned to buy this day one, even if it wasn't possible, but I guess this just reconfirms it ;)

I min/maxed an assassin and destroyed everything. When I played the expansion I got rocked as the expansion levels the enemies to your level :(

Will go with magic archer next.

I just need to know will I be able to do 4K/60FPS fine or 1440/144fps. Sometimes I want to play on my TV and sometimes on my monitor!

The only tip you need when starting Dragon's Dogma:

1. Buy a ton of empty flasks for every group member.

2. Go to nearby spring and fill those flasks up with water.

Now enjoy healing through any damage you receive.

i was thinking about releasing a video gameplay where i show how to level up on bitterblack and get some good gear even before going to gran soren.
Oh my god i can't wait to play this again and again and again.

Edit: oh and my avatar will finally be in hd :D

so glad i waited, this looks incredible.

i missed everything completely, so seeing dudes light themselves on fire then jumping on beasts is getting me kinda hype

I once travelled 1,5 hours through the land to reach a quest point. As a newb I didn't really know how to reach the proper way probably so I I fought and sneaked through. I'll never forget how intense, adventurous and suspenseful the long walk was. Sometimes fighting small mobs, somestimes accidently alerting bigger goblin mobs because the damn orc ran away and cried for help, sometimes they came with trolls and then my group was fighting like maniacs, using tactical retreat.

Sometimes we used to hug rocks and walls in fear to avoid alerting huge camps of human bandits and marauders in the dark. So much stuff happened along the way with occasional caves to plunder, ambushes and dreadful monsters (that lion beast thingie took me almost 10 minutes) that when I reached the quest spot (where the siege happens) I literally felt huge relief. I never forget that level of immersion.

the loss of my save (I wasn't too far anyway but still had 50 hours on it) and the eyesoring fps made me never pick it up again.

this coming to PC is a game dream come true.

From graphical point pc port looks very rough - lowres textures, lod system, shadows..But 60 fps make it godlike!

To be fair it is a work in progress but I do understand it can look hella rough, especially seeing the textures of the outfits you can wear. If anything modders can have a hand at fixing some textures

From the Official Capcom UK:
no class additions but who knows that modders will get up too? that's going to be exciting

I keep trying to do a playthrough without getting a shit ton (literally, I usually get 100+ of them asap) of spring water flasks, but the temptation is too much every time lmao. They're too damn powerful!
