PG have to come up in every thread, it has been said. But why would Kojima join them? Because they're based in Japan?
Because people like Kojima and Platinum I guess.
Even if it's clear ever since the creation of KojiPro that his ambition is much larger than being a simple contractor, or that the type of games he wants to make are not really something he could make with an independent studio.

Here's hoping that his old employees can move over to the new studio as well.
Hopefully they can. I think sometimes non competition clauses dictate that if they're working against each other that the ex employee can't extend job offers and take company people. But in this case the non competition aspect should be over and Konami isn't planning on making more games.

Sony has been fine making deals with 3rd parties. If Kojima worked at Sony there is little to no chance his game gets released on PC or anywhere else.

While i agree that a SCE-funded Kojima game would stay on PS4, Sony recently has allowed first party releases on PC (Helldivers and soon Everybody's gone to the rapture)

Funding.

If Kojima goes full multi-plat then he will have to foot most/all of the bill of development.

Sony is really the best option for him if he were to choose a side since that is where most of his fans are worldwide.

You do know that there are like

a ton of third party publishers out there that could fund a Kojima game

like, i don't know, WB, EA, Zenimax...

Out of all the Japanese publishers, I think Sony is in the best position to offer him advantages and they could do with increasing their Japanese arm which has been a bit of a flatline recently (with a few exceptions but they had a very poor 7th generation), however, I wonder if he's also talking to some Western publishers. Maybe there's someone like Bethesda with Mikami, who are interested in getting an industry legend and increasing their presence in the region.

How so? Because they are both Japanese? Because MGS has a long history on PlayStation?

What makes this such an obvious logical move?

MG has an even longer history on PC seeing as how MG started out as a PC series and most of the games have been on PC. So it would make more sense for Kojima to start his next series for the first few installments on PC going by the logic in this thread.

None of those companies would give Kojima the freedom and funding he requires. SCE is a really good partner for KojiPro as they have a lot of experience working with Japanese developers already.

He's going for Sony? I'm surprised. He'd be able to have a much bigger scope in his projects if he was going multi platform.
He also would need someone who was ready to pay for that and I don't think crowdfunding would give hime the budget.

Edit: LOL. You want Kojima to go to EA or WB?
Edit2: The edit wasn't directed to you

Eh to be fair, after MGSV, I'm not really looking forward to Kojima's next work.

Part of me wants to think the game ended up being what it was story wise because of cuts and the whole Konami thing. I didn't really like the story, but it still felt unfinished to me. Gameplay was awesome.

I just want that spooky game colab with Del Toro feat. Norman Reedus.

Will they let him keep the IP? Will he be able to switch to a whole other game just after the first one? Sure they could fund it be it would come with a lot of restrictions.

I had been concerned that Kojima would go into film-making rather than stick with games, so I'm hoping this is true. PlayStation is a great fit for him, not just for his long prior relationship, but also for his brand of creativity. I would say going with SCEI is a safe bet, as going indie or getting a contract with a publisher for a new team would carry a number of risks. While exclusivity wouldn't be ideal, the security of heading up a new team within Japan Studio has the potential to lead to some great games.

Perhaps of the first-person horror, Guillermo del Toro-directed, Norman Reedus-starring variety.

Sony's track record this generation with first-party AAA games has been abysmal at best. Bloodbourne is the outlier. MS has much deeper pockets.

If you ignore 2016.

it is a weird choice of him tho :S

i mean, there are so many great third party publishers like activision, EA, ubisoft and warner bros...

why the hell would he go for an exclusive publisher???

You need a publisher, money, resources. Can't just freelance willy nilly on PC.

Isn't Sony pretty keen on keeping IPs for themselves too? I thought that was the reason behind Sunset Overdrive not coming to PS4 IIRC. Though granted they seem to grant more freedom to their bigger studios like allowing ND to make TLOU or GG to make Horizon.

So I am curious how rich is Kojima ?

Can he sustain an AAA game on his own or something ? Or is it gonna be more about him using his connections and influence to gain trust of investors and such.

You don't know that. WB especially gives time, resources and a lot of freedom to its developers.

Wait, Rapture has made its way to PC? I didn't know that.

Not yet. But it leaked, and with Helldivers, it seems trustworthy enough

Yeah, I don't think we would want another Shinji Mikami. Not that his games were completely horrible under those publishers, but...

What exactly is great about those? None of them would let Kojima make what he wants.
Maybe Ubisoft.

It's very logical. Has friends and history with PlayStation. Japanese company. Sony allow creative freedom. Will fund this type of director. Kaz from PD a good example.

get the crew up to speed with a remaster

will do everyone good to have a product shipping next season

no?

A remaster of what? All of his IPs are locked up with Konami and I would assume he would be wanting to make a new IP regardless of where he ends up.

MGSV just confirmed my fears after Peace Walker: Kojima doesn't know how to write anymore.

Oddly enough, we heard from Shuhei himself that WWS no longer working on mid-budget project, only AAA games now so I don't know why you said that

To clarify, I meant opening new studios. They've been doing the opposite.

Unless you have more info, which I'd gladly accept if your sources are tight.

I'm more interested in if key members of KojiPro go with him wherever he goes. Kojima is only 1 man, the MGS games weren't amazing only because of him, despite playing a huge part. I'm hoping they stick together when forming a new studio.
