With how bad this looks, How much worse would the other concepts of been? the placemaker cover that sites have used since E3 were much better.

Sadly, they probably had much better artworks that were canned because they weren't dumb enough. They're obviously trying to be as simple and straightforward as possible. Nothing that can even remotely be out of the ordinary.

PS1 box art = best box art

I want Doom Guy on a lenticular lens cover.
This guy will always look straight into your face depening on the angle of your view on the cover. Like this kind of stuff

I would buy that edition. Make it a cardboard slip with a metal case that has rust effect and blood on it that just says DOOM.

That's kind of tacky.

Looks like Doom 3's box-art too, which is probably making me more uncomfortable than it should.

I didn't mind Doom 3's too much. It's all "rawr look at me so scares!" which I appreciate in a dumb way. It's not great, but not as bland as 4's.

Just because i'm on the road, please do a simple search of 'Doom BFG Dave Rapoza' to see how a cool Doom cover art could be.

Does the job for me. I mean let's be real here, it is Doom- you more or less know exactly what you're going to get, and the cover doesn't give you any illusions to the contrary. It's pretty honest, if nothing else.

Doom 3 is 12 years old, Doom 2 is 22 years old. Some in here make it sound like it's a big popular franchise that doesn't need publicity...

Yes.

There are two versions, the one with grey empty background and the one with Yharnam's street in the back. The former was received very negatively.

However they redeemed themselves afterwards.

But the GOTY edition boxart sucks.

I couldn't find a picture online with the worst part about the boxart is the ugly 10/10s so I had to take a photo of my copy.
The GoTY boxart should've just been the key art they used for Old Hunters.

But my mom won't let me buy it now that she can see there are demons and bloody violence in it. At least with the real cover I can tell her it's a space explorer shooting game. Man I am so grounded.

Shit... this is probably exactly what Bethesda marketing was thinking about, not scaring away parents of teens under the age rating.

I don't think this is true at all...it just rings of generic ass FPS cover. Where are the exposed arms? Where are the ripped abs? Why is he not blasting an enemy in the face with that shotgun?

I don't agree, but we're talking real subtle stuff here.

- He's much larger than a usual protagonist on a cover. He's huge, emphasising the iconic nature of the design.
- You can see his face through the mask, but you have to look closely - it's not obvious and no attention is drawn to it.
- His posture and expression suggest the sheer aggression, rather than straight up showing you it like in the original cover. This is more of a Mad Max: Fury Road approach - you have to look closer to see the depth.

I'm not going to defend the cover too much though - it's definitely not a particularly strong cover. I just don't dislike it as much as most here :)

Also, where the fuck is this guys neck?

Where you're as bad ass as he is you don't need a neck

Shit... this is probably exactly what Bethesda marketing was thinking about, not scaring away parents of teens under the age rating.

It's too bad this isn't first post because it's almost certainly true.

Sell a lot more copies with generic space marine-guy not looking at explosion to kids than a bunch of crazed demons ripping apart some poor fool

Either Bethesda don't care, or they care too much. Regardless, a pretty sad cover in my opinion.

Alright. Since you all requested new covers:
.
Feel free to print as you may please!

It'd be quite something if a large group of people went on social media and trolled everyone claiming "Hey, a new [title] was just announced!" with any of these edited covers attached.

What's really idiotic about this whole affair is the name. I hate it when companies do that. I don't care if it's a reboot. Calling it the same as the first game is not exactly search engine friendly. There is nothing wrong about adding a number or a year if you can't come up with a better subtitle.

So what gauge of shotgun is that? Way bigger than a 12. That's like a... 2 gauge or something exotic/impractical for a human to shoot off the shoulder.

We'll just call it Doom 2016 like Tomb Raider 2013.

I dunno, I think it's fine. They probably could have been a bit more creative, but DOOM has always been about playing as an angry, burly space marine in green armor shooting things in the face. In that sense, it gets the job done.
