These are the two I converted. Need to go in and readjust the black one as the screen is dimmer. Also have to make one more with a screen I have in my drawer. Love the aesthetics on these and the ergonomics are top notch.

How is the brightness overall? Never seen the mod in person so I've always been curious. I noticed how big of a difference there is between the SP and the DS/Macro when comparing side by side. Favoring the DS , imo.

It's the same screen as the SP and I hevn't made the comparison in person so I'd guess based on what you're saying the DS sounds better. I just dislike the the square feeling of those handhelds when compared to the GBA OG. Also, if you aren't into doing the mod yourself then it's less appealing definitely as the price is somewhat high. though comparable to the DS one in this thread.

Unless you can make it so the A and B button functionality is on two buttons that aren't a pain to use then it's worthless. I don't know what they were thinking but my god. I can't even play any games on my DS Lite because of the placement of the A and B buttons and inability to change which ones you can use.

Is there any version of a modded gba that uses a larger screen? It bums me out that nintendo dropped gba support with the ds xl.

I'm still holding out for a GBA SP AGS-101. This is the GBA SP that was released after the DS fat, and it has a backlit screen (like the micro) rather than a front-lit (like the AGS-001 SP). I just don't want to plonk down £100 for it, and there are a lot of imitation backlit SP refurbs and fakes.

Afaik, there're only three 101 models in Europe: Surf Blue (light turquoisish), something something Pink, and Tribal. There are also pink and tribal AGS-001, though. So I'd ask sellers on ebay if it says AGS-001 on their model.

It's not as great as it's made out to be. The screen is ghosty in high contrast movement and doesn't work well in the sun. In good lighting conditions original SP with light off or AGB-001 are fine, in poor lighting conditions at home I usually go for GB Player with GBI.

Whats the matter with ags-101 refurbs? A lot of them on eBay at $99 USD in tons of different colors. Good reviews too it seems like.

But aren't these on emulators?

No, it's a hardware clone.

The emulators on it are the emulators for old consoles written for GBA. If you have a GBA flash cart you can get emulators for the Neo Geo, Mega Drive, NES, and other older consoles. Pretty much anything pre-SNES.

The aftermarket cases kinda suck. You'll find more creaking, weaker plastic, some rough edges, everything doesn't fit quite as well.

That's good to know. I've been very close to getting a purple ags-101 refurbs from eBay on multiple occasions.

Perhaps I should just grab a revo k101 plus instead.

It's such a shame the Revo k101 has a weird aspect ratio and weird resolution.
If I want to do that, I might as well play on PSP.

I'd like to use GB Player with Game Boy Interface, but I don't know how to get that working.

I've always wanted something like this. Unless I destroy my own gba though, they cost quite a bit pre built.

I bought a backlit modded GBA from a HK seller on eBay for 70 USD, and it's great. He doesn't sell them anymore however, and I've only seen some US sellers, but they're asking a much higher price. The RoseColoredGaming mods are also really quite expensive, so not much of an option unless you have money to burn.

Funny to see this on here.

But my good friend is the guy who makes these, and he wanted me to let people know that he is currently moving to a different state currently and he wont be able to reply for most of today if anyone emails him about an order or a wants to purchase one.

Kinda funny that this article happens on moving day, haha.

I was wondering what article people were referring to, just saw the Kotaku article now. Weird. I've never been referenced in anything before. What do I do now?

While talking about weird GBA stuff this inspired me to return to a storage project I was never completely happy with. GBA carts are one of the tougher physical medias to deal with as far as being able to sort and find things. A few years ago I put together this thing with some glue and a photo box.

It works well enough as far as footprint, it holds a crapload of games while being easy to move around, but finding the specific game I want has always sucked. I spent most of the day trying a bunch of different things, including the popular internet solution of using collectible card sheets, but not particularly happy with any of those. Then it hit me. A medium that even a dummy like me could work with to shape exactly what I am looking for... LEGO.

I went to the Lego store and got a handful of a bunch of weird Lego. I had hoped to post some cool pictures of final results.. but.. uhh.. turns out Lego is fun and I ended up trying a bunch of weird things, but here is the basic idea I am operating under. Angle the games back a bit so that you can see the cover without pulling the cart out. Still not exactly sure on spacing and angle, but I think this will be the way I go about it.

just buy a good condition vintage one.

I have two originals gbas and an ags-001 sp. Perhaps I could take apart one of the gbas...

I'd probably buy one in an instant for $70. Most I see are around $150.

Buying an unopened Pearl Green ags-101 in 2014 for $200 seemed dumb at the time... kind of still does. I'd also do it again.

It's possible to adjust the screen of the AGS-001. It won't be as good as a 101 but it brought my original 001 from unplayable to bearable/decent.

Why lol? I have every model and GBI and totally agree with him.

Ags-101 has some serious ghosting and audio problems (when not using audio out). The ags-001 has a screen with far less ghosting and a way better speaker.

And playing them on GBI beats everything else under the sun by a landslide.

I saw a listing on ebay for a "gameboy macro" which was literally just the entire top panel ripped off. Nothing was done to dress up the butchery.
