I wouldn't mind a Sun and Moon Gen 7 that has story intertwined with Kalos because of all the new region teases in X and Y. Or Gen 6.5.
I'm excited and hoping for new Pokemon.
I still want a mainline game on NX next year since this is 99% 3DS.
If this is Gen 7, you're going to wait much longer for an NX game.

How is the 3ds ancient or dead hardware? The successor isn't even announced yet. And it will take a good two years for Nx to come into its own.

lol are you kidding.

The 3DS is utterly pathetic compared to stuff that was out in 2011 let alone today. The screen quality for a start, or how slow it runs? Seriously, it is outdated as fuck when you compare to even entry level phones or tablets, which you might say aren't competing with a dedicated games handheld but unfortunately that's where the majority of people do their handheld gaming these days.

Maybe dead was a little harsh but it's certainly on it's way out, everyone who wants one has pretty much got one, sales have slowed right down and the release schedule is very barren. There's Hyrule Warriors Legends, Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem in Europe (only just come out in the US tbf) and then presumably Pokemon, not exactly a thriving console.
If Sun and Moon are Gen 7 I find it to be ridiculous that GF, TPCi or Nintendo expect us to keep on playing it for another 3 years, it's mad.

What's the region with the huge confusing mountain in the center? That's the one I like the least.
Sinnoh.

I'd really like Gamefreak to surprise me by having Moon and Sun on NX as a launch title bit I doubt it. I was saying yesterday that there's no way they'd launch a new gen on 3DS and leave Nintendo's next handheld without a Pokemon game, but now I'm not sure, Gamefreak is not as predictable.

Sure that's what I think too, but if it is Gen 7 I wouldn't be surprised then if they moved a Gen across platforms.

Maybe they'll make the NX backwards compatible and give Sun/Moon some unique features only available on NX.

One of my big reasons for buying a 3DSXL was the bigger screen to play Pokemon Black on, so maybe they'll do the same thing.

I don't get how any one is hopeful this is NX. Youhope for a trailer for a game on hardware that isn't even announced? Ifs 5 minutes, they aren't announcing NX during this and that needs to happen before any game reveals for it.

Kanto is decent but I don't know why people get attached to it, there's nothing crazy about it
Gen 1 is iconic for its pokémons, not the region

Mt.Moon, Cerulean Cave, Power Plant, Cinnabar Island etc. are all extremely iconic. I guarantee more people remember those than they do most of the landmarks and locations from later generations.

Truth. Don't forget Lavender Town with it's music and Pokemon cemetery thing.

I did prefer going back to the region in Crystal and exploring it counter clockwise, that was a lot more fun.

I like to dream, I realize it will not come out for NX.

I'm interested to see if there's some smartphone app functionality with daily check-ins etc. The Pokémon Company is eager to try it I feel like.

I would go absolutely apeshit if they turned the Pokemon Day Care into a smartphone app that links to the game.
Imagine being able to breed and hatch your Mons on your phone without having to spend hours riding your bike in a circle ingame.
It could be tied to a pedometer and use your actual, real life steps, instead, or even just move to a time-based system.

because they grew up with it.
if you would swap regions of Gen1 with any other Gen, people would call those places the most iconic.

I think that it's certainly in its last year of major support but a mainline Pokemon game and the NX not even being out yet mean while it's "on its way out", its not nearly as close to its eminent end as you are seeing it to be. More worth it for TPC by far.

Gen 1 has the benefit of getting credit for basics that the other games don't, like literally defining what Pokemon looks and sounds like. So everything is iconic, in a way. Not just to the immediate audience that received it, but to the entire franchise.

That would certainly soften the blow and I could be a little more on board with that but I'd still feel like Gen 7 would be a Gen 5 situation where we have this new hardware out and not using it to it's full potential (I realise that BW came out 6 months before the 3DS in Japan, I'm talking about the two years that followed).

In all honesty I'd rather have another gap year and wait for Sun and Moon to come out on the NX.

But if Sun/Moon are Gen 6 then I'll gladly stop my bitching

I'd like a better StreetPass function.

Should be able to put some Pokémon in a box and have it auto-trade with passers by. It would be like Wonder Trade, but more personal.

Both of those are bad ideas and could already be done on 3ds if they had wanted to do them.

Do you have any reason they're bad ideas, or do you just shoot down any ideas that you didn't come up with?
I'm absolutely tired of breeding and hatching meaning spending hours hunched over the handheld riding the bike around in circles.

It's incredibly archaic, but, more than that, it's the worst sin a video game can commit: it's boring.

I'd like this to come out on NX, X and Y were already pushing the 3DS to its limits judging by the framerate in battles though I know that in all likelihood it'll be another 3DS gen because Game Freak.

It's probably Gen 6.5. I think gamefreak doesn't really care much about the "generation" definition anymore. This game may get a port for NX announced at E3. Regardless "true gen7 will prob be on NX"

I think these are 3DS games and I also think they're not going to introduce a new gen based on the X/Y engine, so my guess is S/M are like Black2/White2 in that they are more than just the expected Z version but still based on gen 6.

I think Sun and Moon will be 3DS games running on the XY engine. Adding Magearna and another legendary, and the South of Kalos. That's honestly all I expect. Any bonuses will be great.

The more I think about it, the more I expect this to be Gen 7 rather than a B2/W2 situation. When Pokemon Go was announced, they said it would connect with future main line games. Having a whole new gen for that makes sense. Plus I doubt that Pokemon revealed a few weeks ago will get patched into X/Y/OR/AS, especially if they couldn't be bothered to patch the new Mega Evolutions from OR/AS into X/Y.

Plus I don't really see a way Sun and Moon could relate to anything in X and Y, so I am doubting it being any kind of sequel.

Did they fix the framerate in ORAS?
Nope.

I dont think it will be NX related, but I wish it would. At this point, I just hope Nintendo is sucessful in the next generation. Gen 7 available at launch would surely help in that regard.

O really think it's odd that people would think this was a B2/W2 situation. Sure this is the first gen without a third(and/or fourth) game, but the timing adds up, last year would have been a year for a third game.

Hmm alright. Hopefully they'll take advantage of New 3DS and let it have a smoother framerate.

Btw, is Yveltal obtainable in ORAS? Maybe even both legendaries (Xerneas and Yvetal) ?

Nah, gotta be traded.

I'm absolutely tired of breeding and hatching meaning spending hours hunched over the handheld riding the bike around in circles.

Instead you'd rather be forced to wait real hours? Or go for a jog every time you wanted to hatch a Pokémon? (For that matter, this is probably the one thing worse than a game being boring, the only way to progress being to turn the game off and stop playing until some arbitrary time later).

Also if you were literally going in circles you were doing it wrong. Every daycare has a very long straight path with no grass alongside it for you to bike back and forth along for a reason.

Pokémon breeding is boring I agree. Don't bother doing it if you aren't one of those people who somehow finds enjoyment in that sort of boring repetitive task. Why you would spend your time playing videogames doing that if you don't enjoy it at all is beyond me.

It's just hope that we're not going to be stuck with a whole new gen on 3DS hardware.

It's really hard to 'fix' the framerate given that the Pokemon models are too advanced for 3DS to handle.
I seem to remember using home brew to force the game to use the clock speed of the N3DS made the battles frame rate better.

Assuming they made the games N3DS enhanced it would "fix" it.

But if Sun/Moon are Gen 7 then it's not just 'a mainline Pokemon game' that's a commitment of 3 years to a generation. Whether they pull a Gen 5 and don't give us DP remakes to accompany them, and instead another supplementary game, we're going to be in this weird situation of Gen 7 releasing games on a system that is already quite old in 2016, let alone 2017/18.

You can excuse it with Gen 5 for a couple reasons;
1. The DS was a huuuuuge success, Nintendo's most successful handheld ever. It had a long lifespan
2. Black and White came out 6 months before the 3DS in Japan, and a few weeks elsewhere.
3. We only had one pair of games that released on 'old hardware' with B2/W2 releasing Summer 2012 on the DS in Japan, around 18 months after the debut of the 3DS.

Let's just assume that a form of the NX is releasing this holiday (Nintendo is crazy if it isn't). This would put a timeline on games releasing something like this-
Fall 2016 - Sun and Moon release on the 3DS, the same time as the NX (maybe they have some exclusive features but all in all they are 3DS games). This means they are advertising games for an old platform the same time as a new one.
Fall 2017 - We maybe get DP remakes or some kind of supplementary game be it sequels or a third version
2018 - If 2017 wasn't a gap year then this is where they might take a break with a release of a game. That's only if we don't get 5 games - Sun/Moon, DP remakes and a third version
2019 - Seeing as Gens last 3 years minimum this would be the earliest we could expect a next gen Pokemon game. Are Nintendo really going to sit on this for that long, when they could have released a third version (assuming S/M aren't sixth gen) this year? Are they really going to want to keep the DS brand around that long when their naming conventions have caused them nothing but trouble this gen?

A lot of fuss over franchise I know, but this is Pokemon, their second biggest seller after Mario, this stuff matters to them. Pokemon moves consoles, and if they want NX to be a success then they need Pokemon on there quick.

EDIT - One other thing I forgot to mention is that the 3DS is their worst selling handheld, why on earth put 2 gens on that? GBA did way better than the 3DS and that only had one pair of new games, remakes and third version.

I don't care if it's on 3DS, but they need to fix the graphics, frame rate and 3D.

Not here for incompetence, especially now after having played Yo-kai Watch.

Well there is the 20th anniversary, and for that reason maybe they want something huge. S/M being a half-step in that's it's a new game but not really fits in line with Nintendo's 1st party strategy for 3DS in recent times where they make new games from established engines/assets. Can you really see them introduce a new set of starters, 100 new Pokemon and a brand new region, though?

Yes, Gen 5 happened and I don't think anyone was expecting that with the 3DS on the immediate horizon.

Nope.

Just FYI,

A few pages back there was a discussion on the sun and moon dials in XY that were never explained along with the giant crystal in Anistar City. There's also thr two revealed Zygarde cores that recharges in the sun. I feel like I'm forgetting more too

Info MaximumSpider provided several pages ago--so it sounds like there may be some X/Y link to Sun/Moon.

The giant Sundial was tied to Mega Stones, and there was also a Moondial mentioned by dialogue said to exist elsewhere. The Sundial also is in the XYZ anime's promo art.

That later support doesn't need to be on the 3ds though. They could release the 2nd set of Gen 7 games, if this is really Gen 7, for the NX already, rather than debuting with a new engine.

EDIT - One other thing I forgot to mention is that the 3DS is their worst selling handheld, why on earth put 2 gens on that? GBA did way better than the 3DS and that only had one pair of new games, remakes and third version.

If it is a new gen, maybe that's actually the reason they're doing this? Yes, this will cut the 6th gen and make it the worst selling one, but that's a rather meaningless distinction. From their point of view, if it really is a new Gen, they might just be looking at how a new Gen game would sell better than a sequel without new Pokemon or region.

Yeah I feel you I've actually been mentioning a few times I'm curious about the dev team because I feel like the timing leading up to Nx release makes it so we won't get a S2M2, and maybe this is the first attempt at a new gen by an alternate team.

In all likeliness though its probably as simple as GF and TPC making $$ so there will be another gen on 3ds and as many as possible on NX too and they're not worried about Nx install numbers and leaving it up to Nintendo until they decide to make the jump. I feel like we felt similarly when BW was announced, and in the end it just took forever for Pokemon to finally hit 3ds.

Yes, I would gladly trade hunching over my 3DS to hatch eggs 5 at a time on demand for a smartphone app that linked to the game and to Pokemon Bank where I could simply check in every hour or two to see what's hatched and whether I want to sent it to a Box/Bank or to release it.

And yes, there's a long straight line in front of the daycare in X/Y, but that just means I have to be hunched over the 3DS even more as I constantly run back and forth, instead of going to the Lumiose City center circle and just holding one direction down as the character rides around and around in a loop.

I find enjoyment in breeding Mons because of the end result, but the process itself is extremely dated and un-fun.

Ideas aren't "bad" just because they don't appeal to you.

Yeah I agree, and if it is a different dev team then I'm excited to see what they put out because I find their A team to be a little lacking in content, they do great groundwork but everything else feels a little lacking. I'd be open to a gen where it is just one pair of games and nothing more, if only so we can get to NX faster. I guess we'll find out in a few hours though.

Ideas aren't "bad" just because they don't appeal to you.

No, they're bad because your solution to the game is 'wait arbitrary amount of time'. That's not a better solution and it's worse than the current implementation. Therefore it's a bad idea.

If you really want to hatch them without the work, just hatch eggs while doing other stuff in game. They aren't going anywhere, and there's no rush to have to hatch them.

Maybe I don't see why you'd have any problem though because I just stop playing a game once the only thing left to do is boring, rather than run in circles or whatever you were doing.

The fact is you don't need a smartphone app or whatever to do what you're implying. The 3ds has a clock and pedometer anyway, if they wanted that to be how you get Pokémon hatched you could do it entirely in game/ on the 3ds anyway without needing a second device, so again, bad idea.
