All North America releases.

I wasn't clear huh? My exact words were: "Nintendo NX is definitely launching in 2016 and Zelda NX will be a launch window release, so it could either launch on NX or release shortly after the release of the NX. Either way Nintendo is trying to release Zelda Wii U and Zelda NX at the same time period for the holiday season 2016"

*I have PM'd Bishoptl all the evidence he needs to know exactly who my source is. I await his response*

I want to give a very special thanks to my source, this individual has been so cooperative and helpful through this entire situation since last week. I wouldn't be surprised if there was still any doubts left that they would provide dental records to boot LOL.

All jokes aside, THANK YOU!!!!
But if how the others are interpreting your report is to be believed, your source never specified which form factor is coming first.

You should have expected doubt with positive nintendo news, man. Its the way it works here.

Mannn I swear if Bishop Don Juan come in here and confirm Zelda and console launching this year "Based off your source" Id be geeky. I dont care about deductive speculation, I dont care if it was right ALL I care about is CONFIRMATIONS

But if how the others are interpreting your report is to be believed, your source never specified which form factor is coming first.
Yeah, even if the NX is a handheld and a console (separately) and the NX handheld comes out this year and the NX console next year with Zelda the source would still be right.
Being a bit too vague doesn't help much, and the minecraft collab was already mentioned/announced

But if how the others are interpreting your report is to be believed, your source never specified which form factor is coming first.

Yes that is true, my source does not know 100% which form factor is being released first in North America, however it is heavily pointing to it being a console (at least first) in their opinion.

Basically for this holiday 2016:

Good bye and swan song for Wii U

Stay Strong 3DS, nice job

Say hello to NX (be it the handheld or console)

So speculation by my source and myself are:

Since there is no real home console support for the second half of 2016, the Nintendo NX is most likely going to be released in North America as a home console. The 3DS is going to have a great holiday with a lot of support by Nintendo, resources by Nintendo are doubtful to go in supporting two handheld devices with nothing for console fans. Logically all this points to the NX being a home console and the vast majority of mainline Zelda games are for consoles. The budget for Zelda is very high, so Nintendo hopes to capitalize on the money spent on this game with the cross release on the Nintendo NX.

His source is kimishima himself. He wants news to get out that NX is coming this year but has to sneak it out without the board approval. I'm on to you Kimishima!

Can you glean anything about zelda itself?

I'm sorry I'm catching up with this thread, but looks like we are working under the assumption that there are two versions of the NX. One handheld and one console? Obviously that's been the speculation, but I'm kind of excited about this as a parent who plays handheld games nowadays.

I am conflicted about which one I want to launch first. I would love a new nintendo handheld (and hopefully it is backwards compatible with 3DS). I am going to be deep into the dragon quest games this year plus whatever else they have slated for 3DS this year and I doubt I would bite on a handheld NX if it was not backwards compatible.

If the console launches this year with Zelda on launch day, I will be buying it the moment it releases.

Honestly even confirmation of what we've already figured out is pretty good to me. It's better to know that than to know we were setting ourselves up for disappointment.

Nice work Trev. Hope Bish confirms you're 100% in the clear, but considering how confident you are I'm gonna side with you and your source.

Ugh, I was really hoping to see the NX handheld this year. The only good thing about holding it back until 2017 is the possibility of having better hardware in there so that PSBone-class games can run on it better (still at low settings, obviously).

I half see this as a controlled and intentional leak. The fact that its even being posted and allowed to be posted so openly makes it appear dubious to me, especially since we know Nintendo ninjas are abound (and Treehouse and, probably, other higher-ups at NoA read these forums).

Not that I care seeing as how every company does this.

That said, this would seem to add veracity to the idea of Pokemon Z launching end of year rather than the next gen. That would give the 3DS an excellent holiday/year along with MHX, MHStories in Japan, and YW3 in Japan, and almost all of it would be either well towards completion or third party meaning that Nintendo's development resources are/can be spent elsewhere.

What about the idea of switched launch dates?

EU/Americas: Console 2016 / Handheld early 2017
Japan: Handheld 2016 / Console early 2017

Isn't that a possibility too?

It'd be cool if it launched this year in Japan and was region free. Then it could just be imported.

I have a feeling if it really is a staggered launch, it's going to be like the N3DS which was staggered to mainly meet the demands of different markets.

Considering how consoles are pretty much dominant in NA, whereas handhelds rule in Japan... even if the idea is unified games (to an extent), then holding one off till later still makes sense since they can simply be marketed as "deluxe" or "lite" models.

Just thought of something, what if Nintendo release NX handheld first in Japan then home later, but release NX home in US/EU first then handheld.
That would makes more sense if they are aiming to launch it this holiday as the handheld market in Japan is stronger meanwhile the West is more interested by the home console.

If this promotional poster is to be believed then this part of SuperMetalDave rumor is true about Mario and Sonic at the olympic games

Japan has even less of a reason to swap out the 3DS this year given its upcoming line-up. Nintendo may also be interested in trying to undercut/undermine the PS4 in the home sphere in an attempt to pick-up some of the third party titles that have long remained exclusive and they can only really do that, for whatever its worth, with a console.

Of course, the home sphere in Japan is such a trainwreck that there may not be much reason to do such a thing. Or they want to position the NX home and the 3DS (under their account system) as the go to place to play DQXI and other titles that they have coming.

Oh hey wow. Apparently this is from the New York Toy Fair? Things just got interesting.

Also, WOW at the year-long delay for Fire and Ice. In a way I actually respect that a lot. Though it makes me wonder if there's anything else in store for Sonic on handhelds :S

I guess it could be September and then anniversary game in November/December.

Booo i want the portable first ugghhhhhh

The problem is that were just guesses.

Edit: beaten
But the rumors feel super vague.
It also includes news that was already announced but also vague so he can't be wrong.
There's not much to it outside of "Nintendo at one point wanted to release Something refered to as NX this year".
I guess it's better than nothing

I'm craving a new home console from Nintendo with great launch games so the rumor about that happening this year sounds great to me!

I disagree. Having zelda NX being confirmed for this year along with an NX console or handheld is big news to me. Props to trev

While I love Galaxy as much as the next person, I'd also like to see Nintendo try different things with Mario.
I think a good idea would be what they did with Super Mario World 2 and make it a spin off based on the new character (Rosalina Galaxy)
Allows them to experiment not being held back by the license.
They've seemingly been building her up with Smash, 3D World, and more.
It allows them to make a new installment whenever they want and I think they'll get props for making a new franchise star a female protagonist.

That would actually be pretty interesting. I love the Galaxy games very much as well, but I'm always open to seeing what new concepts they can come up with for a Mario game. As far as the link and quote I posted, I just wanted to remind everyone that the idea of a Galaxy 3 isn't out of the realm of possibility. ;)

Yep. We actually were the ones to report it first I think (NE used the F&I article as one source).

I was waiting for mod approval before making the thread (it's now up) about including my article in the thread, as I wrote the Rio Wii U bit. :)

The Sonic news is likely more interesting.
It probably means that there's no anniversary Sonic game coming to 3DS so most likely NX or nothing.

I think he said launch window? And did he say that you'll be able to play Zelda U on NX this year?

Rosalina Galaxy is probably the most sure i am that a game that's never been teased actually exists.
I hope they do it and keep experimenting with Mario

What's really important here is whether Monster Hunter XG will be on it...and whether there's a Zelda 30th anniversary edition of the console.
Pullllleeeeeze Nintendo make it so.

Considering Nintendo pretty much has the dedicated handheld market on lock, leaving only an ultra-competitive console market in NA and EU, it makes sense to prioritize the home console for those markets if it comes down to a decision like that. And Zelda is a more appealing launch title to those markets on a console than a handheld, I'd think, given the success of big-budget, open-world console games.

Eh, it better be the console. Zelda U needs to be in 1080p as soon as possible

This could be in line with what Aounuma or Miyamoto said about needing a powerful console to create the Zelda U they wanted. I can see a Wii U version at 720p 30fps, and a NX version at 1080p 60fps (or something like that).

Heh, imagine a world where whatever Nintendo comes up with saves consoles in Japan and catches fire in a way VR never will with casual social gamers. VR lingers as a niche product for a decade mostly for business, medical, education, and porn until the cost comes down and people have been exposed to it long enough to care. I almost wish there was more than half a percent chance of it happening just to revisit the last 2 years worth of threads around here.

My ideal good launch line-up:

NX Console (for the west in 2016):

- Zelda U
- Smash Bros 4 (can't call it "for NX" as that will conflict with Smash 5)
- Sonic 25th Anniversary game (Sonic Adventure 3 please? :( )
- Mario & Sonic Rio Olympics (nice to get that also as an extra Sonic game at launch, plus that one is published by Nintendo anyway)
- Raving Rabbids (an actual one, not spin-off like Rabbids Land)
- Batman: Arkham Knight "Armored Edition" (if we're getting one full recent AAA game, that'd be a good pick maybe)
- Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition (it'd be a budget release like on PS4 and XBO, giving it a great edge and it'd be 100% polished and complete this time)
- Tekken 7
- Call of Duty 2016 (I doubt Activision will miss a launch, sadly this will be IW's game :/)
-
Crash Bandicoot game (if Sony doesn't have exclusivity on it)

NX Handheld (for Japan in 2016):

- Monster Hunter XG/Monster Hunter Stories (better the former I think, the latter can be Spring 2017 with the anime still airing)
- Yo-Kai Watch 3
- Etrian Odyssey 5
- Tales of Berseria/Tales of Vesperia (R)
- Warriors game (Hyrule Warriors?)
- Something from Marvelous? Too soon for Story of Seasons now.
- Phantasy Star Nova (hey, I can dream can't it?)
- Hatsune Miku (mirai or something new, Nendoroid or not)

Those are just general predictions, with only a couple crazy hopes. :p

Zelda U might not even be coming to NX. They have like two other teams working on Zelda and there's never a game too far behind. Ever thought of that?

At this point unfortunately I think it'd be a waste to only release it for Wii U when so much time has gone into it. And I think in the past at least there's only been one console Zelda team at Nintendo, and 1-2 HH teams.

ETA: Hero of Legend, you only expect 2 first party games at launch with both being ports? No Mario?

Nintendo never announced the NX was coming out this year and Zelda NX was definitely never confirmed by Nintendo. So you are saying speculation was confirmed then?

Also, I would love to see a link to where Nintendo announced DLC or extra content for Minecraft Wii U edition. If it was speculated, that's totally different :)

Wasn't it in the announcement PR?

About Minecraft Nintendo Character I.P. for the Wii U edition??? I googled it and can't find anything. If anyone has that let me know, otherwise like I said that is new information that was provided to me from my source at Nintendo.
Might be based on this PR here:

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mojang’s video game phenomenon Minecraft launches worldwide on Nintendo’s Wii U home console on Dec. 17. Minecraft: Wii U Edition comes with multiple add-on content packs, and will be available in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U in North America for $29.99. Nintendo and Mojang are also collaborating on new content for Nintendo fans to be released at a future date. More details about this content will be released at a later time.

The game will feature off-TV play, so players can keep their games going on the screen of the Wii U GamePad controller if another family member wants to watch something else on TV. The game also comes with some of the most popular current Minecraft add-on content packs:

Battle & Beasts Skin Pack
Battle & Beasts 2 Skin Pack
Natural Texture Pack
City Texture Pack
Fantasy Texture Pack
Festive Mash-up Pack
“With so many included add-on content packs, Minecraft: Wii U Edition brings an exciting collection of Minecraft content and experiences to Nintendo fans,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Wii U players will have plenty of reasons to keep coming back to this iconic gaming experience.”

In addition to the content that comes with the game, players will also be able to expand their experience with 16 additional add-on packs available for purchase within the Nintendo eShop at launch:

1. Festive Skin Pack
2. The Simpsons Skin Pack
3. Doctor Who Skins Volume 1
4. Doctor Who Skins Volume 2
5. Star Wars Classic Skin Pack
6. Star Wars Rebels Skin Pack
7. Star Wars Prequel Skin Pack
8. Mass Effect Mash-up Pack
9. Skyrim Mash-up Pack
10. Plastic Texture Pack
11. Candy Texture Pack
12. Cartoon Texture Pack
13. Steampunk Texture Pack
14. Pattern Texture Pack
15. Greek Mythology Mash-up Pack
16. Halloween 2015 Mash-up Pack
More add-on packs will also be available for the game in the future.

It dont outright say it but still

No they don't. They have a portable team and a console team, not 3 teams.
Console Zelda games take a long ass time to make, around 4-5 years.
Wii U's successor is announced and it still hasn't had its new Zelda game
