Just about done with The Witness. Then Firewatch tomorrow, and I'll be checking Unravel out right afterward. What a week!

Took a gamble on this and bought before reviews were out. Can't wait to play it, it seems right up my alley. Kind of an LBP + Ori and the Blind Forest mismash and Uncharted-quality visuals. Hope it's good!

Looks about right based on the demo. The graphics and gameplay are solid, but the tone of the game is very manipulative and I could see people docking the game for that. It's very try-hard from a presentation standpoint.

EDIT: Hmm... also seems short too.

Divisive review scores continue to be a big thing this gen!

I'm not bothered by the reviews, the trial bowled me over enough to preorder the full game.

100 - 55 is quite a spread, especially when most publications review scores seem to start at 5 and work from there, rather than 5 being average.

2 100s
7 in the 90s
11 in the 80s
6 in the 70s
2 in the 60s
1 in the 50s

Even with the '7 or below means its shit!!!!' joke in regard to game reviews, it's still doing well.

NEGATIVES

-Poorly executed narrative.
-Frustrating puzzle design.
-Foreground and background blend into one another, causing confusion.

WTF?? o_O

Honestly, I wasn't expecting such high scores. Even after seeing these scores i'm left uninterested. I hope this title sells very well and big publishers and devs rely on these kinds of smaller games more and less on microtransactions in their bigger titles.

The game dev looked so so happy and nervous at the past E3 presenting the game, it was a very nice moment. And the game looks incredible. I'm very much getting this, I'm happy it's being well received.

Opening post says our (EGM) score is a 65, when it's an 85 (8.5 to be precise).

Metacritic goofed on putting in our score, it seems.

Had a look through the Destructoid's review writer. She seems to be a pretty generous reviewer (Gave Among The Sleep an 8, SOMA a 9 and Broken Age: Act 2 an 8) and doesn't seem to review that often? Her review history is so bizarre and sporadic. She didn't really explain in her review why it deserved a 10, well it didn't feel like she did to me.

I personally think it's a solid set of scores, but, these days it seems that if a game doesn't do solid 8's across the board it's not worth considering, at least until a sale or what not.

This was my point about many publications scores starting at 5, rather than 5 being a solid average score.

Was really looking forward to it, but holy batman at the wide spectrum of reviews.
Gonna have to do a lot of reading on this one...

Somewhat curious about this one. I didn't really warm to Yarny back in the original announcement, but the real-worldness looked quite nice; trouble is, it may - unfairly - be in the same bit of my brain as Little Big Planet, and that may do it no favours.

I'm intrigued but not sure if I'm willing to jump in right away, I love the style but I rarely dig the puzzle platformer side of the genre as much as most reviewers seem to which often has me leaving a playthrough some critically acclaimed download titles from last gen that specialised in that area making me think "well it was fine but that's it?".
Does sound like they've mixed in some more traditional platforming pieces in between puzzles here though so that's good, and I love them grounding all the platforms and mechanisms with a sense of place.

I'm not fan of those blurred backgrounds, but I will give this game a chance anyway.
You can turn the depth of field off (atleast in the PC version, not sure about console, but probably there as well).
This thread shows me why it's good not to care about reviews... Because I'd be confused!
Yup, this.

Pre-ordered it once it was available and enjoyed the two trial stages on Origin Access. Fantastic style and music, a little lacking in terms of gameplay fluidity but we'll see how this works out in the grand scheme tomorrow :)

very wide spectrum of scores. I intend to pick this up at some point so hopefully it will cater to my preferences ;)

I played the early release on EA Access last week and really liked it. I got a Journey vibe from it. Not that it was good as Journey but it looked incredible and it had a heart felt soul to it. A game experience that will vary depending on your emotions at the time you play it. I think that is why you see the varying scores so far. There are some that play Journey and shrug their shoulders because they don't get the praise. Then there are others that were completely engrossed and blown away by it. I think Unravel will be this way as well. I'm definitely going to be checking it out!
