So 2017 is HL3, Portal 3, L4D3, and TF3,.... right? RIGHT? RIGHT VALVE? don't let me down.

Never been interested in L4D. I would rather see Valve make something new if they are not going to make HL3 or Portal3.

With the amount of time Valve had, the game has to be an improvement over L4D2. I'm not saying it was terrible, but the level design and the characters just weren't on par with L4D, which Valve so rudely attempted to kill with the sequel.

I had a lot more fun with L4D2 than 1, because of the characters and locations. The swampy bits, the southern vibe. Much better than what L4D1 had. LFD2 also a lot of great melee weapons!

They -should- give it the same treatment they've given TF2 and CS:GO in terms of multiplayer options. L4D2 still has one of the most unique competitive modes in the industry and is still very popular. They need to polish that, introduce some new mechanics, and give us a solid amount of content, host/game options, a proper ranking system, etc.

It will be glorious.

Yes, the melee weapons were great, but I just didn't have as much fun with L4D2. The only other benefit the game had were the amazing fan maps and skins that spawned from it.

Put together they're definitely my game of last generation. There's still a thriving MP community on 360 and Steam... something the much newer Evolve can't claim (not sure what the hell happened to Turtle Rock with that DLC train-wreck, but I don't want to get depressed so let's nip that in the bud).

I kind of view both games together as one release and love both equally for the most part. I loved how the Cold Creek update added all the L4D1 levels into L4D2. It did make a separate LFD1 install superfluous, but it updated the old levels a bit and allowed the new special infected to populate the old stages.

Really excited for L4D3!

Is Chet full time on Vive? I would have thought he would want to be heavily involved in Left4Dead's narrative. I guess he could write on the road but it doesn't seem like a Valve type of move.

I used to get sad every time I read L4D taking priority over HL3 until I realized that HL3 is as real as the fucking tooth-ferry.

I'm kinda curious as to why it's taken this long. Left 4 Dead isn't quite a perfect match for Valve's current business model as the thing that would probably sell the best would be actual campaigns, and curation of those is probably way more troublesome than say, hats, but given that L4D is a Valve IP that is focused almost exclusively around multiplayer I've been wondering for a while why they haven't released a new one based around the same business model as TF2/Dota2

They've said for so many years that they are multiplayer company now.

I don't even think it's in their DNA anymore. They are a different company now with different goal. HL2 was also a vehicle for Source and seeing the startup problems with Source 2, I think it's fine.

So HL2 doesn't end on concluded note, but I prefer the lack of resolution if the alternative would be a disappointing ending. They must have had their reasons for not doing Episode 3.
Before Duke Nukem Forever came out I wanted to give everything to see it. After over a decade in the dark I needed to play it. Turns out I actually didn't. Curiosity can get the better with you and give you answers you really didn't want.

I'm also emotionally removed for wanting the conclusion. Gordon Freeman and Alyx and the other characters don't have the pull on me anymore. Just letting go of the franchise and moving on. Leave it to someone else to push FPS forward.

Halo is over, Battlefield is over, COD is over. Someone else will come and move the genre forward, but it won't be Valve. Not in the single player space. The penetration with CSGO and DOTA2 is unlike anything we have ever seen, and their constant dedication and support for these titles is already becoming legendary as opposed to how much of the competition that is doing so many things wrong.

Okay, I knew this sounded familiar. 4 months ago there was an alleged ex-Valve playtester who decided to leak some things on reddit and the character names and 6 campaign was mentioned among them. The OP has been deleted since as naturally it was bull: https://www.reddit.com/r/HalfLife/comments/3h6le7/im_an_exvalve_testerand_id_like_to_talk_about/

L4D2 was a much better game than the original, though.

And of course it's fake. Ah well. I remember getting Xbox Live so I could play L4D online. Some great memories trying Expert and failing miserably.

Still one of my favourite games of all time. Make it playable on PS4 please Valve?

I really don't know what I despise more: that Valve may never do another game; that there may never be a new HL; or that the next game from Valve is a sequel to a sequel which I uninstalled after one hour of gameplay.

Such a lust for strong opinions on a game you put 1 hour into.

....they picked the one that sells the best on consoles. Hardly surprising.

The most surprising thing to me is that it's not targeted for 2016. That's not to say I'm taking everything in the OP as gospel.

Honestly if Valve never releases another one of their multiplayer games on console again I wouldn't be surprised.

The "Valve doesn't make games" rhetoric is so absurd. Even if you're the most cynical Valve poster, surely you can see the sensibility in making Left 4 Dead 3 due to how perfectly it aligns with Valve's current business model and project development.

There was too much daylight in L4D2. It killed the vibes of the series and made it feel even more arcadey. Something they should have done was have certain parts of a campaign be at different time of days.
