The best looking texture you saw so far

Both those pictures are here as a joke. The UC tree never made it into the game in that form, and the PDZ wall was neat, but also an example of an extremely weird piece of technology that didn't gel with the rest of the game.

aw what

why would somebody do that D:

I was legit impressed by that tree

I distinctly remember going back to UC3 on PS3 to see if the tree actually looked like that and it does.

The textures aren't of the same resolution, but yes, UC3 does have nice trees. Though today they're somewhat outdated, nobody would bake all that detail into diffuse in a PBR pipeline today.

That's a shot of the shipped Uncharted 3 PS3.

Really? I'll take your word for it. I distinctly remember being a lot less impressed with it, seeing it directly. Maybe it breaks down when seen from different angles, dunno.

It is kind of hard getting a frame of reference on account of that being the only example floating around the net.

All of these textures on PS4 and PC look amazing and makes me really hyped to see Nintendo make its magic in textures for their games on the NX.

Anyone find any good textures for games on the Wii U besides Smash 4 and Pikmin 3?

Despite being over 15 years old and low-res by today's standards...Silent Hill 2 & 3 still clearly had a damn lot of work put into their environment texturing.

What you and I define as best seem very different. Star Wars Battlefront looks beautiful but a lot of other games have textures that I deem as more impressive. I think the fur effects in Conker Live and Reloaded are better than anything Star Wars Battlefront has because of how it's taking advantage of hardware limitations. It's far more impressive. Also the substitute in Super Smash Bros for Wii U just looks better than anything I've seen in a video game, the pizza in Pikmin 3 just looks real.

you're not even posting full resolution pics, which is laughable when trying to prove a point about graphics or textures.

I can't tell if it is the AO or something else (that little fur shader maybe ? )that makes people think the substitute doll of smash looks impressive, but I can tell you the textures aren't the reason.

The way I understand it, Uncharted 3 (and maybe the earlier games) streams in higher quality assets on objects when you aim at them.

No texture in mind or file saved or anything...
I always loved santa's face in Star Ocean 4, surprisingly cartoony for a game of anime people. At least it was the one thing in the game meant to be funny that was funny.

Nathan Drake needs to be played by Tom Hardy if there's a movie. Look at him in Mad Max and then look at the Drake model in UC4.

The textures on the ground? What textures are people referring to here?

You have got to be joking. It's the Substitute doll. Looks incredible, especially considering the platform.

I don't trust those Uncharted images. Don't think the game shows that level of graphical fidelity thus far.

I wasn't sure if it was a rendered fuzzy shader effect or a texture, because it looks like the rendered soft look is applied to the edges as well. That part looked okay, but more like a rendered effect, though I guess I'm probably wrong. The obvious textures though, not so much at all.

Why not (click them to zoooooom)

Alien: Isolation, Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Citizen are the 3 games that continually impress me with sheer texture quality.

Dictator, if you have some detailed shots of the Merlin's engines and stuff you should post them, I can't find any good quality ones that I have.

There is absolutely nothing amazing about substitute textures, you think it looks amazing artistically, but technically its not impressive at all.
Someone DARED to say something good about a Wii U game from a technical point of view. Now you have to face Ninjablade's judgement.

other people have complained as well, this thread is about best looking textures in games. the dude posting a pic of a simple model, that looks like shiny plastic, saying it's the most impressive thing he has ever seen in a game. when even textures from ps3 games are far more impressive, like the uncharted pic or kratos model.

Textures can be good-looking considering the time period or the technical capabilities, and people are posting those. Surely that can't be impossible for you to comprehend.

fact still remains those textures are not impressive for the time period or technical capabilities.

Always felt GT had some of the best road textures in racing games. Some of the ps2 stuff still looks quite nice on the darks

The thing about the substitute doll is that while it's obviously not the best looking thing in the world, it looks so much better than the rest of the game that you can help but stop and be confused about it for a bit

Remember Goldeneye on the N64?

Remember this part with the modem thing?

Here's how it looks if you zoom in on the modem with the sniper rifle:

Pretty crazy right? And yeah, it looks this way on the real N64. I remember being impressed by this, i think it was the first time i was ever impressed with this whole texturing deal.

I like that pic, but those textures aren't particularly impressive. Lighting is nice though.

But the substitute doll is damn near real-life fidelity. However I think it's the lighting more than the texture, which has lead to the look.

Is that the best texture in the entire game? lol
