Shadow of Mordor, Gears of War producer Michael Forgey has passed away

https://www.youcaring.com/michael-forgey-479259

Wednesday, May 20, 2015 after visiting the doctor for a migraine, Mike learned that he has a glioblastoma, a rare and highly aggressive form of cancer. Mike was rushed into emergency surgery, the doctors did everything they could surgically, but his primary tumor is inoperable. Mike has undergone radiation, and while involved in a clinical trial at Fred Hutch/UW underwent a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy. He is now looking into additional therapies. This process is mentally, physically, and emotionally grueling, but this has not stopped Mike’s unconquerable spirit and positive outlook.

If you worked with Mike on Shadow of Mordor, Gears of War I and II, Fable, Media Center, Zune, Conker, or Perfect Dark Zero you have experienced his positive energy, passion, and unfailing support. Mike has always been the first to volunteer, getting in earliest in the day and the last to leave at night. You know that he’s always been there when you needed him.

Just backstory from the page as well... Less than a year after diagnosis he passed. So very sad. Fuck cancer.

Thank you for everything, Mike. Though you're gone far too soon, you brought joy into the lives of millions. Rest in peace.

What are your guys' favourite memories with the games he worked on?

I truly enjoyed Gears of War + 2, Conker, Fable, etc... I think I'll have a drink in your name and play some Shadow of Mordor or, if I can find a copy to buy on PC, Viva Pinata this weekend.

If a thread has been made on this already, please close this.

Sad news and my thoughts to Michael's family / friends.

This is a reason to never take health for granted; things can suddenly happen so quickly and severly.

I had been out of gaming for years and then Gears of War caught my eye. This game single-handedly got me back into gaming.

Also: I know Shadow of Mordor was a divisive game but I loved it.

RIP.

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
Damn, he worked on some great games. I always thought Voodoo Vince was vastly underrated.

Rip.

Fucking terrible. I am lucky they caught my cancer early but I don't even know how I would react if everything happened that sudden. Fuck. RIP :/

FUCK CANCER.

That picture is incredibly sad. I obviously love the OG GeOW to bits and it's the man's first project as a producer from being in the QA team at MGS for the OG Xbox. He even went on work for UE? Damn. Thanks for your contributions, Mike. You'll always be remembered by us Gearheads.

R.I.P.

Condolences to his family and friends. Cancer is just pure evil. With all the research on Cancer we can all hope and pray for a breakthrough.

So sorry to hear this. Farewell and thank you, Mr. Forgey.

My wife recently battled cancer. We were/are very lucky, and she is now doing well.

Rest in peace. He produced some of the most exciting, cohesive, and well-made videogames of all time. Phenomenal work. I hope his family makes it through this difficult time.

I hope first or later we find a damn cure of this shit. I hate what it did to the people and their families. It's the incarnation of the evil.

FUCK YOU CANCER. MURDEROUS PIECE OF SHIT.

It's bittersweet to read the last couple of days he was at peace with loved ones. An amazing cv there, a great legacy to be a part of.

May he rest in peace and his loved ones find comfort.

And FUCK CANCER.

I researched Glioblastomas during my internship in a lab. It's incredibly difficult to treat because most chemotherapeutic agents can't get past the Blood Brain Barrier. The median survival time when diagnosed is ~14 months. My condolences to his loved ones.

Extremely sad but he worked on some amazing games I'll never forget. I hope his family can take this time to grieve in peace. :*(
