What is the significance of a mainline entry with MH? G versions outsell the originals dont they? Its not like they have even been consistent with the series' naming. Btw, I do thinks the numbers are good but in the end it shouldnt be that surprising.

Well this isn't a G and not really a mainline entry either. It's a spinoff, remixing the series, almost.

Man, Splatoon would be number 1 if it weren't for those 2 new releases...and even then just barely got beat for the number 2 spot. Too bad Monster Hunter is what it is and completed crushed the sales charts.

Splatoon needs merchandising. Animated Series, T-Shirts, toy squirt guns...it's just money waiting to be made Nintendo!

Already done!

Though yeah it was a limited release intended as a pre-order bonus. :p

MH4G didn't outsell MH4 in Japan, previous G versions of portable games were released during the time when MH was still in a massive growth phase so they sold a lot better than what would be normal for that sort of release.

Also, who was championing Blade Arcus from Shining EX as a good selling RPG in the other thread (nevermind it's a fighting spin-off of the Shining series)...I was expecting more from that. That's one of those games where the Comgnet pts/actual sales ratio is very high (it happened for Stella Glow as well).
I believe it doesn't have online play. That seriously hurts sales.
Yeah, just looked it up now, it was 10th on Tsutaya's Vita ranking:

http://store-tsutaya.tsite.jp/rank/game.html?r=W144

Below Grand Kingdom and Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires (which also didn't show up). Another bomb, unfortunately.
This isn't just a bomb. If we consider Famitsu numbers, that means it sold less than 3600 copies. That's not a bomb, that's a nuke.
Odd thing is that at least watching videos it seems like the closest spin off to the mainline games.

I guess that not featuring the Lastation/Lowee/Leanbox characters and focusing everything on the Sega console counterparts limited its appeal. I haven't read impressions though.
Yeah, I've been told by a Japanese friend who hangs on games forums there's just no interest due to the cast/lack of cast. Plus SeHa isn't too popular. Monster Hunter week probably didn't help though.
But really, the franchise isn't too healthy. Maybe Dengeki LTD number paint a prettier picture but still.
JiVXgUp.jpg

I think CH might just move on soon. But to what? It's not like their other franchises or new IPs are doing good. Are they?
Heck maybe this isn't even bad considering their asset reuse? That doesn't sound right though.

2015 will be 53 weeks long on MC, so still 5 weeks left, 20m by the end of the year for the 3DS is achievable, altough rather unlikely.

Also on Famitsu using retail + digital Minecraft Vita is at 700k, best selling game on the system by far.

Wii U since the Splatoon Bundle is tracking well ahead of the MK8 Bundle last year. So I'd venture to guess it might end up doing better than December 2014, while Splatoon sales will outperform MK8 Holiday Sales:

Mario Kart 8 - 12.742 (Nov 24 - Nov 30) Splatoon - 23.823 (Nov 23 - Nov 29)
Mario Kart 8 - 19.244 (Dec 01 - Dec 07)
Mario Kart 8 - 24.938 (Dec 08 - Dec 14)
Mario Kart 8 - 34.331 (Dec 15 - Dec 21)
Mario Kart 8 - 38.637 (Dec 22 - Dec 28)
Mario Kart 8 - 28.403 (Dec 29 - Jan 4)

good week all around for Nintendo. kind of surprised to see such a huge bump for 3DS hardware. I guess the New 3DS did its job of getting existing owners to upgrade.

Wut? How is unlikely? If there are 5 weeks left, that's mean an avg of 92k per unit.
That's easy.

and also a drop from Criminal Girls 1 and on par with the remake - seems NI cannot catch a break.

I think Yomawari counts as a break in a series of underperformances from them.

Small drop compared to the previous entry (33k units) - it will sell well during holidays and is almost assured to reach the 100k mark.

87 3DS Aikatsu! Cinderella Lesson 9,019 / 142,603
56 3DS Aikatsu! Futari no My Princess 53,866 / 259,155
105 3DS Aikatsu! 365 Nichi no Idol Days 33,475 / 106,846
NEW 3DS Aikatsu! My No.1 Stage! - 23.957 / ???

Should get past 100k, but looks like series is on the decline after peaking in 2013.

What a surprise, a game which has ALWAYS outsold Mario Kart 8 since week 3 now will beat it again in the nexts weeks rofl.

I am not sure there was a lot to negotiate. MH was going to Nintendo by default considering the success of DS and the increased power of 3DS. Only Sony offering some kind of huuge moneyhat would have prevented that.

Thats probably true.

I think 3G was like....the single Capcom test game where the game met it's target and then some.

Remember how portable 3rd HD was supposed to be a thing ? I wouldn't be surprised if 3G's great sales played a role in Vita not getting a single non-MMO MH.

The timing might be off though.

Edit:

Oh no, Net High :( . I hope we'll still get it. The premise sounded interesting.

I feel the fundamental difference between Monster Hunter X and your standard filler game is that the developers are still people who feel ownership of the franchise and were willing to make large scale changes to the formula in the form of Hunting Style and Hunting Arts.

It makes it more akin to playing Call of Duty from year to year instead of something like Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, where it's not exactly the next entry in the way Black Ops 2 -> Black Ops 3 would be, but you still get a lot of changes that prove compelling for audiences.

I would say that they've been taking the best approach they could in the extreme twilight of the generation. They're notably mixing up the traditional series without setting up the expectations of a numbered title, and then leveraging the brand in titles that should appeal to late generation adopters like younger children (Monster Hunter Stories) and more casual audiences (Monster Hunter Cat Farming).

Disappointed with Net High's lack of sales. Like wtf Japan, it's Dangan Attorney Gurren La Kill, and it sells less than 3600 copies? At least it should do far better in North America, like 999 and VLR did.

Who are all these people interested in Monster Hunter who didn't own a 3DS already...?

It's presumably overwhelmingly people upgrading.

That said, I could also see a variety of middle-schoolers who are now old enough to play the game getting a 3DS.

Well there was a decline coming from Portable 3rd but otherwise it's rather stable indeed. MHX is doing absolutely fine. And I'm just saying that future G version will never match the number Portable 2nd G did because that was seemingly an anomaly due to the series still growing at the time. They still sell incredibly well but I just doubt they'll ever surpass their mainline entry equivalent ever again. (unless we get a similar situation to Tri/3G where the original is released on console and the G version is a handheld game).

Thats probably true.

I think 3G was like....the single Capcom test game where the game met it's target and then some.

Portable 3rd HD port to Vita was never a thing afaik. And Capcom was committed to the 3DS from the get-go with MH since they announced MH4 for it before 3G released.

One thing I noticed about those Shining Arcus from Blade EX sales... and some other PS3/4 crossgen games... is that the PS4 versions seemingly outsell the PS3 ones on average. Could it be that Japanese consumers are finally putting the PS3 to bed and adopting the PS4 as their primary home console?

It was likely that, yeah.
I dont know why Capcom didnt bothered with the PSP game. Not sure if i've seen any mentioning of that from Capcom themself. I guess maybe the previous games didnt sell THAT much, so MHP3rd wasnt a priority for the west.

[PS2] Taiko no Tatsujin: Taiko Drum Master (Namco) {2005.03.17} - 3.203 / NEW <12,5%> [25.604 units shipped]

This game was first released in the US market with songs that appeal to western audiences, the localized Japanese version basically shares the same tracks. I guess this is the reason why it was so poorly received. Expectations were pretty low going by initial shipment data.
That makes sense, thanks.

Wasn't there also some policy that PSP remasters had to be part of a bundle, not standalone? I'm struggling to think of another PSP remaster that didn't come with another game...
I've heard some talk about that as well, but i'm not sure if it was just rumor/speculation or anything to it.

Franchise fatigue on the system most probably. Namco released a lot of those back then.

Anyway, Taiko selling 12k is great, since its better than last year. Hope it has better legs too. It looks retailers learned their lesson from tokumori and ordered a lot less copies. It might sell its shipment this time. Hell, it might even sell better than animal bombing.
That might also be a factor, but the PS2 game went from ~195k to ~16k, so its probably mainly because of the selection of the songs as Bruno mentioned.

Well, it was sure marketed as much as the others. I know its not a G, but G's are practically expansions instead of sequels yet do incredibly well. This is also the impression i get, as MHX seems to be the next big title for the serie. Capcom also expects 2.5 million copies sold within March 2016 (which i believe they had the same for MH4G as well?), so its being seen as a big project. So not that big of a surprise that its selling great, but perhaps some less sales were expected by many, like 1.1m or 1.2m instead for example. Great sales regardless though, it shows how popular the serie is.

The main question for me is whether it would continue boosting Wii U hardware compared to 2014 Holidays.

Since October 2015, Splatoon digital sales were around 18% of total sales.
I expect this ratio to remain flat.
So, i believe we will see 1,280,000 at the end of the year.

1,050,000 retail + 230,000 digital.

25./03. [PS4] Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book # <RPG> (Koei Tecmo) {2015.11.19} (¥7.344) - 4.652 / 32.913 <60-80%> (-84%)

Looks like DarkLordMalik called it last thread.

So PS4 version shipped higher but Vita version sold more. It will definitely sell more in LTD. I don't think it is a bad port on Vita like Yoru No Kuni game.

Jesus Christ, how? Anyone who think they saw this coming are lying lol.
Some saw this coming since a certain time based on the ratio difference with MK8 sales and it's obvious since a long time now that Splatoon is a Nintendo strong long seller and that it would enter the holiday season in full force. With the bundle it became even more a sure thing.

For you.
And for me.
Too bad, we are seriusly the only two guys here who knew this. And this is hilarius.

No.

Net High sales makes me sad, good word of mouth should allow it to avoid bomba bins, but it will struggle to reach 10k, seeing how it looks and play and reading people who are playing it I was somehow hoping we could get a new VN franchise à la Ace Attorney / Zero Escape / Danganronpa with its own twists, but I guess we won't.

Nothing else we didn't see coming in the previous thread otherwise, except the 3DS hardware sales with lots of people upgrading for a New 3DS XL in order to play an improved MHX.

Great week for Nintendo!

- MH sales are insane
- SMM and Splatoon = No stopping this train
- Insane 3DS hardware sales
- Nice little Wii U bump

87 3DS Aikatsu! Cinderella Lesson 9,019 / 142,603
56 3DS Aikatsu! Futari no My Princess 53,866 / 259,155
105 3DS Aikatsu! 365 Nichi no Idol Days 33,475 / 106,846
NEW 3DS Aikatsu! My No.1 Stage! - 23.957 / ???

Should get past 100k, but looks like series is on the decline after peaking in 2013.

great result going from 260k to barely 100k

ah, it's a 3DS game

Futari no My Princess wasn't the norm, though. I think BN is perfectly fine with a 100-140k units franchise, which has legs.

A shame for Net High.

Disappointed with Net High's lack of sales. Like wtf Japan, it's Dangan Attorney Gurren La Kill, and it sells less than 3600 copies? At least it should do far better in North America, like 999 and VLR did.

That's as long as the game is actually good. With Net High's aesthetic, I doubt it will perform significantly better in the West like Zero Escape.

It's presumably overwhelmingly people upgrading.

That said, I could also see a variety of middle-schoolers who are now old enough to play the game getting a 3DS.

I would add, maybe some of those old hunters had finally destroyed their 3DS and now in need for replacement?^_^(I know i do lol.T_T)
