Bloodborne: The Old Hunters |OT| Old Hunters. New Tricks, Bells & Whistles.

So I'm at
Orphan of Kos
and he's AGGRESSIVE AS FUCK~

Any tips?

Edit: Reading some posts in this page, his second phase seems like a nightmare. I'm screwed, aren't I? :C

You've got to stay in on him.

You're probably only going to get one swing off with most weapons before having to dodge again. You might want to use a quicker swing state of whatever weapon you are using, even, because the recovery on some meatier weapons might be too long to get a safe swing.

You're going to eat his jump-back kusari-bullshit ground-raker thing. Yes, it's possible to dodge consistently, but only if you're leaving so much potential damage on the table that it ceases to be worth it holding back swings just to be able to anticipate it. Unless your stats are super weird, it shouldn't be fatal, so whatever. Cost of doing business.

He has a really nasty follow-up charge attack that has a tendency to get hidden by the clouds of smoke he kicks up by the attack it follows from. There's not much of a good tell on it as a result. Assume he's always going to do it if you're too far away from him when he whiffs one of his big vertical swings.

You can't really do much to stop him from just jumping around fanning out grenades like some kind of moronic ninja jackass. My advice is to start playing another game when he goes into it, maybe Pokemon or something, and kind of half-remember to dodge or vial back up now and then until he's done throwing a tantrum and wants to be interactive again.

The big attacks you need to learn are: the Lightning Storm Scream thing (as another poster here clued me in, the beached whale is where the storm starts from, and there's a tiny little gap in the wave of lightning you can run through; yes, they expected you to completely swing your camera away from the boss during the middle of the fight because of your psychic intuition that a whale carcass was sending rolling thunder at you, and PS, make sure you aren't standing anywhere near the goddamn thing during his second phase, ever), the follow-up swings to his sweeping attacks that are pretty specifically designed to catch you trying to get back out of range to heal (probably better to man up and heal right in his face; call him a punk-ass bitch while you do it), and just sort of be aware of the fact that like half the other bosses in this DLC he has an OTG that does massive damage. (So, uh... don't get knocked down, I guess? There doesn't seem to be a quick recovery system in place if you get truly flattened...)

You can also parry him. Almost everything he does can be parried in his initial state. I'm not sure about his secondary form; a lot of those attacks either can't be parried, or the distinction is largely academic anyway because he's never going to use them when you're in a position to reasonably do so. His melee can still be parried, but when he's in melee mode that's also your best time to go aggressive, so it might not be that useful...

Got back into the game with the DLC, but I hadn't progressed very far initially. Went from Amelia to Mensis and just now hopping into the Hunter's Nightmare at 75.

Sweet Christ, this is hard already. I haven't even found a boss yet, that Beastclaw hunter was a monster. This is content done right, it really put the fear back in me.

Just got back into the DLC with my second save file. I'm so happy I got
Ludwig
on my 2nd try. I think I got use to his moveset after trying to co-op one time.

Okay.. I've been suffering enough with OoK..

I can parry him until the damn second phase, and since I always get wrecked I have been losing too much with that phase, I´ve lost heart for the first, now I'm dying since that one..

Good fucking lord, getting the weapon at the bottom of the well is harder than any of the bosses.

Couple of things:

*You can parry the shit out of the first shark

*It's at about 50-60% health he calls in help. If you fight him in the back of the cave (away from where the 2nd one drops) you get more breathing room. Also, if you're back there, the first shark retreats at 50% health. If you hit him once or twice while he's retreating he pauses for a moment.

*Use a Shaman Bone Blade as soon as the other one becomes active and let them fight each other. If you see them get somewhat low on health pull the cannon out, bone marrow ash, and fire away. You'll hit both of them.

*If worst comes to worst and you absolutely have to fight both of them at once, hump the pillar in the center and keep going around in circles until they separate a little. Just take pot shots at the one with the weapon when he's alone. Better yet, if you can, try to land visceral attacks because your invincible during the animation.

No biggie, I'll just have to keep trying. I've already had him down to a couple of hits left before. It's only a matter of time.

Thanks man. Btw it was ng+ :)
Oh was it? Wasn't so bad then. Anyway glad to help!

I am not looking forward to trying the DLC in NG+3... xD

Edit:

Ive been trying to beat this shitty first boss since 6pm...im shaking im so angry. I didn't come close to having this much trouble with any bosses in the main game.

OH shit, he's the dude behind that one door?! Will I still get all the item drops if I take him out in the cell?

Yeah he will drop his weapon. I believe his attire drops at the location he shows up. Well atleast I found parts of his attire at locations and I am assuming the locations are where he invades you. I could be wrong about the attires showing up at his invasion location tho.

Ya know, after fighting
Laurence
a whole lot of times (probably well over 30 by now :p) over different NG+something for shits and giggles on co-op, I'm pretty damn convinced he gets new moves at different levels of NG, at least for a few of them. One of them being a super fast little punch like I think Abhorrent Beast has, the other being an extension on his wide sweep combo and I just for the first time witnessed a close range jump AWAY from me while I caught him in a combo, with no co-op partner being where he landed. And the jump was also far more straight forward than the usual one he does where he kinda does it like
Ludwig
in a high arc.

I was too tired to post this last night but here's my
Living Failures kill.
They were pretty easy all things considered but they seemed to have a ton of hp for some reason. I noticed that with
Ludwig
too. They both have way more hp than any boss in vanilla Bloodborne in ng. Their hp in ng+ must be insane. Also fought
Maria
last night but was way too tired and she killed me. Definitely are really cool boss. Probably the best boss of the dlc so far for me.

So I take it that's replacing the generic Bloodborne OT then?

I just tried a Chalice Dungeon (the defiled one, because of course xD) for the first time since the patch. I really like how they made the non-root chalice glyphs common to everyone now. Far more useful than before.

Still seems like the short ritual root chalice is complete crap with passwords though. Never managed to get summoned using that (and a password), not once. One time I waited for like 15 minutes too, chatting up the other guy. Nothing. Ugh, From, what u doin'.

Just beat
Maria.
Damn what a great boss fight.
Her presence, the arena , the music (goddamn the music is so good).
This one fight really made the dlc worth it for me. Also, I love the
church pick.
Moveset is amazing. Its already doing decent damage for me and I only have it at +8 and I only have 20 skill since my build is mainly a bloodtinge build. Reminds a little of the burial blade (which I love as well). Really wish I had a skill character I could take into this thing. Guess I'll have to take my skill character on ng+ to the dlc and try it out. Really hoping there are some bt weapons further in this dlc. So far, I haven't seen any.

Edit:
You can buy Maria's gear in the insight shop. Totally bought. Her gear looks really amazing.

Edit 2:
So I was reading the item description on Maria's gear and its really implying that Gherman was kind of a creeper and Maria had no idea. Sort of makes me see Gherman in a different light.

Dunno about password, but it's certainly faster to summon and get summoned without one. Guess the non-chalice patch helped a lot.

The bad side is that you keep summoned to Defiled or Loran Dark beast lol. Before the patch I got into more random root Depth 5 Chalices but maybe it's just my luck.

It's a shame that there isn't an interesting area to run while waiting to be summoned into the Clocktower.
