Windows 10 Store |OT| Games for Windows

I swear i hope people's memories arent THAT bad after GFWL. Avoid this shit like the plague.

I'm wary, but at the same time with Microsoft moving towards a more unified platform it gives me confidence that they will get it where it needs to be. They want Xbox to not be tied to just a console, and if they were to abandon the PC store they'd be back at square one, and it would completely undermine the entire vision they seem to have for platform unification. I also think they know they couldn't get away with another GFWL-style debacle. It's rough right now, but i'm pretty confident it won't be another GFWL. That being said i'm going to wait for it to get some issues ironed out before I use it. I hope they make progress before QB.

Also, where does it store your save data? And does it have cloud saving like Steam?

All data will be stored in C:\Users\{userName}\AppData\Local\Packages\{packageName}. Where obviously packageName is the name of the app/game you want. Cloud saving is supported, but I don't think it's mandatory.

Huh. Well here's something, looks like you can still freely edit config ini's, so no need to worry about that.

Scalebound, come to me.

We'll see if I end up buying much from the Win 10 store. But some of these previously thought XB1 exclusive titles coming to Win10 is incredible to me, even with some of the limitations. Really happy about it.

Anyone else think that the fact that patches take for fucking ever to release should be in the OP? I think Tomb Raider lags behind like three patches at this point.

If at any point patches need to come out quick because a game ships outright broken you will have a bad fucking time with the W10 store version.

Made an extremely niche workaround but still want to share. Maybe will be useful for someone else. Tested on two pc's so far.

Probably the easiest method right now to add Windows Store apps to Steam. If i am wrong please share your findings. I don't think this tool will affect performance or anything since process consumes 0% cpu and 1.5mb ram on my machine. Tool updates every 500ms in background while game is running and don't think it's a problem, if it is please let me know and i will try to fix it.

Yes it was possible to convert .bat file which launches link to executable and add it to steam, but steam client will show that you using app only for a second after launch since application you launched immediately closes. This brings problems to Big Picture mode, for example when you using gamepad in game menu you will also navigate big picture mode in background which is absolutely terrible.

There is a readme file in archive. But basically you add executable from archive to steam as a non-Steam game and set launch parameters to AppID from Windows Store. There is a separate text file with a few id's and instructions in readme file about how to find them for other apps.

There is an issue with Big Picture mode related to Guide button on controllers. Obviously since overlays are not supported, steam is not able to hook to application. All you wiil do by pressing guide button in game is bring focus to bp mode, that is a huge problem since you will navigate both game and bp with single input command from controller. I added workaround for that, not sure how good it is but it works for me. If you accidentally( or want to check steam store or chat for example ) press guide button ingame you can simply Alt+Tab if you press and hold for ~0.5 seconds Back + Start + Left Trigger button combination on gamepad( Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers, other XInput devices should work too... i think ). Repeat to get back to game( focus will be again on the game window and double input problem should disappear ).

Here is the link to the program. If someone will try it please let me know if it works or not for you.

With the demise of Fable Legends what are the AAA games supposed to attract demanding PC gamers to the store ? Surely Microsoft will not stop at their current line up.

most likely not, this just looks to be the first wave. i dont see any reason why most, if not all of their first party games won't make it to PC at some point

I don't think Fable Legends was all that attractive.

Honestly rumored to be in the lineup are all future first party games and some older ones..most notable Master Chief Collection

If Spencer is serious about this and their all in statements about MS being 'the Windows company' are true then I'm pretty sure everything from Xbox will be coming to Win10. That's my prediction anyway. Maybe some of them will be in more F2P form (like Apex).

Wait, is Cuphead W-store exclusive? Fuck!

Well... I guess I'll enjoy the games coming in while they last, before Microsoft decides this venture isn't worth it and stops bringing games to PC at all. Hey, it happened with GFWL, and I doubt their intentions are much different.

I don't think Apex is going to be representative of MS's PC efforts at all, Apex is meant to be a test. Releasing second grade versions is not good no matter how you look at it if the Xbox One sku is more feature complete.

So I don't think we will see "Apex" versions of major AAA Xbox games on Windows 10. Either the full product or nothing, Microsoft can't afford anything else than big guns if they want their PC walled garden to gather momentum.

Don't forget, MS isn't just trying to get buy in from PC gamers, they're also trying to appeal to people who've made Asphalt a success. I think we'll see more of both.

Good luck with that. Inferior versions are destined to fail, rightly so.

Gears 4 GI cover has been revealed, sadly no PC news at all so this one is not coming it seems. I question the point of bringing the UE in the first place then.

Oh well.

The way I see it is, so long as this Windows 10 store brings me games that I want, and more or less can't get from anywhere else - unless, of course, I opt to just buy it on my Xbox One that is - then I'm fine with the restrictions listed in the OP, with the exception of forced Vsync. Third party peripheral issues will get worked on, I can't see SLI and Crossfire not being fixed, if it isn't already. And are we sure borderless full screen mode is preventing the game from properly utilizing your PC's full hardware resources? This is, after all, DirectX 12 we are dealing with now. Maybe things work differently.

I don't have any issue with playing a PC game with some of the same restrictions you might see on console as long as the game looks and performs as good as possible on my rig. Notice I say some? Because all the same restrictions that we have come to expect in the console space certainly do not apply so far, even in this early stage of UWP.

I can see more stripped down, free to play "apex" games on the store front, at least for now. I'd guess they're trying to give the store a bigger install base by way of making what are effectively premium-quality mobile games. Mobile games without the mobile hardware limits, basically.

oh look, one more great little thing to add to the "advantages" of this great store

4QdgEia.png

that looks to me like a denovo related error message, it hops on the back of steam or winstore to authenticate but obviously couldn't at that time looking at the image

theres plenty of reasons to be wary of winstore, but denuvo is not exclusive to it

Gears will probably do well.
I think not.
Barely over 500 reviews and most are complaining about performance.
And this is for a updated port of a 10 year old game selling at only $19.99
Meanwhile over on Steam The Division (a $60+ game) already has 430K users and over 10,000 reviews!

Can you go into your purchase history and download it again?

No, I'm in the same situation. Microsoft keeps saying they are working on it...since last year. I tried to ask for a refund in the form of credit to spend on their store or a Steam key for games I own also present on Steam, like Fable 3. They deny any form of compensation.
So the juice is, I gave Microsoft my money for games and DLCs, I can't download any of them.

"Can you still download games that are delisted from PSN?". "I think" doesn't help me.

Too many eager beavers in MS threads.

Yes you can, with a couple of exceptions (like PT and another Vita game I can't remember the name).

Each region has separate reviews i believe, but yeah i am sure it bombed hard lol. Could not find any online games after a day or two after launch. Not sure how it is right now since i am waiting for patches.

Yep you are right.
Looking at the UK store I can see a WHOPPING 213 reviews!
I'd love to know the full sales!

I don't think reviews on Windows Store are a good metric yet since unlike Steam, I bet most people don't use it that often so aren't reminded to review. That said, I doubt a remake of a game in a store with little visibility with PC gamers just yet set the world on fire either way.

Ok so I tried adding Project cars from my Steam library to the Xbox app which works fine after adding Project cars to the start menu.

However how on earth do I get the Xbox app media bar to work with the game? I don't see a way of taking a snap shot and adding it to my Xbox news feed.

You probably have to use windowed/borderless windowed display mode instead of exclusive fullscreen..... yeah

Btw i tried to launch GeoW without internet and it works fine.

2k at most.
Maybe a bit optimistic.

I would not be surprised at all to find out the PC versions failed to recoup the porting cost but this is what happens when you stealth release on a store few like, and barely anything else to put it on the map.

I reckon the only way for Microsoft to change that situation is to put more AAA full priced games on the store.

I am still hesitant to buy an expensive game from Windows Store.
Not because of the quality, but by tying the store to the OS, it turns very sensitive to outside interference. Eg a Windows update, disabling a service or using a third party utility can totally mess the system.
Previous Windows versions had also such issues, but never to the extent of Windows 10.

Eg Windows apps refuse to update through the store (error 0x80070490)
It had happened again. I solved it by renaming a folder to .old, yet now it occured again.
Not that I care.

Also I had to create a new user account in order for Store to run. It refused to run on the original account after the OS upgrade from Windows 7. Now this...

Internal Skype and OneNote did not run either, had to download the apps from Microsoft's site

Yeah the Windows Store is finicky. It was refusing to work and I had to uninstall some old visual studios runtimes to fix it. You can't have that sort of stuff happen on what should be your version of the "just always works" O/S store model.

I bought Gears Ultimate to try the store out.

First I had to switch region since Gears 1 doesn't show up on the german store. Easily done. Win-I, change country to Ireland, the store automatically changes and you can buy Gears.

Then I had to upgrade Win10 since mine apparently didn't want to automatically get the november update. The only "quick" fix I could find was using the media creation tool to download an up to date Win10 install. Otherwise the game won't even start. I don't think the game updates for me though, it says there is a new version in the game every time but I can't find a way to force an update. The check for update option doesn't find anything. I think online multiplayer won't work because of that but I haven't tried.

Also the game is only in german. I can't change the language to english or anything else, even though I bought it from the "irish" shop.

I play with a 360 pad which works fine but my mouse cursor doesn't disappear. If I move my mouse to the bottom of the screen the taskbar appears. Not the way borderless full screen window usually works.

Last bit, I can use steam Streaming for the game but since I can't use the steam overlay I don't have 360 controller support. So couch coop is not an option.

Overall I wouldn't ever recommend this to anyone if not half of these points get adressed. This feels as half assed as it gets. I mean I'm happy there will be a Forza on Windows soon but other than that this store is even worse than UPlay.

Why is this store so freaking abysmal???
I mean really - wtf?

So, quantum break is "out of the bag" and i though, "oh, maybe I'd like to try this windows store thing out, now that there is a game that might interest me".

So mr google to the rescue and i type: buy quantum break

1. Very first link is to the xbox version of MS, so , ignoring all best buy etc links, off I go and land here:

So 2 things:
1. I am sigend in already, why do i have to insert my date of birth again?
2. why are you getting in the way of my purchase with additional shit shoving down my throat? can it not wait, while I am happy with the quick and easy impulse purchase i just made? whats wrong with you?

2. So ok, got to the game page:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Quantum-Break-for-Xbox-One/productID.335339100

God, I am so ready to buy this game despite the mild distractions. I m just gonna select Windows instead on xbox and we are gonna be good to go.

- ok, wtf is it?

Its not here. Wtf? Why? Surely I can buy the game by now.

3. Ok, no biggy, lets use the search:

WTF, really? ONLY xbox version?
No, this cant be true, lets check under games.

What the... PC games and Windows games? erm? what? Uhm, ok, lets open both I guess.

Since Quantum Break is, I assume a pc game, lets try those first:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...egoryID=62688000&icid=en_US_Store_UH_games_PC

At this stage I am really confused. WTF is this?

1. The most space wasting useless interface of all time. At least it simple.
2. Most useless filters
3. Loads incredibly slowly
4. Terrible selection of games
5. Terrible pricing
6. NO search, no decent categories, cant tag games unless you open the buy page etc.

... and ofc no Quantum Break.

4. Alright, lets try the windows games:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/games/windows?icid=en_US_Store_UH_games_Win

Ok, why do i see Fruit Ninja and Gears of War on the same page. All this shovelware mixed with decent games. Surely there are some filters here somewhere so that I would not have dig to through this turd pile to get to my game - right?

Well .... sort of.

Only after you have already become frustrated and clicked on "top games", are you treated to a more decent store interface.

So with my hopes up and all those glorious filters available I apply the following:
- new and rising
- device pc
- action & adventure

...and here is what I get:

... a bunch of friggin mobile garbage with 0 new or decent friggin action games.
I mean S-E-R-I-O-U-S-E-L-Y W-T-F is wrong with you? Why?

My eyes bleeding from all the horrid web design, my mind if blown by the utter crappyness and nonsenical usability paths I am forced down on and I feel like shit and frustrated as hell.

I just wanted to buy a game to make me happy that I read was decent.
Why are you doing this to me? I just want to give you my hard earned money. Please take it and give me my game please.

...but no... the game is not there. I cant find it or its not there. I give up. I hate you. I m gonna take a walk coz venting in GAF is not doing it for me at this stage...

I like how games you download from the store launch immediately when you click on the shortcut without having to wait to boot a application, unlike steam, origin, uplay. Feels like playing a DRMless game. If they fix everything and get all game releases on the store it'll probably be the best.

meanwhile its the most DRM-ridden (at OS-level) thing we have seen recently, where you cant even easily access files without some hassle
