Lol, he's doing a great job of calling out some questionable comments. Sad it seems to be a lost cause.

I really don't get why people are upset about The Witness' price, it's the same price as the Talos Principle was on release and I dear say The Witness has more content.

I suspect because The Witness was made by a smaller team (correct if I'm wrong) they think it should cost less, or they see it as just a "walking simulator".

He's doing good in there.

I know, I know. Just feels so pointless, it never stops. I was more involved with these discussions 3 years ago, but I gave up.

What feel so strange about that discussion is not so long ago people were complaining about the lack of mid tier games, that everything was or a big AAA release or a $10~$15 "small" indie. But now that we have independent developers moving to fill that hole it suddenly isn't worth it because reasons.

True, didnt even think about that.

So let's talk about your DOTA 2 habits...

Please don't tell me you spent loads of money upgrading compendiums.

I have spent money on various stuff:
  • clothes with an unlock code for an in-game item,
  • gambling while opening chests,
  • upgrading compendiums,
  • using the market to buy "immortal" items,
  • using the market to buy items for speculative purposes,
  • subscribing to websites like dotabuff.com or yasp.co to monitor my stats,
  • buying tickets to watch tournaments in-game,
  • buying every arcana item, released every 6 months or so,
  • buying couriers,
  • buying music packs,
  • etc.

Ah ok - I thought it was a one avenue purchase like "I can't get enough of skins for Ursa!"

I need to start playing again.

I am trying to spend less though. I have not listed the amount which I have spent in 2013, but it was the worst, maybe 3 times the amount spent in 2014. The first step to try to spend less is to realize how much is spent. Spending money online makes it hard to grasp.

I need to start playing again.

No, you do not need. I should not have started, I have learnt that I am subject to this kind of addiction. After this kind of experience, I am never doing drugs or going into a casino in my life.

I have about 1500 hours in DOTA 2 I think? I've probably spent less than £60 in that time though? There's never really anything that appeals to me outside of basic compendiums and the odd skin for a most played hero.

Make that 2,100 hours.

I have 3362 hours, it does not make it cost effective. I wish I were able to spend as little as you did.

You could probably cut out things bit by bit.

How much is DOTA Buff, for example? Are the stats it offers you (beyond the basic stuff and the ones built in to DOTA 2) worth the money?

I stopped Dotabuff last year, since Yasp.co offers the same for $1 (paid once and for all). So far, I have spent nothing on the game in 2016!

Just want to highlight the generosity of a fellow gaffer who gifted me The Witness in the pricing thread. Rafaelr wanted to brighten up the thread from the ignorant comments people were making on the price. Really kind of them to do that and it will not go to waste as I've been looking forward to The Witness for a long, long time. Overwhelmed by their generosity.

Stay strong! You can still enjoy the game without spending a single penny!

We'll support you

New Kickstarter project (but please don't let that scare you off yet):

Invisigun Heroes - PC (Steam or DRM-Free), Mac and Linux. Stretch goals for PS4, Wii U and Xbox One.
E4C9B7764A2ECD52D1A4372CB451DF4168C56F47

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shadiradio/invisigun-heroes

Invisigun Heroes is a multiplayer, single-screen stealth battle arena game with a twist: everyone’s invisible!

I wish I had the privileges to make a thread and spread the love for this project... I simply love the concept, plus the pixel art is pretty sweet on this one (lots of TowerFall vibes here).
I would strongly advise everyone to check the very entertaining Kickstarter video mainly because this particular game is pretty much impossible to show off through screenshots, for obvious reasons. Also, muppets!

DP - sorry.

Is it worth us putting, into the OP maybe, a list of upcoming and notable indie releases?

I know we have the upcoming section but they could be months/years away from release. Instead we have a list of bigger releases - Witness, GRIP, Slain (before delay) for quick reference? I think I'm losing track

We could split the second post into "releases with date" and without date. That should sort it a bit.
