When was this mentioned? All we know is that R/B/Y can only transfer directly into Sun & Moon, unless I've missed something.

Using Pokémon Bank, you'll be able to transfer Pokémon you've caught in the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow into your copy of Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. Pokémon from Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y can also be brought into Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon in the same way.

Hey Joe, I agree with you because of the first 3 reasons but do you have a link to the press release that says that it is a new gen? I totally missed that.

Newest Generation of Pokémon Core Series Games coming to Nintendo 3DS Late 2016
London—February 26, 2016— For 20 years, Pokémon has delighted millions of fans of all ages and has become one of the most successful entertainment brands in the world. During today’s Pokémon Direct presentation, Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, announced Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, the newest additions to a legendary series that has sold more than 275 million video games since the debut of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in 1996 for the Game Boy system in Japan. Developed by GAME FREAK inc., Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will be launching late 2016 exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and, for the first time, will offer Traditional and Simplified Chinese as language options.

“The Pokémon core series games are the centre of the Pokémon universe and provide some of the most memorable Pokémon moments for our fans,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of Consumer Marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “I can’t wait to see what fans think of the new adventures they’ll find in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.”

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will also have Pokémon Bank functionality. This online storage application will make it possible for fans to move Pokémon wirelessly from Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow, which come to the Virtual Console on Nintendo 3DS on February 27, to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Pokémon from Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y can also be transferred to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon through Pokémon Bank. More details about this exciting feature can be found here: Pokemon.co.uk/bank

I got hyped for .0001 micro-seconds when I immediately read the "No NX or mobile info" I understand about NX but why no mobile info when Miitomo is actually launching this month? Nintendo...

Looking forward for this Direct anyways. Not that hyped because really, what else they have left to show? Especially on Wii U. My bets:

- Paper Mario U reveal trailer. Carbon copy of Sticker Star but in HD. Meltdowns across the interwebz.

- More animu RPGs for 3DS (ugh)

- 10 minutes of Metroid Prime Federation Force and lot's of "screw you fans we do what we want despite the massive negative reception with this game. Here's your new Chibi-Samus amiibo wich is the only way to play with Samus on the actual game"

- Pokkén footage nothing exciting.

- Mario and Sonic at the Olympics footage. Megaton

- #FE footage nothing exciting only weirdness that only 5 people are gonna buy.

- New amiibo announced

-Star Fox Zero exciting trailer with a special message by Miyamoto at the end to announce it'll be delayed again.

- Peeeeeeeeeeerhaps a lil trailer for Zelda's 30th anniversary like they did with Mario last year and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe another 3 second teaser of Zelda U of Link running on the same old grassy field we have seen for two years now.

Hype...

You forgot Bravely Second footage for the americas.

The somewhat good news is that each Paper Mario are different, so you can't expect a Super Paper Mario or Paper Mario Sticker Star again.

Forgot about the Zelda U footage... but really it couldn't been from an earlier build and we'd be none the wiser.

If Pokemon was a generic AAA game that is supposed to release 2 years from now, then Concept Art + 3D Wireframes wouldn't be raising my eyebrows. But all things considered, that Pokemon Direct was suspect and I don't think we can close the door on potential shenanigans.
Or you guys are reading too much into it, especially given Game Freak's history of waiting to adopt new hardware. As stated earlier, if Sun/Moon was a cross-gen release, Trev would have been notified about it.

I reckon they'll give us a quick 10 seconds of Zelda WiiU, along with the game's official subtitle. That alone would send story speculation into overdrive. Boom, free marketing.

Seems about right. Probably the most exciting part will be seeing a glimpse of the last three Smash amiibos (Bayonetta, Corrin, and Cloud). Bayonetta will easily be the best amiibo.

Ill give you this

All the official press material and releases dont seem to be teasing any sort of cross gen leanings.

So hard to say. Winter 2016 is a ways off and Nintendo has a lot of announcements and tight lids on NX info.

Not going to discount my position entirely until info on the NX portable pops up

I think a subtitle would be important. Then we can stop calling it Zelda U despite the fact that everyone's gonna play it on NX.

What if there's no subtitle this time? It might just be The Legend of Zelda, to be forever known as Zelda 2016.

It depresses me how this series has gone to shit since the amazing TTYD. I'm ready to be disappointed again
It's going to be devastating when we find out it's Sticker Star 2. I want a great story and unique characters but the "Koopa Kids" do not give me hope. They'll probably take the plot with the Kooplings from the last 4 Mario games and put that into Paper form and call it a day.

I know what they said, yes I did read it, but I'd be shocked if NX wasn't mentioned. Even just a 'we'll be showing it at E3 but no news today.'

Your expectations are still way too high. They aren't going to mention it just like they didn't show gameplay footage of the new pokemon game they just announced at it's direct.

OK, here's some predictions I'm throwing out there, because I think this show is gonna be rather predictable thanks to the recent leaks:

  • On Wii U, we're gonna see Paper Mario revealed. Not a shocker, but I think this one will be top of the show, and frankly I'm expecting to be much in the vein of Sticker Star. Little emphasis on traditional RPG mechanics, lots of using the GamePad to fuck around with paper and stickers and stuff.
  • GIR#FE localisation. Probably out some time in June if I had to guess.
  • Star Fox Zero. Delaaaaaaaay. Arwing Amiibo, maybe?
  • The Legend of Zelda. I think this is very possible - we know it's on NX now, like that was a surprise, but I don't think showing footage now takes anything away from that console's reveal. It's still a Wii U game after all. We've got between now and E3 - unless Nintendo wants to position it (if not release it) entirely as an NX game, then it'll appear now. (Save the possibility of a separate Direct, but eh, it doesn't feel like the right time or game for that treatment.)
  • No Sun/Moon footage yet, but Pokken Tournament is probably gonna show, given that it's out in mere days.
  • Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. It's out in Japan, it's confirmed to release in June in Europe.
  • 3DS is pretty obvious now (thanks Trev). EU viewers get to belatedly see Yokai Watch and Fire Emblem Fates, US viewers get to see Bravely Second, everyone west of Japan gets to see Dragon Quest VII and VIII... They'll announce the Disney Magical World sequel.
  • Boxboy 2!
  • Picross 3D 2 is surely coming over. Surely. Do the right thing Nintendo. (Same for Rhythm Tengoku but I'm playing it safe with that one, sadly)
  • Sure would be nice to finally hear about an English release for Shin Megami Tensei IV Final!

On the more outlandish side of things...

  • Rhythm Heaven The Best + NINTENDO PLEASE
  • This is a pull out of thin-air, but it'd sure be nice to see something of Yooka-Laylee.
  • I would not be surprised at all to see something Sonic the Hedgehog-shaped show up here.
  • This is here just for history's sake, but hey - MOTHER 3 releasing on Wii U VC in English, next month, for the game's 10th anniversary. It's time.

As for no-shows - Pikmin 4 is probably NX-bound by this point, Monster Hunter X probably won't show for unknown reasons, and The Great Ace Attorney is never leaving Japan.

I was excited for a moment, but then they mention no info about the NX or even mobile. Doesn't matter what they announce, I doubt it'll be much that we don't know already. Definitely ready for some new information about the NX at this point. This will probably be the first Direct I don't watch at the time it airs.

Cool, wonder what they will announce/ show (hope for cloud/ bayonetta amiibo dates).

Also hope they announce when they plan to reveal the NX or at least dates they will reveal.

LET'S DO THIS

Christ, are we really having the Gen 6.5 discussion again?

The games have been referred to as a new generation.
New Pokémon have already been shown off.
Concept art has been shown with locales and areas resembling nothing in Kalos.
The names and logos bear no thematic relevance to anything in X and Y.

Considering that all we know is six seconds of concept art and a press release, that's a fairly overwhelming weight of evidence.

If it weren't for Z being dropped, absolutely no one would have any doubts that this was a new generation, and no counter-arguments have been made for 6.5 that can't be rebutted with "they initially planned to do Z, but the plans changed". I'm not going to say that Gen 6.5 is impossible, but there's no reason to believe that that's what we have here.

They will occasionally dedicate like 5 minutes to games that have been out for a month.

When there's new content being released for them, sure, but they're not going to go out of their way to do another 5 minutes on TP HD at this point.

I'm occupied with a few things right now so I cannot make a bingo card. But here's an updated template anyway, in case someone wants to make a card:

I can't say I'm honestly expecting too much but we are already getting quite a few heavy hitters:
#FE
Star Fox Zero
Zelda U
Pokken
Mario and Sonic at the Rio Olympics
Dragon Quest 7
Dragon Quest 8
Hyrule Warriors Legends
Pokemon Sun and Moon
Metroid Prime Federation Force
Shin Megami Tensei 4 Final
Kind of confirmed: Paper Mario wii u, Mother 3

I can see F-Zero getting announced for 3DS being based off F-Zero X and I can also see the Wii U getting a Kirby platformer, perhaps SNES Remix too.

Perhaps even Undertale will be announced for Wii U at the end of an indie reel. We know Terraria Wii U is debuting a trailer soon.
