Etrian Odyssey V (3DS) scheduled to release August 4, 2016 more info upcoming Famitsu

so nice to finally hear about this game after like 18 months. I've been waiting.

I'm having a hard time parsing out how I should feel with the comments about voices and classes. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the flow of the game is like. I didn't feel like EO4 allowed you to create a super-party but maybe I just didn't know any better.

Was hoping the next EO would borrow some of the neat details from PQ, namely on occasion seeing characters making an attack or opening a door.

Well, the stream is soon-ish.

Won't try to judge based on the one scan in op but seeing drawn portraits seems like the game will look very much the same to previous EO. Kinda strange his long details took to surface on this if EO5 is athestically similar to previous entries.

Looking at some pictures of the new battle screen, it looks like summons like the pets or whatever the necromancers have don't take up the 6th slot.

Looking forward to this, EO2U and the quality localization/va was one of my few "day ones" last year. I took longer to get to EOIV but it is now my primary downloaded game on the 3DS. Constantly returning to both to move a little further into the post-games.

Little more leaked. There isn't a single race skill; it's an entire set of racial passives, some tiered, and most of which are single-level skills. Fencer skillset also seems based around elemental chain and prediction/vision skills. Summoning also doesn't seem to use the sixth party slot, as one screen shows two aids in their own separate sections. Both only have HP bars, though; no TP.

EDIT: From what I can read, Aslan skillset includes fishing, analyze, double attack, magic heal, something about full power, and something about earth (ground).

Also, though the screenshot crops things slightly, it looks like there are 42 voice choices, with 21 per gender. You can see the choices are arranged in a something x 7 grid, but the numbers jump from 1 to 7 going down.

Director says he wants more table top rpg style events in dungeons too.

Squirrels! Squirrels e-ve-ry-where!

...I'll never forget the giant snowman event in EO2, where if you let it assemble to it's max size it collapses under it's own weight and you get exp with no fight. :)

FISHING CONFIRM

edit: Oh, the brown loli dancer (warlock?) is more covered than suggested in the initial pictures. Phew.

Oh man, things are more complicated now. The status screen is completely redesigned, and it shows that on top of the attack and defense stats being split into physical/magic, for four now, you now have strength, intelligence, vitality, wisdom, agility, and luck.

The physical/magic split is interesting. I wonder if we'll need to have physical and magical tanks now.

Also blonde mascot Fencer.

Edit: That Reaper looks awesome.

Yeah, maybe.

Also, party members can use team up to use Union Skills. Guess that's the new burst/limit equivalent?

So subclasses and Grimoires are out, with character race skills taking their place. This will make it easier to work out party builds in advance without having wait for subclassing to unlock or the right Grimoires to drop.

I'm expecting the NPCs will have a lot more voiced lines than the party. With so many different voice options, I wouldn't be surprised if they're mostly limited to grunts and battle cries instead of long lines of dialogue. All the cosmetic character customization options are a welcome addition, though.

It's all looking good so far.

Warlock appears to carry a magic coffin; Necromancer has something, too, but I can't figure out what it is. There's also at least four portrait options per class, as usual, but there's an additional arrow on the fencer page going to the right. Maybe for the other races? That'd mean that we have 160 (!) character portraits, so probably not.

Also, there's only 40 voice options. There's a mute option that spans two buttons.

I think it's a lightstaff?

Also that Necromancer outlewds Hexers. Never thought i'll see the day.

Edit: Holy shit those maptools. Looks like you can customize the icon tray by slotting in and out different icons.

Brani is the designated loli/shota race.

Also looks like programmable icon palettes for mapping?

Three enemies named: momonga (flying squirrel) and womu (toucan), and a hypogriff FOE. They also show a millipede FOE, but it's not named.

Moving away from subclassing (and grimoires thank christ) sounds pretty interesting.

The focus on voice acting is a little weird, not really the direction I wanted this series to go.

Looks very good, I'm excited.

No screen or link ? :(

I know this game will probably be one of the best JRPGs ever but I was expecting more after so much secrecy. EOV looks like your old and regular Etrian Odyssey game.

It's time for a change now. I feel like the character design is holding the series back. (see FE)

Digging the new character art, Shaman, Necromancer and Reaper looking really awesome.
Making the party seems more harder than ever before.

Can't say I agree. Shamans aside, the portrait quality is significantly better here than in IV, and it looks like there's tons being overhauled under and over the hood. It's not as immediate of a departure as P5 was out of the gate, but I think this is the next big step in the series.

Me too, and given the series high regard I think lots of the fans do.
I do agree EOV just looks completely like EOIV in almost every regard, more of the same, but if that's what the fans are fine with.. No reason to change.
Etrian Odyssey will probably evolve later, I doubt this is the last EO we see and when they change platforms you'd expect to see some kind of change, I just hope that the change isn't changing Himukai to someone else.

They already tried to evolve EO with the Untold games. Not that it was done well.

Anyway, we haven't seen anything about the game structure. We don't even know if it'll have an overworld like IV.

I mean, the way races works seperate from class is definitely different, and opens up a ton of customization options which is one of the best parts of the game

I just realised that I still haven't beat EOIV (despite loving it) and never beat EOIII. Only one I beat was 2. They're so haaard....

I will beat EOIV this year, I swear it.

Stil, I'm glad to see another EO game. At the very least we should get
a new slate of avatars that will end up getting people banned.

Agreed, I think making parties is the best part of these games.
But if you look at the gameplay pictures, it's definitely "Just EO". Not complaining though, as that's what I want more of.

Finally, we've been waiting for news on this game for so long, haha.

I'm a little sad that it looks like they are moving away from the amazing sub-classing system, but they've learned enough over the years that I believe the new classes won't be as dull as most of EOI/II's.
Though I also won't be surprised if class balance is all over the place. The team has gotten better with class balance, but that was with the addition of things like sub-classing. It will be harder to salvage a class without it, so hopefully they are very careful with each class's skillset.

I'd like to know if the music will be more like EOIV.

EOIV's soundtrack is SOOOOO GOOD. I've never felt such zen exploring dungeons before.
