Atlus CEO teases unannounced titles

I'm going to choose to interpret that as a dig at the Atlus Japan execs who are too short-sighted and Japan-centric to follow the lead of literally every other Japanese third party of any consequence (and some of less) on PC support, not at the fans reasonably requesting PC support when it's becoming increasingly common from Japanese publishers.

Heh. Even if you look at it that way, it is a terrible response from a PR guy. I thought their job was to control messaging and not have people interpret their own nonsense.

I know the bulk of Atlus' recent work has been on handheld, but Persona 5, #FE, and the partnership with Vanillaware have me optimistic that they have more in development for console.

Here's hoping it's some kind of SMT game even if it's a spin-off. Perhaps a new sub-series...

Eh, the latter's going to happen regardless.

I thought it was a funny but I suppose some PC folks just can't handle it.

Now we're talking :")

A spin-off with reasonable encounter rates, I should add.

Tried playing DDS again recently and holy shit is the random encounter rate really high.

Now that I'm older, I can't stomach so many random battles within such a short span of time, lol

First thing come up to my mind when I read "our franchises will gather" was Growlanser. A low budget (preferably for handhelds) would be awesome. People need to do more stuff like Square's Setsuna. Low budget high quality RPG's.

I sure hope you're right. a Vita (or 3DS, sure) Growlanser game would be a dream come true, quite honestly. It seemed kind of weird for the creator, who has primarily been a game director his life on other series like Devil Survivor and Langrisser to not be Directing/Designing another game and just be a Producer. Hopefully he is and it's this.

Where the hell is that deviliser game?

Probably in the pits of hell along with Kaneko.

Let's not get silly here. Plenty of JP 3rd parties aren't giving PC support and PC isn't some special snowflake that deserves every title from every publisher.

In the last few years Steam has proven a really strong market for a lot of Japanese publishers. In an ecosystem where they are looking for any way to continue making console sized games, and your only other option besides PS4/3DS is the Xbox One, it seems weird to totally rule out something that's proving it's worth. It is good for everyone that the PC succeeds in that space. The pubs are grasping at straws trying to revive console gaming in Japan, so they need any reason possible to continue making games of this size.

NX will likely shake things up a bit for Japanese devs.

It's supposedly a gaming platform that encompasses a handheld and a console as well, where most games are playable on both.

That will connect the handheld/mobile market with the traditional console one.

Have you seen some of the responses in this thread? The dude shouldn't really be fanning the flames of that kind of nonsense, intentionally or otherwise.

Hmm, which third parties aren't? I guess I forgot about Level 5, but I'm drawing a bit of a blank on others.

And obviously, PC isn't getting every title from every Japanese publisher, but it's pretty clear that PC support is growing and will continue to grow, especially with the domestic market for dedicated gaming platforms not looking too healthy.

Anyway, I'm not really offended or anything, but it's certainly a weird way for a PR person to respond to a legitimate question, even if (as I'm charitably guessing), the people asking it aren't the butt of the joke.

It's time for a sequel to Groove on Fight.

Not only that, it is time for horror game Dark Messiah/Hell Night's returns!

And the return of SRPG goodness - Kartia! (And yes, there was an Atlus developed game released during the PSX era with Amano's art and yes, nobody played it)

Yea, I have. And I think they're ridiculous, so... *shrug*

Fanning the flames? I mean, whatever. If it's not this, it'll be incessant port begging and what have you in every other thread. Doesn't really bother me since it's not directed at me as I'll buy the games on PS4 or PC and I have no intention of being upset by a harmless meme image.

It would absolutely not be 2016. Vanillaware has talked about how they were shifting their development process to be able to develop two games simultaneously by essentially splitting their 26-team group in half. Given the quick turnaround on their games, I'd imagine 13 Sentinels is indeed 2017, while the OSL team goes on to do something else now.

pretty ambitious of them, do you have a link or something where I could read about it?

Judging by the pointless drama over the console branding of SFV in the other thread, and the responses in this thread, some PC gamers are coming off as rather overly-sensitve, lol

Fan the flames? It was an innocuous joke that highlights Atlus JP's stubbornness.

PR don't know anything else that we don't know. It's been a running joke that it's pretty hopeless to think a PC port is coming out. It's more of a dig at thinking Atlus JP has any projects for PC, than actual shaming.

Precisely.

Atlus JP is stubborn and stuck in the past. They don't see PC as a reliable platform to release games on.

Even in Japan, the dedicated handheld market has shrunk by 40% or so compared to last gen. The NX handheld will sell respectably there, I imagine, but I don't think it's going to prove any kind of savior for dedicated gaming platforms.

ITT: We port beg, until an Atlus guy gives a clear answer, then we act outraged.

I don't know how much you know about the port begging culture Mr. Atlus PR guy but....

Come on, let's not act it's a one sided thing. You got the same things for Vita, for PS4, for NX. Basically in this thread about unannounced titles, people are just making their wishlist.

It is getting rampant that every time a Japanese game will get announced, there are a number of posts that say "PC port plx". Shit is annoying already. As much as it is good that Japanese publishers are coming to Steam, it also brought bad things like many Western fans expect all Japanese games getting a PC port.

And it's equally annoying there, if you want to speculate on unannounced games fine, but it's tiring when it's just "please put P4G on PC"

Yes it has changed from "neat, this game is coming to pc" to "why the fuck is this not on steam, (insert company name) are idiots stuck in the past" etc. It reeks of entitlement, and it is incredibly annoying.

And then again, I seen people asking for P5 on Vita, P4G on PS4, P5 on NX, P3 on PS4/PSV. I'm not saying it's a good thing or an excuse. But let's not turn it into something like this.

A simple no would have been easier than posting a meme.

He's about as aware as any other poster here about an Atlus game actually getting ported to PC. It's a joke about how Atlus games don't get ported to PC; not one people are supposed to take as a scathing insult.

You mean like people portbegging Xcom 2 for the PS4 or the Dragons Dogma PC for next-gen? Shit, just look at Rise of the Tomb Raider and all the platform shitposting it got.Lets not pretend this only happens with only one platform, and lets not pretend that PR making a gamefaqs level post is somewhat okay.

Yeah, it happens, but PC portbeggers are leading that charge by a fucking landslide. It does get old.

It could definitely be seen both ways. Unintended damage from an inexact statement.

We just had a thread with PS4 fans wanting Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Collection ported to PS4 instead of PS3 (where those games are and make quick collections possible). Old ass Naruto games. "Port begging."

It happens.

Also this. Japanese console market is shrinking. They pin their hopes on the West. Japanese portable market is shrinking. Western portable market is worse. PC market is expanding worldwide. Sooner or later, these developers and publishers will have to take a more serious look at the platform because PC buyers are hungry for their products. I'm not personally going to get mad at Atlus if they don't want to move into the PC market, but I also won't be surprised if they find that their markets force them to sooner or later.
