Shawn Layden (President SCEA) wearing Crash Bandicoot t-shirt at PSX...

I... made this gif :/

HD collection.

Take that to the bank

Better than nothing.

Just a curiosity but was Shawn involved at all with Crash while it was a Sony exclusive? Like PR or something like that?

Yes, though not sure in what position.

So I'm completely out of the loop here, not really gone through the thread but they did the same with vib ribbon didnt they? Someone wore a shirt or they mentioned it nonchalantly during a conference and then later on threw it up on psn. Who's to say they don't do that with the crash games?

Shawn Layden mentioned the game during his first presser, E3 2014. Apparently, he had forgotten that the game was never localized in the US until the next morning when the name drop had gone viral. He knew it had to get released here, and it happened.

I don't think we wore the Crash shirt for no reason.

Just realized something:

2016: Crash's 20th Anniversary and Sonic's 25th Anniversary

Next year is the year of a lot of important birthdays :V

Thing is with this though, he could of done the same with Crash. Just a playstation series of the past that he put on for the fans, without realising there is a fairly huge demand for Crash.

Let's just hope he did the same as he did with Vib Ribbon, and read Neogaf the day after PSX. Maybe he will get straight onto sorting out a Crash deal.

Or he learnt his lesson and this is a direct tease to something that is already in development.

I hope it's the latter!

It's likely that something's definitely cooking. We have two GAF insiders to prove that.

Shawn pulled the exact same trick last year for God of War 4 by wearing a GOW shirt and Cory Barlog announcing it on stage:

I can't even imagine how beautiful a PS4 Crash game could be. I want the first level to be like the first level of the original Crash, with Crash waking up on the beach for maximum nostalgia effect. A man can dream T-T

people saying that Crash would be too expensive (to buy the ip)(atleast in the past) probably forget, that the partnerships between Sony and Activision is on its peak.
Destiny, COD, Diablo (Blizzard - Activision) - Sony has a partnership with Activisions most important games

Can't you imagine, that as a result of this partnership, they somehow agreed on the crash ip?

What exactly do people want out of this? A remake? If Knack is any indication of how that kind of gameplay has aged then they can keep it.

Considering Shawn's blog post about Vib Ribbon -- he knows what he's doing with the Crash shirt. He clearly said he learned from that. The man is too smart and too high up in that company to not learn from that mistake.

Knack plays nothing like Classic Crash played. It's closer to God of War than it is to Crash Bandicoot.

The part of this that pains me the most is me knowing that there's something that flips this argument of them not being able to buy it on its head and not being able to speak about it.

I think it's down to gauging interest again. Oh look Activision, look at the response a Crash shirt got!

I strongly believe we will get the announcement at E3 2016 as it is clear we want a new Crash game, one that captures the art of the original trilogy. It might even launch at $40 just like Ratchet.

I play Crash 3 yearly. That game is timeless. Knack on the hardest difficulty was actually pretty good.

1. Sony getting (acquiring) the IP
2. Crash stuff in the Naughty Dog Shop / Crash cameos in future Naughty Dog games
3. New Crash games like Crash Team Racing

1. Sony getting (acquiring) the IP

I'm going to just get this off my chest already...

To be 100% clear -- I am not an industry insider and I am not making any claims or teases that the IP acquisition has or ever will happen.

That being said, it is my personal opinion that this isn't as unlikely as people think it is because of particular reasons that involve the way the rights for Crash Bandicoot work. I can't go in depth on this, as it's not my place, and I've made various promises over the years, so take it as you will... but the ownership rights for Crash Bandicoot are much closer to a clusterfuck than they are to a simple affair.

I 100% completed all of them this summer with my girlfriend. As dedicated of a Crash fan as I am, it was the first time I 100% completed Crash 3. Err, 106% rather.

Same here, I aced the entire trilogy back in May over the course of the month (my older brother did the same with Spyro).

But for some reason, I always find myself going back to Crash 1. I guess I love the difficulty of it.

Knack is poor man's Werehog. Yup.

Ouch. Oouuuch.

Crash 1 has an incredible atmosphere to it that I hope is retained in the new game. If there is one :V

Can anyone explain to me why everyone is so obsessed with Crash Bandicoot coming back?

Unless you've got a quality developer producing the game, Crash being "back" doesn't mean anything.

There's been close to 20 games in the Crash Bandicoot "series" but the only one anyone seems to give a toss about are the ones developed by Naughty Dog, and I seriously don't see Naughty Dog coming back to the Crash series; not that it even matters, since the majority of the team that worked on Crash have likely moved onto other teams or retired completely by this point.

The games released during the sixth and seventh generation seem to have been forgotten by pretty much everyone. Just because the character appears in a new game doesn't guarantee quality by any stretch of the imagination...just ask Sonic fans.

That's like saying the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy is the be and end all because Rare no longer works on the series. But wait, we have Retro that made two very good games. Good games can come from any development team given hard work, time and a good vision (and the right amount of money of course).

Honestly, do you people have anything better to do than to complain about other people's dreams and desires? It makes discussion frustrating and I can't see that mindset going away sadly just because the last few titles weren't anybody's cup of tea.

Why do I want to see Crash return? It was what got me into gaming in the first place (and I'm very grateful for that) and I'd love to see him come back after a long hiatus.

Are there that many platform-oriented developers left? Nintendo's teams and Retro for sure, but platformers aren't exactly a popular genre these days and I dunno who they would get to produce it.

I'd rather some original characters, personally. [See: Yooka-Laylee] As long as the game is excellent it doesn't matter who the player character is.

Traveller's Tale could develop it. Though they are now mortal enemies of Activision in the Toy Wars.

I thought so too but apparently all the Twinsanity guys have moved on at this point. There are a lot of capable developers who could make a great Crash game, but I don't know if enough of them are congregated under one house anymore.

I think someone mentioned Vicarious Visions earlier in they thread. They made the two GBA games, which were pretty good. Though this one would hopefully be 3D, closed-corridor style. Do we know what these guys are working on?

This line of thinking also works against your argument, though. And plus, Crash games have very specific and memorable gimmicks that if used with original characters would just seem... ripped off, in comparison. The crates.

The Traveler's Tales Oxford team is indeed disbanded. Some of them have expressed interest in reuniting, but that would require someone to pay for it.

Vicarious Visions is versatile. They also made the second kart racer (Crash Nitro Kart) -- it isn't CTR, but it's respectably close. Currently they're Skylanders guys, though..

So, Mutato Muzika for OST anyone?

The original composer, Josh Mancell, is no longer with Mutato Muzika, and Mark Mothersbaugh never actually composed for Crash. He was more in a supervisory role and supplied Josh with the studio to use -- he was the person who suggested Josh for the role.

That's okay. I like Spiralmouth better anyway.

Gabriel Mann from Spiralmouth did the music for the very last Crash game, "Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2" on iOS. He was also on the short list for the two canceled Crash games from 2010.

If this game is an Activision production, he'll probably be brought in.

Any studio can make a Crash game. HAHAHAH.

I love how everyone is like looking at studios that has previous platformer experience. That doesnt mean squat. They can easily form a team inside santa monica or naughty dog. And hire talent from outside. Its just the matter of throwing a decent amount of money at it.

whether they want to take a financial risk and potentially have their own mario. Or simply make a small game for the fans and make a decent profit.

Anyways, what about Spyro? why r we not talking about him?
