Not actually that important
More or less what I expected for DQB although my idea was that it'd be more skewed towards Vita than it actually is, good PS4 numbers. Week 1 doesn't say a lot for this game tho, let's see if it got those Crafty legs before I can say good or bad thing about its 1st week.

WiiU freefalling back to 7k, but hey let's be honest it actually lasted way more than even the crazier positive projections could have led to predict and that duo definitely bought Nintendo some time for NX to happen.

Now, bearing in mind TP HD will be a sub 60k affaire, what's the next big WiiU title and when will it drop?

As I predicted, DQB is banking; I don't really understand why people were donwplaying the game sales so much: one of the most popular video game franchise in Japan + one of the most popular genre in nowadays market + Sony ecosystem. What's most surprising is perhaps the split, since PS4 version sold more than what I expected in terms of PSV/PS4 ratio.

Interesting to see a Minecraft clone, having a considerably worse debut than a Dynasty Warrior clone, considering the latter genre declined quite a lot in the past years, while Minecraft got very popular. And the fact that there akready is an already somewhat established Dragon Quest niche due to last years release.

Eh, IIRC Monsters is the only franchise with that track record, no?

If you are right, I was thinking about the ports/remakes on DS and 3DS, probably.
But among DQ Heroes near to the million mark (I think?), the ports/remakes of the old chapters and the Monster spinoffs I'd say that my point still stands, or not?

And I repeat, I'm not donwtoning DQB results, it's just that to me it was pretty obvious to see a godo debut.

well Minecraft sold well on Vita because of the legs. If DQB has a good word of mouth, it will easily outsell DQH

Who would have thought .. popular IP sells on said platform and helps sell said platform. You here that Capcom!

A top 10 that's almost entirely new games? I guess there's a few heartbeats left in japan after all.

It's a little disappointing that Wii U has pretty much returned to pre Splatoon hardware levels, but Mario Tennis had a great opening week software wise.

Seems to be something that people who already had the system bought, given it didn't hold up the hardware sales. A shame to see Wii U solidly back below 10k, and its gonna be that way for a while, given Twilight Princess doesn't appear until March (if that'll even do anything).

That Vita jump though.

Minecraft is the definition of legs so we have to see how it holds. Dinasty warriors games on the other hand are very frontloaded (and the first game of a franchise spin off usually sells the most, see One Piece Pirate Warriors) so not really surprising imo.

I don't expect fantastic legs on Builders. Word of mouth seems great, but I think the high(er) price (than Minecraft) + lack of multi-player + seeming lack of post-launch support will hurt it. PSV/PS4 split doesn't surprise me. One of those platforms has/is getting 5 Dragon Quest games. The other has 2.

Well I see your point but SE themselves running out of stock so quickly shows that they weren't expecting it to sell that much (and budget went into the project doesn't look that high either).

Decent debut for DQB considering the doom and gloom around the game before its launch. Vita also got nice boost from limited edition and PS4 also saw decent boost. As a side note Rainbow Six is having pretty good legs on PS4 (not that the total sales are that high though).

I don't get why people see DQB debut SO solid. It did well, but DQ spinoffs sell very well in Japan, Minecraft is a million seller on Vita, and Sony platform tend to sell third party games. Plus, this was the first DQ game on a Sony portable platform...ever?

Please, note that I'm not downtoning the good numbers, but I'd say that a good start (it is around 370k combining three consoles, right?) was a lock, wasnt't it?

Many DQ spinoffs are even able to become million sellers in Japan, Minecraft is among the most popular games, etc...etc...

Am I wrong?

I know that there were doubts about pricing and multiplayer, but those two aspects will, eventually, impact its "legs", not the debut.

Just because it has a name of a IP, it doesn't mean it will sell to all its fans. It's not a "normal" DQ game. Other spin-offs are much more inline with the original.
And Minecraft LTD sales are so high thanks to its legs as well, not because of first week performance.

I don't think anyone here is saying they're much higher than anyone expected, but you couldn't expect much more than that imo for a game like this.

Surely this is more important as it still takes into account those negative factors.

Yeah, I always forget about the price, but they got away with selling a building game for ¥5,800/7,800.
Granted it's not strictly a Minecraft clone, but still.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time Splatoon isn't in the Top 10. But considering it didn't drop much from last week, maybe it'll be in again next week.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. Feels like it's been ages since we were used to see that kind of results in a weekly basis.

I knew you would find a way!!!!

The fuck is with that price tag for DQ builders, that's ridiculous. I thought IF this game comes to Europe it would be £10 at the maximum. Unless it's a case of SE having their fans bend over big time in Japan and they adjust price accordingly in EU since most care not for DQ here.

Don't know why I'm thinking about this game, after how heroes did I doubt this game even leaves Japan.

It's not just about being a clone, don't forget Heroes is a fanservice-y game which is a big part of the charm of these Musou cross overs while Builders has to stand on it's own feet as a crafting game.

Dragon Quest Builders debuted 5x higher than the last Dragon Quest spinoff, so I would say that Square Enix is probably happy.

the 'number of systems' argument as a diminishing factor is always amusing. The games launch in those 2/3 system because the ecosystem and tools have been put in place for that to happen. It's a good thing for both devs and consumers, not a burden that needs double or triple the sales vs a single platform to succeed.

To be fair, you could sell a cheap cancer cure that works, and you'd still get your reviews bombed on Amazon JP.
(I don't know a thing about Mario Tennis)

Think of a good game. Now think of a bad game. Mario Tennis is the bad game, not the good one.

Oh right, I forgot the first Heroes wasn't on Vita. So the PS4 not only has the mainline series coming to it but already has a fanbase that the Vita doesn't. Makes more sense that they're so close now.
