Star Fox Zero delayed to July 2016?

This is one game I welcome any and all delays. It looks rough, and isn't exactly on my must-play list. here's hoping when it's re-revealed it looks like some major strides have been made.

Hopefully the critical (and possibly commercial) responses to quick releases like Mario Party, Triforce, and the Animal Crossing spinoffs made them take note that they need more than a brand.

The trouble is, Nintendo loves spacing their releases out for more consistent fiscal quarters. In a perfect gamers' scenario, we'd get the NX launch with one new title from all of Nintendo's primetime IPs; Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Pikmin, Donkey Kong and Splatoon (since that's their latest darling). A coming out party where they're like, "Bitches leave" and have an amaze-balls launch lineup.

...but they won't. They would never do that. And it's a damn shame.

They wouldn't do that because sales for a bunch of those games would be cannibalized.

It'd make way more sense to have those games spaced out over the first year.

Man, if this game launched in November it probably would have been as poorly received as Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, huh. Glad they want to do this game right.

Always remember the legendary phrase "A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever."
  • A delayed game might eventually be good but it may not be financially feasibile to spend the time and money needed to make it good, so it still ends up shitty. See: every delayed shitty game ever.
  • A rushed game is not forever bad. We live in an era of downloadable patches.
  • It is possible that a game's concept can just be fundamentally bad at the core. Delaying is no magic solution.
Just release this dud and move on.
I am actually curious what they're spending their time doing with this game. What is the reason to delay?

Uhh, who the hell has the money to buy a $400 console plus 7 $60 games in one day? I'm pretty well off, but even I would hesitate spending that much.

Yeah but we already know Star Fox is good at its core, so there's no reason more effort on Star Fox Zero can't turn it into a great game. I support a further delay, if one is actually happening.

I'd imagine speed and gamefeel, predominantly. I think they've likely hit the cap on the graphics unless they're programming in a "disable GamePad" mode for higher fidelity.

There's been an air of sluggishness to the levels shown, imo.

I see your point, but I respectfully disagree to an extent. Non-hardcore gamers need more than just one or maybe two big games and the promise of more in the future to plunk down 300-500 dollars for a brand new console, especially if they don't have the existing kinship with Nintendo as a brand/game company. They'd have a much easier time getting that day one adoption with a ridiculous only-on-NX lineup on day one.

Well, that and solid third party support this time around. As much as the Maddens and Call of Duties of the gaming world make me gag, they're what's hot.

It's more from the standpoint of a something-for-everyone lineup.

Regardless, I'm going to be pretty bummed if Star Fox Zero doesn't come out for the Wii U like promised. It's one of the games I'm really looking forward to in the first part of this year.

Doing something like that would've been a perfect way to make sure Splatoon was left out to dry.

"Why the eff would I buy that squid nonsense when literally every other Nintendo IP I care about was just released?"

It would be perfect for gamer's with bottomless pockets, I'll concede that.

Non-hardcore gamers aren't buying a dozen big games at the launch of a platform. Having a steady release schedule is far more beneficial for a console than a massive dump of quality games at the same time.

Star Fox as a general series-wide concept, sure. Do we know the concepts behind Zero, particularly those linked to the Gamepad are good? No, not yet. And I personally have my doubts.

Speed would make the most sense to me really and definitely is what I'd like them to focus on.

So some people want Nintendo to keep supporting the Wii U this year, and others want them to cancel everything and move it to the NX. Can't please everyone. I feel like those who want everything to go to the NX aren't even Wii U owners though.

Star Fox Zero isn't going to be an NX game, lol. This mindset of "Nintendo should cancel everything and put it on NX" is super annoying.

Indeed. Can we please not do this every other thread about a 2016 Wii U-game? We don't know what the NX is, we don't know when it's coming. There are no assumptions to be made about anything yet, not even Zelda Wii U, so it's getting quite obnoxious to hear it parroted at every opportunity how everything on Wii U is supposedly coming to the NX and that any delay is obviously to make room for NX-versions.

That stuff is optional control methods, though, as it seems you can play the whole game without it at all. So, really, it shouldn't impact the overall game concept.

Again as I said in the other thread the wait is nothing more than a good thing. If we're lucky, they could be developing a multiplayer mode! I'm glad they're actually putting more time into one of their B tier series.

Also lol at people wanting the game to be cancelled and moved to NX

like that would change peoples' minds and want to get the NX at launch lmao. Please.

This would actually be the third delay.

Holiday 2015 to Q1 2016
Q1 2016 to April 2016.
April 2016to July 2016.

Hopefully it turns out well. It did look better in the last released footage.

I have a feeling Nintendo was trusting Platinum and not watching this closely and the E3 build last year did not make them happy.

Bummer. I don't think this game looks great but how many games let you fight a giant disembodied chimp head in outer space in a ship that becomes a chicken?

Probably an European only delay if true. With this and the recent info of TP HD on Amazon France a Direct could be around the corner

On the contrary, for better or for worse Nintendo is always extremely hands-on with spin-off projects done by outside studios.

Lol this game isn't going to NX. Miyamoto's goal for this project was doing something new with the GamePad. It's not going to sell systems and it'd take an entire reworking of the graphics to look decent on new, higher spec hardware. It'd also tick off Wii U owners, something that's worth it for a big budget system seller like Zelda, but not worth it for what is likely Wii U's last exclusive.

Also the NX isn't coming out in July so lol?

If this was true they wouldn't have made a demo build, and people that play it said it was fun but rought on the edges, seems they are taking that to heart.

The more time to improve the game the better. It looked like it needed more time in the oven and now it's getting it. I doubted a delay to Q1 would be enough to do much with it since that was only going to be a few months tops. Delay to summer would be welcome.

Yeah. Look at the Starfox-inspired section in Bayonetta. If Platinum had free reign, we'd be getting something that looks much more exciting.

I don't know if it means much, but my Amazon pre-order (which has always said April), now says August 31st - September 2nd.

I can't wait to play it, but if there is a further delay and it makes the game better, I fully support it.

If this game gets a delay, I hope it's a development delay and not just one to pad out the schedule. In other words, I want this game to be in development through July and not just sit around done starting in April. I want this game to be as good as possible.

Considering Pokken is likely releasing around the time Star Fox Zero was going to launch, it being pushed to July is a good move, as it ensures Nintendo has something for the Wii U every month/every other month:
-Zelda TP HD: Feb 2016
-Smash DLC Release: Feb 2016
-Pokken: April 2016
-Mario & Sonic: June 2016
-Star Fox Zero: July 2016
-#FE: August/September 2016 (NA/EU Launch)
-Zelda U: November 2016 (Cross-Gen Game with Wii U & NX)

Hopefully this delay adds in more graphical polish, more content and hopefully some form of Multiplayer (local or online).

Edit: Looking at that list, it really seems March/May will be the only months without a major Wii U release, so if Nintendo works something out for that month, the droughts for Wii U owners this year will be minimal.

Zelda TPHD releases on March 4. Also, rumors (Nintendo UK) are currently putting Mario & Sonic in August, so it'll probably be that month's game.

Since Nintendo has 6 currently announced retail games releasing this year, it'll definitely be more than March and May that don't have retail releases unless Nintendo announces more (I'm not counting smaller digital releases, even though things like Box Boy and Mario vs. DK are great). That said, if this is Wii U's final year, I think this is somewhat okay, since we'll likely get an explosion of titles (2-4) this holiday season at a new system's launch. If it's NOT its final year...then I am very worried about what 2017 will look like.

As I said in the other thread about this, they should take their time. It's not like Star Fox games are common, and a really bad game could take this franchise the way of F-Zero, i.e. no game for another decade. And it's not like it matters for Wii U sales. That story is already written.

They wouldn't do that because sales for a bunch of those games would be cannibalized.

It'd make way more sense to have those games spaced out over the first year.

you know, normally I would agree with this but going off of how evergreen some of the sales are for games like Mario and splatoon and Mariokart, I actually think some of these could release at the console launch without a huge impact in their lifetime sales since most people would end up picking them up anyways down the line (Donkey Kong, Zelda and Metroid being the outliers in this)
