Media Create Sales: Week 3, 2016 (Jan 18 - Jan 24)

At this point some random guy could make a home made console and it could sell more than the Xbox One. No really I'm serious. He could probably just have a few people helping him out to manufacture them. It's just about 15 per day so it wouldn't be too bad.

Media Create should track down the 52 Xbox one owners and let them know they are 1 of only 52 people who bought one in all of Japan over the last week. Maybe that would generate some word of mouth lol.

More like 8 per day right?

Next to the weekly Splatoon circle jerk, XB1 sales talk is probably the worst thing in these threads. It's been like 6 years since the Xbox brand had any semblance of relevancy in the Japanese gaming market. Microsoft's hardware sales fell off a cliff long ago, and that's saying something given that wasn't the tallest of points to drop from. XB1 debuted to numbers closer to failed hardware revisions than a new platform. So I find it hard to be surprised by its continued abysmal performance. It's like digging up a corpse every three weeks to go, "Yeah, you're still dead." This isn't even a spectacular failure either, as Microsoft hasn't made a significant investment in trying to make XB1 a success in the country. They didn't have a bunch of the AAA Japanese game space making exclusives for them this time around.

I kind of feel similarly. Honestly, I don't even read the sales for xbox1 when I'm scrolling down. I barely read PS3 sales either. Certain things aren't all that interesting anymore in MC, when there's nothing to change it the future, i.e. xbox1 sales and PS3 sales at this point in its life. Also, Wii U sales are trending toward predictableness too.

Stuff that's still interesting for me.
PS4 Hardware,
3DS and Vita HW, (basically how well they continue to hold. And 3DS is the market leader, so it has to get attention)
Wii U software, PS4 Software (especially the upcoming "big games"), 3DS software.

I didn't find much wrong with the splatoon stuff last year. If it was MK8, it'd be excessive since good sales were expected, but splatoon kind of came out of no where. Like yokai 1.

Pretty slow week.

01./00. [PS4] Yakuza: Kiwami <ADV> (Sega) {2016.01.21} (¥6.490) - 103.256 / NEW
02./00. [PS3] Yakuza: Kiwami <ADV> (Sega) {2016.01.21} (¥6.490) - 60.427 / NEW
Yakuza did pretty decent for a remake, I guess. Yakuza 6 sales will be interesting

03./00. [3DS] Hyrule Warriors Legends # <ACT> (Koei Tecmo) {2016.01.21} (¥5.800) - 54.479 / NEW
expected a bit more of it.

08./06. [WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥5.700) - 13.764 / 1.215.154 (-25%)
10./07. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad <ACT> (Level 5) {2015.07.11} (¥4.600) - 10.608 / 2.172.431 (-28%)
11./09. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.400) - 10.431 / 631.491 (-21%)

Even the games with legs slowing down quite a bit. Not unexpected though.

WIU | 11.298
XB1 | 52
Wii-U going back down. and XB1... a new low.

lets hope next week will be a bit better

Yakuza still relevant year after year. 160K for a full price remake is definilty promising for Yakuza 6.

There was the Jump Festa trailer as well, but I think the core issue is that there's not much game to show off.

I very much agree, my point was that Setsuna is certainly a very modest game.

Is there any release schedule for PS4 and 3DS? I think in next couple of months PS4 might top hardware chat in more weeks than 3DS. But I don't have any idea of 3DS release in February and March

Because the bar is going to be too low

2DS release. No way PS4 beat 3DS that month.

Ehh given the current trend, I don't see the PS4 overtaking the 3DS in any upcoming month for the early year unless things drastically start to change. This is a week, for example, of full decline across the board and yet the 3DS is still hanging higher (by varying degrees depending on tracker) despite its only relevant release being a port.

The 3DS's baseline this year is simply holding higher than I had expected as last year it was still riding N3DS launch, this year its just riding... magic clouds, I guess. While the PS4 really hasn't made much progress/gained any substantial upward moment from its price-drop, its just hanging to what appears to be the same ~20k baseline.

The launch of the 2DS with Pokemon anniversary will give a that month a very strong shot in the arm, to the point where I think it will be impossible for it to lose. Launching on the tail end of February may also cause that release to heavily affect March.

As likely as KanColle Kai becomes an evergreen title for Vita like MineCraft..

Kiwami is a remake, not a "remaster."

If Yakuza 6 doesn't do 200k+ FW, something's wrong:

[PS3] Yakuza 5 # <ADV> (Sega) {2012.12.06} (¥8.800) - 356.757 / NEW <65,80%>

If Yakuza 6 has only a 200k+ first week and not 300k+ it's heading for a big decline.

Wii U sales shit again. System needs a new Splatoon/SMM.

Pretty good debut for Yakuza, no?

I doubt it will get one. Pokkén is the closest thing to a big game it has this year in JP as far as we know, right? I expect Zelda to do worse than SMM and a bit better than DKTF.

huh? Isn't that an insanely huge range?

not the latest number, but in all of 2014, Tropical Freeze did:

069. [WIU] Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.02.13} (¥5.985) - 116.273 / 116.273

116k.

And Mario Maker may well get to 1 million.

So...

~120k < Zelda < 1 million?

guess I can't argue with that.

Zelda TP doing anything more than 150K is going to be crazy.
Zelda U depends on what exactly the NX is, for example if it's a handheld released by the end of the year with Zelda U port than there is no way Zelda on Wii U even surpasses 300K.

Yeah, the NX question makes Zelda sales hard to predict.

I've been wondering if Zelda U had a chance at outselling Skyward Sword.

By the end of 2013, SS had done:
701. [WII] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword # <ADV> (Nintendo) {2011.11.23} (¥6.800) - 5.096 / 357.374

That may be tough. But maybe I'm underestimating console zelda.

Sorry. I meant, just a bit better than DKTF. That's what I was trying to say with "a bit better than DKTF." I should have said a lot worse than SMM.

Should do great but nothing of crazy.

That is more in line (284.618 LTD) with what the eShop rankings showed because November digital sales estimates were lower than I expected even if they were tracked for just 2 days.

Code:
[B]November, 2015[/B]

[3DS] Monster Hunter X # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥6.264) - 1.542.104 (111.544) / 1.653.648 [NEW]

[B]December, 2015[/B]

[3DS] Monster Hunter X # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥6.264) - 1.049.460 (173.074) / 1.222.534 [2.876.182 LTD]

[B]January, 2016[/B]

[3DS] Monster Hunter X # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥6.264) - 124.248 (______) / 124.248 [3.000.430 LTD]

Sell-through is already over 3 million units if we include what the game has sold (retail) in January.

I figure out that shipments will be around 3,3 million by the end of the fiscal year, 800.000 units over Capcom's forecast.

Now that I remember, the last time we got the results for our monthly predictions was in May. The prediction league for the month of January was never posted. Road has been missing from these threads for a long time so I suppose he must be very busy, so if there is no objection I could temporarily take over the prediction league.

My primary intention was to calculate all the missing results, but honestly, it is much more work than I expected and no one will care about predictions made several months ago. So I will post June 2015 results because they are already done, but the next results will be for the month of November.

I still can't believe Splatoon and Mario Maker moved in perfect lockstep over the holidays. How did they get so much synergy with each other?

Minecraft U sales seem to be off to a solid start. Which we already knew, but it's nice to get a more solid estimate.

Minecraft digital

PS4: 138.679
PSV: 328.193
WIU: 77.233

I may be missing many months, Hiska might have more up to date data, PS3's most recent data is several months old.

On Famitsu retail + digital Minecraft Vita will be hitting 900k next week, will be interesting to see how it goes after Dragon Quest Builders.

Assuming most people bought standalone systems, then those two games are gonna be what's most prominent, both on shelves and in terms of advertising. What it seems to indicate is that people buying the system wanted at least two games to play on it, so when they bought Splatoon (which I would not doubt as being the primary draw), they then bought SMM in addition to make the best of a single purchase.

Also, definitely interested in seeing where Minecraft Wii U goes. Could easily imagine there being overlap for those who've bought SMM but haven't played Minecraft yet.

Famitsu again, they tracked 52 weeks for 2015, but for December Monthly digital and retail sales they're adding week 53 (week 1 2016 for them).

I have updated digital numbers for Minecraft on my computer, I'll post them when I'll be at home.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Who are those 52 people who bought an Xbox One last week?

How do late VN ports generally do on the vita?I'm not sure if that's a ok number or not for Muv-Luv since the sell through is great but the number of units sold seems very low.

That being said it's also 9800 Yen

Sweet! I hope you'll post a report somewhere, if you have the time.

Also, Capcom updated its list of million-sellers (as of December 2015). Financial results for Q1-2 2015/16.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate "above" MH4, but both are at 4.1 millions.
Monster Hunter X at 3.2 millions.

SFIV 3DS at 1.2 million?
