IGN leaks Overwatch releasing May 24th, pre-order for open beta early access

Sweet, I was just thinking that I'm actually really excited to see if this game can finally be the first next gen multiplayer game I "click" with. I gather it's a bit like TF2 but a fresh start, without hats and a lot of other baggage getting in the way of the teamwork. I'd really like this to work well on PS4.
Damn now that you mention it, while this in awesome when looked at as a consumer, looking at this as an enthusiast makes me cringe at how much some of these are gonna cannibalize the sales of others. Mirror's Edge, Valkyrie Chronicles Remaster, Battleborn and One Piece probably deserve better than to release on the same day as Uncharted 4, Doom and Overwatch. Obviously Battleborn and Overwatch are the most comparable, but that just means that poor Battleborn may be a non-starter from the beginning, since it is arguably aiming at the same demographic.
Overwatch appeals more to me anyways, so I'm part of the problem I guess, but it seems sad for Gearbox to be stacked against Blizzard here. I guess it's on them to convince me though.
Mirror's Edge seems most in danger from Uncharted 4 but the comparison isn't so easy as it is for Overwatch and Battleborn, so I guess that Mirror's Edge may be safe. Just hoping that game gets good sales so the IP continues, they're taking a risk with restarting the IP.
One Piece and Valkyria Chronicles wouldn't be expected to be huge hitters anyways but it's still too bad they are releasing on such a busy day.
Doom and Uncharted 4 are pretty much guaranteed hits so no reason to worry about them imo.

I had a lot of fun last year during one of the beta weekends, so I imagine I'll probably pre-order it in due time. Plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime, luckily.

I'm lucky that none of that interests me.
DkS3 in April, this in May, (hopefully) Stellaris around here, and Legion in July.
They really need to tell us what we can expect for online functionality vs the PC version. With Diablo never getting seasons I'm wondering if this will be missing anything
My exact thought because the beta is not yet there and it will take another couple of months so yeah aug/sept is most likely...

To be fair other than balance changes, the beta right now is as polished as any release product.

Not even Star Wars could cripple PSN so I doubt Overwatch would cause any problems.

The ui is still kind of a mess (try figuring out your sentry health, or the status of your portal the first match or two while running around a fire fight) and there definitely could be more modes or maps.

Ranked mm yes dedicated servers yes, custom maps probably not. I believe it's going to be battle net exclusive on pc, so you can't really mod it.
No community servers, but the private game options are pretty robust.
No modding/mapmaking at launch but they're absolutely not opposed to the idea. It just takes a lot of work making a relative user friendly SDK with middleware and licenses issue sorted out at the same time and implementing it as well.
And yeah, Ranked is coming, either in beta or shortly after launch. But it's one of their main priorities now.
You can dislike something while simultaneously not partaking in it. There's nothing particularly heinous about voicing one's distaste of something, you don't have to take it as an affront to your person.
Considering Legion is STILL in alpha and betas typically last at least 6 months when it comes to expansions, I'd have figured this was a known thing sadly.

This is my game of the year 2016 so far, will be there day1 and far beyond. It's the only shooter I've managed to play online for more than a week in years.
