I never heard of this series, friend posted a link to it, I bought it.

A lovely tale. I have high hopes!

I'm so excited that you're all playing this. We've been working hard with Bombservice to get the game out. So glad to hear everyone is enjoying it!

It's been quite enjoyable so far, and I'm really glad you're coming in here to talk to us. :p

started Hard mode, game is really awesome so far. Just pure execution since you get 1 or 2 shotted. Each screen is pretty static without much rng, so you just memorize what's coming and execute. Hitting the next bell feels like a triumph. If it stays like this the whole way through, i'll be going door to door to tell people about this game.

edit: heavily resisted the souls comparisons originally, but the parallels are totally there with a few borrowed mechanics (regenerating healing item, namely.) It's all over the steam reviews as well. I think the game supplements its own style with them nicely. The influence is a big positive here.

Well, I updated the opening post but I've never made an OT and don't know what else could be featured (and honestly info is a bit light beyond what's already on the Steam page and the game's press kit). I can't find any reviews just yet either but I imagine those will start trickling in from smaller sites that check out indie games and I imagine eventually some of the larger sites since I've seen articles from Siliconera; Rock, Paper, Shotgun; and Destructoid. Once reviews come in I'll edit those in.

I'm game for OT subtitle suggestions because I can't think of anything catchy yet. And since there's been a mod in the thread I'm totally fine with them or another mod just editing it as they see fit.

Now time to play!

Edit: Ivan's above comment about Steam reviews reminded me to check there. Heh, "Dark Souls + Castlevania SOTN + Kawaii" would probably work for an OT title but when I was thinking of things like that earlier I wondered if developers enjoy having their game compared to other ones in a summary. But honestly it might be the best thing to draw people into the thread.

Edit #2: Alright, the OP is probably a bit messy now but it contains more info, kept my personal stuff so it's not entirely just me copying the Steam page, added the giveaway for some Momodora III codes to entice people, and that's pretty much it.

Going to probably end up starting from the first one, and working my way up to the latest one. Enjoyed the third one (Not finished with it yet).

Mecklemore Is My Favorite Wrapper
It's VERY 'Vania.

I've played for just over an hour and I have like nine different places I can go and five different places I can't go because the door opens from the other side or is locked with a key or mechanism I haven't found yet. There's a map screen and it looks quite a lot like the Symphony Of The Night one, stylewise.

There's also money and items you can buy or find, like one that lowers your chance to get inflicted with status ailments, and your typical Raise Max HP stat upgrades, which tend to be behind punchable walls. I haven't discovered meat inside walls yet, but here's hoping.

There's also a Dark Soulsy influence with the save points, which not only replenish your health, but also max out your healing items, initially to three but later to more as you get upgrades. Also, there's a greyed out Warp option so I guess there will be a teleport between save points functionality later.

Standard enemies are more brutal than bosses on average, but there's a fair few feisty bosses too in all shapes and sizes.

Beginner tip: Try not to fight everyone right at the beginning, the shield peoples in particular are brutal and will own you with their sick moves. Just jump and/or roll past them because you are puny at the start. I feel like I was bashing my head against a wall for the first ten minutes but once I overcame the hurdle of my OCD telling me to kill everything, progress came swiftly in all directions.

...and sold. Thanks mate

Well, I just finished it.

It's about 4 hours long. Solid experience.

Beautiful art style, amazing animations and some solid platforming.

I could have used a little more variation in both the enemies and the exploration, but for what it was I had a great time.

I just realized people who have already been in the thread once or have been posting wouldn't likely recheck the first post. So I'm bumping this just to have the raffle as the most recent post just to make sure people see it.

It's for Momodora III because it should work well to whet the appetite for folks and then when they want more they can grab this new game.

Fun game. I'm about 2 hours in and have
the cat power
and 2 of the 4 crystals which I assume will open the last area. Hoping to get the warp soon

sunk in a bunch more hours this morning and about to sink a whole bunch more.

I AM GETTING MY ASS KICKED. but I'm getting through it and loving it. Hard mode is real. It can all be chalked up to my impatience. 5 hours in and still haven't gotten the thing that lets me go into the small areas lol. I've done a fair bit of backtracking and experimenting though.

OP-- you can message a mod about changing the title to an OT and maybe put the giveaway in the title.

I had no idea this was out! Can't wait to play it. Sadly it'll have to wait for quite some time as I got other things on my plate, but... still! I hope it does well. Love the Momodora games.

I'm not familiar with this series but 4 looks interesting so I started from the beginning. Just finished the first game. It's definitely a bit rough but it's likable. Feels very much like a Cave Story fangame.

Part 2 is a lot better so far.

I'm running into a weird issue with both games where the action occasionally slows down, like there's too much stuff onscreen in an NES game. Only happens in fullscreen. Any fixes? Besides switching to windowed and back again. I hope it doesn't happen in the later games!

They get better by each game. Momo 3 and 4 are great ones

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
We're watching the thread for any feedback you may have about the game. Anything you think we should fix/update/add/improve, just let me know. I'll pass all feedback on to rdein.

Also, if you just wanna tell him you love the game, I can pass that on too. :)

Fix: No issues so far so I got none
Add: Some more enemy variety wouldn't hurt, Challenge Mode, Boss Rush Mode, Permadeath Difficulty (Maybe give a golden leaf or outfit to those who clear it)

I haven't finished the game yet so maybe some of that stuff gets unlocked later but the game is amazing. :p

Fix: Vsync

Add: fully customizable controls, death counter, a parry move (maybe, might be unbalanced), boss rush if it doesn't unlock already (haven't finished), as much extra content as possible i'll buy what ever :)

Any 21:9 support by chance? Games looks really good and will probably buy it either way. 21:9 support just seals the deal for me. It was great that Stardew Valley has support for it.

Just a question, do you really want to fullscreen a pixel based game? It's not even in 16:9 btw.

You can support it and not butcher how it is supposed to look. It's just giving an expanded view on everything. If you support 21:9 by stretching the pixels you've done something very wrong. I'll pick it up either way it's just disappointing to have massive black bars on an ultrawide screen.

Supporting drastically different aspect ratios in 2D games, especially a game like this, is not as trivial as you make it sound. It's much easier in a fully 3D game. Gotta accept that you'll have big black bars in a lot of games with a monitor like that.

Was wondering if this has different weapons and subweapons, or equipment/gear to use? Do you learn new attacks and powers?

Also I saw mentions of a NG+ mode. What does NG+ add/change/carry over? Mainly curious about replayability

You have the Leaf and the Bow and Arrows. You can find upgrades to your abilities as you go along. There are passive equip-able items, and active items that you have to select and use but they replenish at each save point. There are a few powers outside of these, but they're mostly difficult to obtain items with a certain condition to unlock. NG+ as far as I know lets you keep all your items (except a certain key story item) and removes almost all of your general upgrades (one you get to keep at least).

Just played for a few minutes, but man, the combat feels super tight. The dodge roll, seamless switching between melee and ranged, the heft of your attacks and the fluid smooth animations. Yeah, I'm going to enjoy this a lot

And the way the boss fights get more tricky and you need to dodge properly later on. It's a great ride so far.

Enk

makes good threads.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this pop up on my Steam list. I still need to finish up the last one as it was pretty damn fun from what I played.

I loooove this game so far. The combat and platforming feels great, but the biggest thing for me is the despairing atmosphere. I was not expecting the game to feel so... lonely. I love the sparse dialogue, minimalist music, and desolate world design. Basically, my only gripe so far is that I don't like that boss music - that snare sample, argh.

The music in the subterranean grave area, though... so cool!

Congratulations to the winners of the raffle! I hope you guys take in all that Momodora III has to offer, and later hit up RUtM when you're ready. ;)

Indeed. Hopefully they enjoy the game and then look into this new one which I think most would say improves upon the previous game in every way.

I took a page out of Ivan's book and finally started tonight and went to Hard Mode. But then checking the achievements I see there's one for beating it on Insane so I'm thinking maybe I should have done a Normal Mode run first and then I'm assuming Insane unlocks and then consider doing that. I guess insane would be mostly one hit kills? On Hard it's already two hits from most everything kills and a single hit from that first boss is instant death. Yikes.

It's good stuff and I look forward to seeing more. The first boss was easier than the enemies before it but I expect there'll be some rough spots coming along as I get further.

I do agree Vsync might be nice if that can be fixed since I spotted some tearing. In fact strangely the first screen or two seemed like they weren't smooth but then right away it seemed to fix itself and was fine after that. And maybe Steam is just being weird but it popped up the thing like I had someone watching me play suddenly and that never went away but when I checked the broadcast chat it never showed anyone come or go. Since broadcasting tends to cut my FPS down I'm not sure if something in the game prevented that from going away or Steam was being weird. I rarely get people jumping in to watch but I believe in the past once people stopped watching the record symbol went away and the performance would improve.

it's great to see this game getting the attention it deserves, it's a solid and amazing platformer.

at one point I made a few sprites for the game but they never got used, it's cool to feel like I could have helped with its development though and wish bombservice the best with this and any other games they make.

All right. I'm sold. I would be lying if I said I wasn't itching for something like this for a while. I even considered reinstalling Fortune Summoners and Valdis.

I just started playing Momodora 3 (thanks Wibblewozzer!) and am really enjoying it so far. Controls well (after I enabled the Steam Controller community profile for it), the gameplay is solid, and I love the art style and music as well as the quick pace.

If it keeps up I'll certainly get 4 right after.

Saw a webm of this and bought instantly. Getting killed a lot on normal but its pretty fun. I did notice tearing sometimes - guess I'll see if I can put in borderless window.

Anyone know how to actually get 1 & 2 to run? Extracted everything and ran exe. file but crashes and says I'm missing some music file.

Man, it feels like so much love and care went into this little gem. What a wonderful experience so far. I just love the feeling I get when hearing the music and exploring the little world. I hope the game does well for the developers.
