Added these titles to the OP today:
  • The Cave
  • The Fall
  • Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
  • Knytt Underground
  • The Swindle

Question to the "1001 Spikes" owners: has Nicalis provided a fix for the bugs that were introduced in the off-TV patch yet?

OP, I think you should mention OlliOlli's awesome soundtrack. And you'll get a 3DS download for free.

yea crossbuy should be mentioned!

Same goes for Squids Odyssey. That game has cross-buy in EU.

Subbed, love me some Nindies.

I've been eyeing Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams lately. I saw there was a physical edition on Wii U and I'm a sucker for physical indies, so I'm hoping to pick it up soon.

I will add Minecraft as well, even if it's debatable if the Wii U version would exist without MS entering the scene.

Shovel Knight is there.
Definitely debateable, but cheers for that.

I'm an idiot regards Shovel Knight, and only checked as far back as the alphabetical section when looking for games you might have missed. Apologies.

Most anticipated indie is RIVE after paying that awesome demo.

Wow! I started playing this today, and it's REALLY good. Very tight and clever puzzle design.

I will absolutely add this to the OP in the next update!

Blocks That Matter, their previous game (on PC) was also really really good.

I think it's helpful to add *Wii U exclusive* next to the game. I know for me, I'd rather play indies on pc since it's cheaper.

then you also need to add a "definitive version" kinda thing since that would misrepresent multiplatform titles such as Stealth Inc 2 (which was a former exclusive) which lack several features in their "regular" versions.

Another recommendation...even if it doesn't make it to the main post.

Pure Chess
Well done game, stunning visuals, asynchronous multiplayer with iOS, Android, 3DS versions. Good variety and options (music, background, pieces), solo and local games too...and great use of both screens. Price: $7.99

I was kind of surprised how fun Level 22: Gary's Misadventures is. It's very much like a late 80s PC stealth game. It's a game to play for the light-weight fun though, rather than for the stealth challenge.

Yea that one is on my radar, gonna grab that soon.

This thread feels like the Nintendo Downloads thread opened a branch on the Gaming side again. Big thanks to the mods for allowing this as a way to draw attention to what is, already now, a great selection and awesome highlighter for some very overlooked games on the Wii U eshop!

Do you think you will add indicators as to which eshop regions have these games released yet, or are you keeping this North America based for simplicity's sake?

Anyway, subbed to the thread. I hope more people find Little Inferno and Lone Survivor this way!

I think it should be mentioned that Nano Assault Neo's local 2 player mode gives each player their own screen.

Which of these games are available on the Japanese region Wii U? I'd like to have more downloaded games, but most of the Western Indies don't seem to make it over here :(

Seems like quite a few are available actually, and many of these have been added to the Japanese eShop just these last few months:
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/software/list.html

Some games have different titles in Japan. "Affordable Space Adventure" is called "U-Explore Space Adventures" in Japan. "Ittle Dew" seems to use a Japanese-only title.

I'll see if I can fix this in the next update to the OT! All current OT titles are available on the NoA eShop, all except "Sportsball" are available on the NoE eShop.

Well I bought a bunch of indies during the Christmas sale, and they were all multiplats so I checked some Steam reviews to see which games I should buy - turned out quite a few of them were cheaper than the Steam versions, also on sale at the time.

I like to think I have a lot of Wii U games but this thread proves me wrong; still missing a ton of great ones.

Color me both surprised and subscribed, gonna have to keep an eye on some of these that I'm missing to see if they go on a sale eventually.

Was Typoman any good? I notice it's not on your list. I thought it seemed cute and clever based on the demo, but I never got around to buying it, and I haven't really heard anything about it.

I second this. Really loved the demo at PAX, so any thoughts from someone who has played the full game?

What a fantastic resource for indie games on the Wii U! Thank you for putting this together and adding in the updates. Found a bunch of great looking games to check out.

Typoman was good. I enjoyed it. Had a few small issues that annoyed me, like jumping over large distances was hard. But I heard a recent patch improved things.

Too many overhyped games IMO. Scram Kitty, Mighty Switch Force, Gianna Sisters, Toki Tori 2+... if i could just ask my money back, i would.

Toki Tori 1 was miles better. X-type+ is the best €1.99 (or about) i ever spent. There are real gems in the indie line-up, but some of them really aren't that great and really overhyped here on GAF.

* Guacamelee

** Shovel Knight

*** Shantae (plays better on the 3DS)

Runner up: Mutant Mudds

Honestly, Guacamelee is one of my most favourite games of all time. It is great, and highly underrated. Highly, highly recommended.

Edit: FreezeME looks amazing!!! I hope it's as good as the trailer shows

It's okay to be brutally wrong sometimes :D

I've now added these titles to the OT as well:

  • EDGE
  • Tetrobot and Co.
  • RUSH
  • Extreme Exorcism
  • Pure Chess

In addition, below each screen shot I've added which of the NA/EU/JP eShops the game is available for. Let me know if you spot any mistakes!

I think it should be mentioned that Nano Assault Neo's local 2 player mode gives each player their own screen.

I added this as well. Thanks!

SCRAM KITTY

SCRAM KITTY

Here is my pathetic LTTP thread from last year.

Honestly, one of the most fun indie games I've ever played. It was pretty much perfect. Easily worth $10 (even though I paid $5) and the amount of levels was just right.

A game that's pretty much pure, addictive, somewhat-challenging gameplay. It doesn't overstay its welcome.

Highly recommended, and I'm a real stickler for games these days.

Too many overhyped games IMO. Scram Kitty
Where's the overhype? If anything, the game was severely underappreciated.

Are 6180 of you arriving on the Wii U? :)

But seriously, this dual-screen mechanics makes it a totally different game than on the other systems.

We are legion, for we are many!

The irony of the name and me posting about it totally slipped by me! :D

The Wii U certainly pulls its weight with indies. I just wish Nintendo implemented a cross-buy/cross-save program like Sony's. They could at least do it for VC titles, if nothing else. Between that and their weak-ass sales I'll buy the game on my PS4 over my Wii U whenever possible.

The eShop fully supports cross-buy. It's on the developers/publishers to make use of it. Simple fact is, not many games release on both 3DS and Wii U to begin with. It's usually an either/or scenario.

Scram Kitty even though it's not an exclusive anymore and dispite thinking the game played fine even before the big update that "tweeked" the gameplay. It's a challenging and innovative platforming shooter with a great soundtrack.

Typoman has some issues with its platforming (be perfect or die!) but when that game is firing on all cylinders it SINGS like few others I've played. The style of the game is fantastic and some of the enemies and the oppressive atmosphere they create are astonishing. It's too short, has some real bug problems, and I legitimately hate the ending (changing the R to a P would've been so much stronger than adding the P to the other letters and would've made the title and the rest of the game more meaningful) but there is a core of raw genius in there.

Human Resource Machine also needs to be on that list, it's like SpaceChem but a little easier to get into and comprehend.

Did you play it before or after the recent patch?
