Guerrilla Games Explains Why Horizon Zero Dawn Doesn’t Need a Multiplayer Mode

Do critics ever follow any sort of guidelines as to what to praise or dock anything? Nope. It is all opinions remember.

Is Horizon going to be as meaty as those games where you aren't looking for some more value on this disc because they gave you a lot to do? A game might only be 10-15 hours so the lack of anything else might be a negative. A 60-100hr game is going to get less flack for the omission of MP.

They(GG) said dozens of hours so I don't think value should be a concern.

Lol. There was no reason for them to explain this, nobody expected multiplayer with this game.

I think he's talking more about "multiplayer components" like a coop feature.
I think nobody really expected PvP but I think after the E3 reveal last year there were questions whether they would include Coop or not and they did instantly said no.

I can only respect decision to drop multiplayer. Solo/offline experiences are more important to me, as a player. Even though I like both ways of playing - single and with others.

Uncharted started out as SP, and then built upon that with a successful Uncharted 2 multiplayer which eventually evolved into a fantastic TLOU multiplayer.

Makes complete sense to launch as a refined SP experience and build on it in later sequels if appropriate/necessary.

I have no positive expectations for this.

I think they've admitted Zero Dawn is going to be a franchise they carry forward? I just don't expect the first game in a series that the developers know they'll make more of will be any good.

I'll wait for 'Horizon First Equinox' or whatever.

So because they're sure there will be sequels, they're gonna phone it in with this one and not even try?! Solid logic pal. Besides the fact of course that if the quality isn't there and they don't sell enough there probably won't be a sequel anyway.

Why even explain this lol. It'd be more surprising if there actually was multiplayer.

Oh then you haven't visit the announcement thread. There were literally a bunch of people crying about the lack of MP in this game. There was even a guy that said that this game deserve to be in the bargain bin, because fk single player.

Huh. Missed that thread. Isn't this like an open world action RPG?

I feel like this shouldn't have been said... Like why would this be multiplayer? Tacking on multiplayer to games that are clearly single player, is so tacky and makes it a shoe in. It's a waste of time and they shouldn't have explained this.

I keep wondering about Bethesda/Zenimax seemingly being the only major publisher consistently releasing singleplayer-only games.

Fallout
Elder Scrolls
Wolfenstein
RAGE
Dishonored
Evil Within

It feels like the only publisher the games of which don't require you to log into some online service every time you boot them up. DOOM is gonna be that publisher's first multiplayer game in a while.

Lol. Hope it sells four million to piss that guy. There's a billion multiplayer games. Why are people so greedy?

They've hired several new writers for this game, including the lead writer from New Vegas. The nature of an RPG versus an FPS also will allow them to fit more of the cool lore and presentation into the actual game.
Oh wow, the New Vegas guy eh? Finishing Fallout 4 really put NV in perspective for me.

They shouldn't have to. I'm liking this semi trend of single player only games making a comeback.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Wolfenstein New Order
Shadow of Mordor
Witcher 3
Dragon Age Inquisition
Horizon

Keep it coming devs.
It's sad if it IS a trend. We need both multiplayer games and single player games to coexist, not one being considered a trend while the other dominates everything. Hell, for a long while, both DID coexist. If we revert back to that(where both camps can get things that appeal to them), then the tacking on of MP to single-player games would be considered the "trend".

I agree with the general point, but it's worth bearing in mind that Rage did have online multiplayer. It was car races and combat stuff, as I recall.

I guess he means the game features a singular protagonist (like Witcher say) and hence how to add another character without having clones of the lead (which breaks suspension of belief) or having sensible secondary characters.

I'm fine to know it's just SP. Dont really expect anything else from a third person RPG title really.

I don't know why they had to explain the lack of a MP mode in their RPG :l; did Fallout 4 or Elder Scrolls have a MP mode....nope, and no one batted an eye toward that.

I guess people are asking due to the fact Guerrilla is studio that made Killzone, a MP-focused shooter, so they are figuring they will work some MP mode into Horizon despite that being a new IP.

Other then that, see no point to people asking Guerrilla for a MP mode in Horizon.

Totally fine with it not having multiplayer, not every game needs MP. I would much rather they focus on polishing the game and making it a fantastic experience rather than devoting resources to some half baked MP (not saying it necessarily has to go like this but yea).
