Actually, DS3 is March in Japan.

Games that could make a dent on PS4 for the foreseeable future:

February :
Naruto UNS 4
Valkyria Chronicles
Street Fighter V
Attack on Titan

March :
Gundam Breaker 3
Dark Souls 3
Star Ocean 5

April :
Uncharted 4

May :
Dragon Quest Heroes 2

Edit: and I do mean "make a dent", I don't know how many of these will open at 100k+. I guess DS3 and DQH2 will, no idea about the rest.

I'm positive that SO5 will open at 100k+.

I would not be surprised if Street Fighter V does even worse. The traditional fighting game genre isn't exactly going in the positive direction in Japan.

Right now I wouldn't be surprised if it opened lower than Mario Tennis, but it does seem like it will actually be beaten by Pokken of all things. Of course, pre-order (COMG) scaling may be off between the titles to a significant degree but I feel (and this is actually true of the west) that SFV is going by and dangerously close to release without even the smallest semblance of mindshare gaining or forward traction.

I'm positive that SO5 will open at 100k+.

That should be a given unless SO4 killed the franchise.

[360] Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 166,027
[PS3] Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 84,882

Slight difference: Toukiden bombed in the West and the genre is not much popular outside MH. SF and Naruto are well-established properties in Western countries.
Being open world I think Toukiden will be more like Dragons Dogma than an hunting game though. Koei is eyeing the money is leaving on the table.

If not, say goodbye to the IP. SO4 opened at 166k on Xbox 360 in Japan.

I forget exactly what interview it was, but it definitely sounded like Star Ocean 6 was contingent on Star Ocean 5 doing well overall as opposed to being an IP they would continue with regardless.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
wow

vita is a monster

Vita means life? Vita means life.

Just looking at the Dragon Quest numbers before scrolling down I knew it was gonna be a bump for Vita. I just didnt expect THAT much.

Sony/DQB domination
Wii U below 10k and Splatoon out of the top 10(still impressive sales).

What?? Wow. Well it did take what an entire year for it to finally happen?

I wonder if the hardcore SF fans in Japan just going to get it on DD.
If we trust capcom you only going to need this version for next few years .

They did the major patch so Amazon upped the retail price, and it is still selling :D

yes, but the game keeps selling even if you can find a lot of used copies into shops, so it's not so dramatic as it was believed after the first days

also it already passed Gundam Breaker 2, which was considered a good result

I mean, it has been a waste of potential due to BN errors, but also it has not been the awful bomba someone talked/hoped

What are de DD numbers in the west?

The base game appears to be at 1.3 million shipped worldwide prior to the PC version. It did 470K of that in Japan.

The "series" is listed as doing 2.4 million, so that would seem to put Dark Arisen at 1.1 million, but it's not listed in Capcom's million sellers. Dark Arisen is at 210K in Japan.

The game later did 220K on PC so far, which I'm assuming are Western sales, or at least "outside of Japan" sales.

Both Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir and Dragon Quest Builders sold most on Vita. I wonder if the lack of Vita version for Star Ocean 5 and Persona 5 will have an impact on their sales...

Then I don't understand the comment from Pennywise83 since it sold twice in the west than in Japan.

Sell almost a million outside Japan is not popular? I mean each entry (vanilla game and expansion).

Why is KT making a PS3 version of Toukiden 2? Who is that for?

I would guess Japan or maybe emerging markets. I'm not sure Japanese publishers expected the PS3 to fall off as """fast""" as it did.

It's probably not a hard port for them though given a Vita version exists, so they figured why not keep it.

P5 will very likely have a portable version later, like the previous two entries in the series.

Then still targeting to Japan because DD didn't succeed in the West as it did in Japan.
Yes, but the lack of success of DD in the west was not so much to do with the lack of appeal of the genre in the west.
I think the pc version is doing pretty good too? I definitely think that there is space for success in the west for a more combat focused open world game, and Toukiden 2 seems to be that.

DD sold that "much" in Western countries because of price cuts; the game debuted dat 92k in first month NPD (and it shipped 1m in the first month worldwide - guess how the remaining units were sold). 470k units in Japan were sold at full price, instead. The game didn't succeed in the West as it did in Japan also considering the different market sizes. It's not that hard.

As days pass I see more and more Attack on Titan opening closer to Arslan than Hyrule.

I honestly don't know what are the reasons behind the total lack of hype around the title, we talked about it earlier but it definitely should have been a 500k+ potential seller.

It still looks better than Arslan, has a Vita SKU and the IP is way more popular, so I can't see it opening lower than Hyrule though.

The lack of Comgnet preorder numbers is probably due to the multiple SKU (6?).

I think the PS4 definitely has a shot at overtaking the WiiU this year.
Yes now that the Splatoon boost is mostly over, ps4 should sell a lot more on a weekly basis. Wii U also doesn't have much hardware pushing software left.

There was no PS3 version of the first game, so they're having to set things up for the first time here. I'm not sure if KT still publishes games on PS3 in South East Asia anymore either. I know Bandai Namco, Sega and Square Enix seem to have ditched it.

Then we could say the same with MH4 in the west? They sold 1 million in many months.

SO5 probably isn't worth porting to Vita. It's almost guaranteed to be a shit port. The game is no visual slouch. I'm sure if they could port it to Vita in an acceptable form, they would.

About what I expected for DQB, PS4/Vita split seems pretty typical.
It would be nice if it had legs, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. The game isn't Minecraft, nor is it priced like Minecraft.

Nope. 1m shipment announcement came in mid-April, two months after its release. The game sold 290k units in its first month in NA alone (eShop & retail) so it's totally believable the game sold its first million at full (or close-to-full) price.

Dragon's Dogma shipped 1m in the first month and sold 92k in its first month in NA alone (retail).

PS3 was more successful in Europe than NA so ... what's your point without all the picture? We can't rely only on NPD numbers to compare data.

I think the PS4 definitely has a shot at overtaking the WiiU this year.

I agree. The Splatoon boost is ending and no more updates or new levels/weapons coming. I personally feel they should have spread updates over a longer period instead of doing an update/weapon per week that is now over. But either way, the game has been in the top 10 for almost a year and it could still have a few more weeks left in it. Have to see if any more bounces will happen.

Mario & Sonic and Twilight Princess HD are the only ones I think you're missing.

Edit:

Well, I guess "Zelda" could cover both.
Oh yeah, TPHD.

I'm not familiar with Mario and Sonic though. What are the expectations for it? Is it more of a filler title to bulk up the lineup?

Maybe the rumored Paper Mario.
That would fit well with the other types of titles they've been putting out, so certainly plausible.

Once upon a time it was a gigantic series.

Now it's a useless garbage heap.

It's kind of like Sonic console/handheld games in general.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms' sales are double the previous entry. Koei Tecmo should be pleased.

DQB and Uta no Prince-Sama far beyond YSO predictions. Clearly a positive surprise.
