Sony has been fine with PC releases lately. This could just be an exclusive 3 game deal with PC as the other choice.

Sony has been fine making deals with 3rd parties. If Kojima worked at Sony there is little to no chance his game gets released on PC or anywhere else.

"No thanks, Rockstar. You've had your chance. We have a new studio to handle Agent now."

Or...

"No thanks, Bend. You've had your chance. We have a new studio to handle Syphon Filter now."

Or just whatever the heck Kojima wants to work on.

Not sure why some are surprised. He was always going to form a new studio and Sony's the most logical fit. Heavy presence in Japan, one of the few big publishers still there and willing to help him back on his feet. He has a great relationship with Yoshida, Cerny, etc and a longstanding, intimate relationship with Playstation.

SCE is done banking on huge projects.

Shu has really controlled costs there. We've seen this with recent layoffs, cancelling the new Santa Monica IP and 1st party closures.

Optimistically speaking I think this will probably be more of a partnership a la Shenmue or SFV. I can't see Sony pluck down millions of dollars for a new studio for a developer that, although gifted, struggles in controlling budgets.

I certainly hope Kojima's talents don't go exclusive.

Either way, I hope whatever he does is nothing like Metal Gear.

SCE would be a good place for small/medium projects and a lot of freedom. Definitely a good place for Kojima. And his games resonate more with playstation fans for obvious reasons.

As a Ps4 owner, I would be thrilled.

But it reeeaaaaally sucks for Xbone One owners if true.

Here's some info for you; great games resonate with gamers no matter what platform they are on. Kojima makes great games. The more platforms he can get his games on the more fans he will have.

Not surprising that he would bounce back so fast. I'm sure a lot of publishers/studios are ready to bring him on board. If talks with SCE fail then I would not be surprised if someone scoops him up within a matter of weeks. I hope he finds somewhere to work that he really enjoys.

Sony is always where I figured he would end up, they've always been close. Still, I'm sure there is a couple publishers out there offering Kojima a blank cheque so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

It wouldn't surprise me. Kojima is going to want resources to make his games which means big money. Wherever he goes though, he will have a tight ass leash.
