There's a lot of forced drama in this series, I don't really mind it though because the payoff is nice everytime but it kinda irks me whenever it happens.

Show is still very good in the end, probably the best we've seen here.

Yumico x Brother Jun.... How could you! Poor Sen is going to be the odd one out here. How cute that she put the gloves in the piano for him to find.... Looks like Kaoru might get some requitted love for once..

Thread was kinda empty, huh? Probably that otaku thread backlash :p

Episode 9

Still on Yurika/Jun-niisan arc. I was sure that sex was implied between the two, but I thought wrong. It's kinda cute how Yurika named her cat 'Chet' (from Chet Baker) who plays trumpet like Jun. Meanwhile Kaoru got a surprise xmas present from Ri-chan, which I reckon will pretty much seal the deal (unless he's being an idiot). Regretfully this whole ordeal will left Sen alone with his drumsticks.

Episode 10

Kaoru finally get with Ri-chan, Yurika's "masterpiece" was taken off the school display, and it seems Sen made peace with the whole scandal, as they put it. The Olympus throw down the gauntlet for another match at the school festival, but they haven't got a drummer, this time?

Jun-ni is the best character of this show. That session where he's kinda fighting with Sentarou is probably one of my favourite moments (the performance at the American bar is good as well).

When Sentarou said he'll always remember the session.

;_;

Episode 10

Oh boy, that kissing scene was a rollercoaster of emotions, it's like they ate magnets for lunch that kept reversing their polarity!

Episode 11

^^What KenjiGlove said.

Sen wants to run away because his dad was a drunk. After Kaoru stopped him, (and that age old cliche where the main character got into an accident the night before the super important engagement, and it turns out to be a red herring), he attempted to run away the second time (and succeeded) because of the guilt of hurting his sister. Come on. It's not even him who's at fault since it was the car who was cutting lanes, and his sister didn't even blame him.

This episode was a bit of a mess. I was looking forward to hearing them play at the school festival with Ri-chan. Instead we have Detective Kaoru trying to track where Sen could've gone.

Fuck, wtf, fuck. The first 3/4 of the episode was excellent, I mean, really really good. Then Sen runs off out of guilt? WTF, bro. I was looking forward to the showdown at the festival too. Uugghh.

I can't even, that ending was lame, completely lame fuck me. The anime was really good, but managed to shat itself at the end with all the awkward stuff with Kaoru, who is a douche, Sen taking off to become a priest and Ri-chan, well.. The reunion at the church was ok, then Ri-chan walks up? Really? wtf.. kinda lame. As you can see the ending was pretty frustrating and the anime could have been much better if they actually completed any character stories outside of Junichi and Yurika. Oh well..

What's next guys? Mirai Nikki sounds like a bad idea from everyone. Uggh.

Laaaaaaaame.
This ending was just bad. I didn't like how Sen leaves like that or how Kaoru is massive douche after Sen leaves.
I mean, the church scene was nice but.....I would have liked it better if they just played at the festival, without all the drama at the end.

Overall Impressions
I'm torn on this one. There are some things I really like about this anime. The setting is amazing and you don't see often an anime set in this period. The music was amazing and you'll probably really like this if you're a jazz fan.
But I really disliked some of the love drama and the ending.
In the end, I enjoyed it and I would probably recommend it, but it's the worst of the Watanabe shows i've seen(no, I haven't seen Terror in Resonance :p)

I don't mind Mirai Nikki, even if I expect it to be more of a "so bad it's so good" anime than a legit good show.

It could have been soooo good, but they botched it, bad....

In regards to Mirai Nikki, the problem is that too many people have already seen it, so participation will be a even less the this one.. uugghh.

Maybe Mononoke?

Jeez, I really fell behind on this show. The holidays ironically mean I have too many other things to do. Plus, to be honest, the show didn't really catch my attention in the first two episodes.

Episode 3
I disliked how the conflict in this episode was based solely on people not being able to explain anything.

Episode 4
I didn't expect Sentaro to be part American. That part with the American drunk speaking in English was silly, but I liked the music they were playing. And the romance gets another complication.

Episode 5
It was weird that Kaoru would randomly run into his mother like that.

Episode 6
Next school year already? I'm surprised and a bit disappointed by the stereotypical gay character. It's odd that jazz is being placed against The Beatles.

Episode 7
So, what's wrong with Jun? The music at the end was nice.

Episode 8
So, hair cutting, and I guess Jun has PTSD or something?

Episode 9
I really can't say I care about Jun's story.

Episode 10
Why are colds a death sentence in Japan? And thus starts the mandatory "break up".

Episode 11
Or, I guess they aren't breaking up yet. Instead, we're going the accident route.

Episode 12
And now we have sad graduation stuff. At least things turned out well in the epilogue.

This series ended up being exactly the Newberry Award winner that I expected. It was alright, but I wasn't all that interested in the romance drama or the other story developments. The music performances were great, though.

Episode 12

As everyone here already said, episode 12 was a total dissapointment. Kaoru has no right treating Ri-chan like dirt, although he did apologised at the end. Reunion was alright, all is forgiven between Sen and Kaoru, but 8 years is a long time, and Sen didn't even try to contact Kaoru? I know, life happened and all that, and living in an remote island somewhere couldn't have been easy. :-\ But still, I expected more from them.

Series Impression

I feel that Sakamichi no Apollon works best if it's just two friends doing what they love best, playing jazz, learning about themselves and communicating their values/intentions through music. All the secondary drama with Yurika/Jun can go. Shit, I'll take the friendly rivalry with The Beatles knockoff over them, but shame they didn't expand upon it. I thoroughly enjoyed the time period and of course, the music, but apart from their early interaction, I felt that Sen and Kaoru acted out of their characters much too often towards the end.
I probably won't see myself rewatching it anytime soon. Now, I will still rank White Album 2 higher than Sakamichi no Apollon (since WA2 was the last music/romance I saw)

Next up, Mirai Nikki? Also did someone suggested Shin Sekai Yori? I already seen it, but it was a really good watch (and really grimdark)

That's probably the main problem of the show. It feels like all the drama could be avoided if the characters just talked to each other and didn't simply run away.

Episode 12

The scene after the time-skip was really good, every character got an ending (even Kauro's classmate was working on the train station!) and the part at the church was really touching, especially when Sentarou was standing on the hill and the organ started playing.

The only problem is that the journey towards the ending wasn't something to write home about. Personally I feel like there was more to show in the time they were kids before they could jump in time and show how everyone ended up. It felt a bit sudden.

------------

I agree that the parts where they actually play music is where the show shines, too bad they weren't able to craft an engaging story around it.

In the end it's probably one of the better shows we've had though, if only because of the awesome music sessions.
