I knew he was legit from the getgo.

I also knew and believe he won't share anything too exciting but anything is welcome and he is gracious as he doesn't play games with his dissemination of the news.

Yeah, that's the thing, and I entirely agree with you.

Continuing the dig, I did find a source that listed Disney Art Academy back on February 5. I doubt that this source is just sharing all his documents every time he gets them, but again, it actually speaks volumes that this information WAS out that long. I just did this searching during a lunch break, and again, far more obscure things get tracked down than this and made into a deal. There's just nothing really to "gain" from it and I think it adds more towards the validity of this information.

What we know so far about Disney Art Academy with sources

Well, it depends on launch time (which is why I referenced a clock starting) and die size. Basically, for a small die SoC (i.e. for the handheld) it would likely be expensive, but not impossibly expensive, to launch at 14nm late this year. For a large-die SoC (i.e. for the home console) it would be extremely unlikely that a 14nm chip would be affordable this year, but would become plausible if the launch was mid-2017 or later.

Hmmmm, very interesting! Thank you for the reply!

Nahhhh guys don't worry about me! :D I don't get offended by some anonymous user on the Internet but it was quite sad to be honest.

I only visit sales threads (mostly Media Create threads) and I like the community there (the ones that put numbers or well formed opinions). So I had the info and I hinted at the games asking what sales potential could have a direct Pokemon sequel on a system in its way out. It sounded crazy so I was pushed and in the end I said something along the lines "Pokemon Black and White 2 will be released for NDS :p" and got mocked more!!! hahaha (but all in good fun).

Anyway, some users were asking for bans and things like that so I thought "when this is confirmed I'm not giving anymore info" and so was it.

Is a pity because here on GAF there're several good posters who I'd love to read their opinions on things that I could say but now I'll keep it to myself and I'll read speculations until everything is confirmed :)

Hahaha ok, that was funny :D

Orgen, please hang out in this thread. Here's what you can do. Whenever something is speculated or mentioned, give us a "mmhm...." That's all you have to do! We'll debate around you and keep you in the clear!

good to see another art academy title. I'd like that series to be one that Nintendo brings to mobile - could be great on ipad with pencil support.

That would actually be a great little idea. I'm wondering if (via Bluetooth) you could use an iPad to connect to the NX and use it as a controller for things such as this? (Pie in the sky, but who knows?) Art Academy is pretty cool!

His source is already dead. A corpse will be found in a few weeks, horrible slaughtered and a big N will be cut with a spoon in his chest.

Guys I appreciate all your enthusiasm, but for now can you please hold off on the PM messages? I keep thinking it's Bishoptl when I see the notification and then I see it is just another question that could have been asked here.

Again to be clear, my contact does not know anything about game details, how they look or how they play. Release information time frames only with names and codenames. If details are found out about certain games, and if they want to reveal that to me, I am sure I will share. As a Nintendo fan for 30 years, if I do find out what the secret behind the NX is, I doubt I would want to spoil what could be a major moment and surprise from Nintendo just because I didn't want to wait a couple more months (again not sure when Nintendo will reveal it) for Nintendo to do it.

My source from Nintendo wants to be clear also that the overall main reason for revealing this information to you guys was to mainly accomplish two things:

1: To cancel all doubts to Nintendo fans that the Nintendo NX is coming in 2016 and not 2017.

2: That Zelda Wii U will in fact also be releasing on the Nintendo NX in 2016 as a Launch game or a Launch window for this holiday.

My source loves you guys and could see that the lack of communication about NX was (in their opinion and mine) causing more harm at this point than good. If you disagree with what they did in overstepping a company decision, that is fine, for me I think they did the moral and human thing when caring this much about the fans and the future of their favorite gaming company.

The rest of this information that I have been sharing is to help validate points 1 and 2 as being the truth since you guys will be able to see that information unfold as time moves forward. Being validated by Bishoptl will be great for the here and now so we can move past questions of validation and just discuss the information.

Wait where did this come from? I went a few pages back and couldn't find any info.

Exactly.
With just one game for wiiu, heavily rumored to be paper mario, and no actual indication of it among the rumored 3ds games, being it officially announced and near completion, we can assume it will be for nx

A lot of respect for sharing this info, I think we're all starved to know anything about Nintendo's 2016 lineup and NX details.

Zelda NX is all I really need to know. I'd like to find out the rest at an official reveal. Then why do I keep visiting this thread? Because I can't bloody help myself.

Who says it'll be portable???
Most likely started its life as a Wii U game if Miyamoto said it was almost done a few months ago.
I can see a lot of Wii U projects being turned into NX portable+console titles
Also, art academy has me thinking, how will Nintendo bring miiverse drawing and games like art academy to the new portable/console?
I'd certainly hope they start using modern touch screen functionality but losing that would be a shame

I can say when I had a Nintendo website of my own (with a staff of 40...at age 14 ;___;) I would have plotzed for any such rumor. When we did rumor columns I just conjectured and made things up. I did get to interview Don Bluth, though.
40 staff at the age of 14? Damn. Are you a mafioso, Max?

;-)

I kind of see this leaker's point. For the small percentage of fans who said "I'll wait for Zelda" to pick up a Wii U, it would be pretty crappy to shell out $300 on a system and then realize it's coming to NX around the same time, and presumably upgraded. There will be a seemingly short period of time between unveil and launch and Wii U is still fairly expensive compared to past systems when they are replaced.

The NX is a console only.

Mobile is their new portable strategy with occasional support of 3DS.

Embrace your console overlords and get used to touchscreen Pokemon only you filthy peasants!

I think, compounded on top of this, after last year's E3 there's definitely been a strong impression that we've already been exposed to all the major games we're ever going to see for Wii U before it's eclipsed by NX.

Most people have already read between the lines and assumed that this means Nintendo's already focusing on NX anyway. With how little information we've gotten up to this point, I can see why someone within NoA would feel antsy about making people feel assured that there's really something to look forward to in the pretty near future.

This would be pretty awesome tbh. But it will never happen because amiibo.

I can see how someone involved in marketing and publicity might want it out there that the console is coming this year, and that Zelda's going to be out with it- undeniably beyond his paygrade, but whatever.

However, if you're revealing the full confidential 3DS lineup, and including exact marketing figures along with it... that's stepping beyond that brief into hugely sensitive and damaging areas, no?

I actually had this theory a while back when Nintendo used "NX & Mobile" for their future respective to "Wii U & 3DS" as their past. But at the same time, Nintendo handhelds still make Nintendo the most money of their hardware, so I doubt that Nintendo would be so eager to cut that cash flow off right now.

Handheld gaming is dead bro in all but Japan. Look at those declining 3DS sales. It'll be NX and mobile in the future. RIP handhelds.

Is your source also a member on neogaf? Is he/she maybe also in this topic? :)

Most development happens in Japan, wonder if this source lives in US or Japan

Nintendo is going to pick and choose what franchises head over to mobile, and which exclusively sustain their dedicated game hardware. Tomodachi Collection is the first successful and semi-iconic franchise being reshifted to Mobile. Others like Brain-Age are likely candidates to also make the shift, while others like Animal Crossing will probably stay dedicated gaming machine exclusive, even though it would be much more profitable on mobile with that ginormous userbase.

Handhelds from Nintendo still sell. 3DS sales are declining because the platform is on its last legs. A new handheld would help reignite interest in Nintendo's stable of handhelds, especially since Nintendo (for the most part) is a bit of an outlier of the decline of dedicated gaming handhelds (probably due to their exclusives.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic. It's hard to tell here on GAF.

Question Trev, have you heard anything about Sonic on NX?
He seems to only know about Wii U & 3DS games that Nintendo will have a hand in advertising. The absence of the other Sonic games probably means that Sega will handle the advertising for the 25th Anniversary game.

No.

"You guys" means the fans.
Makes sense. Anyway, since your source is in marketing, did he/she hear about any Nintendo Directs coming in the near future (preferably before E3) to detail Nintendo's plans for the 3DS & Wii U before they blow their load on the NX Platform?

The leaker leaked. It was his decision. Only thing I'm interested in is the credibility of the leak (and the leak itself obviously) and don't really care about his motivations. Leaks are facts and speak by themself but what a person says about his motivation is less... reliable and meaningfull to the discussion. That said, good luck to him with the ninjas.

I was being sarcastic, yes.

I think I'm starting to lean more towards the A53 being the CPUs of choice across the board. At least 4 of them in the handheld and 8 in the console at around 1ghz for the HH and 2.0 for the console.

The GPU on the console side I think will be a customized Cape Verde GPU. Namely an R9 M275x which is about 1.1TF and the handheld a customized M230 or 255 which is about 500GFlops

Given the AC titles recently it could easily spread itself around both. I don't think many franchises will go exclusively mobile outside of touch generations style, mostly they are going to have to come up with new game designs based around their characters.

Those massive Wii/DS titles like brain age, Wii Fit, and Nintendogs that failed to make an impact on 3DS and Wii U will probably make their way to mobile.
A f2p Nintendogs with micro transactions for clothes would probably do pretty well

Full AC games on dedicated hardware with spinoffs like Happy Home Designer on mobile would make sense.

A lot of respect for sharing this info, I think we're all starved to know anything about Nintendo's 2016 lineup and NX details.

Starved? We know Nintendo's early 2016 lineup until March and some of early April. They always reveal their lineup up until that point, and then we get announcements in March about late Spring and early Summer releases. E3 covers beyond that. Are people starving for PS4 and X1's 2016 lineup? Beyond UC4, Sony hasn't dated a major release for the remainder of the year. MS hasn't dated anything beyond Quantum Break. No one is starved for release information for other titles, because they know it'll come at or around E3.

No one should be starved for NX information. People are becoming too impatient over stuff and causing wild speculation based on no evidence and sending expectations to the heavens. The reality of NX is simply that Nintendo is working on new hardware.

And another thing, I think Nintendo might not use discs or carts but NFC readers that scan a code that is tied to your Nintendo account permanently. You may get the option to remove the licence from your account and it would be way cheaper to manufacture. It's essentially amiibo cards but with download codes on it. Which may upset physical collectors, resellers, or people who don't want to download games.

The cards might come in a pretty little vita-like game case with cover art but inside is just a cardboard card with an NFC chip in the middle that the consoles will scan, attach the licence to, and automatically download the game. That would satisfy the physical collectors and retailers but again, this is Might upset people with shitty internet connections or bandwidth caps.

I'm pretty sure the chips In amiibos and cards can't hold entire 25GB worth of data.

Mobile is the place for expanded audience titles: games like Brain Age, which are for people who don't really play video games and will likely never develop much of an interest in doing so. I don't think NX/mobile will match with the console/handheld split, because the audience that left for mobile was on the 3DS and Wii, and passed over the 3DS and Wii U.

Is that feasible? I thought NFC was mostly used for payment.

No NFC are pretty small for now, still measured in KB I think? The chip needs to be pretty simple due to it solely being powered by radio waves, which I'm guessing means it can't transmit data at super fast speeds.

I did some of my own patent trawling a while back and found something about nfc & games, not sure I can find it again.

amiibo uses NFC, which is standard on hundreds of millions of mobile devices.

Things like Apple Pay and Android pay use NFC for payment. It can do more than just that, as evidenced by amiibo.

Woops. Yeah, I need to pay more attention to what my smart phone can actually do besides texting my wife and checking gaf.

Just did the research. Amiibo uses 8kb of data which is wactuslly the highest and most expensive, since the standard is 4kb or less. It costs around $2 for 4kb NFC tags but that's way too much data to write a game code and some executable instructions to attach the code to a NNID and download the game. It's blu Ray levels of cheap with less damage possibilities, easier and faster to manufacture, and no moving parts or proprietary cartridges.

You could see future special editions where game codes are in special addition amiibo's instead of a game case coming with it.

The source said that they can admit to being from marketing only because so much of Nintendo of America is marketing. I'm not sure if it tells us too specificly what area they're in.

But your solution would still require the NX devices to have an internet connection, which wouldn't end well for Nintendo (see the Xbox One before its launch).

Xbox problems was having to be online at least once every 24 hours, not being able to buy used games or share them. The NX would just need a connection to download a game once and then could be played offline.
