Nintendo PR:

"February was a fantastic month for Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, the newest entries in the critically acclaimed strategy RPG series from Nintendo. The games took two top-10 spots on the best-sellers list from the NPD Group, which tracks U.S. video game sales. In little more than a week, the two versions of Fire Emblem Fates totaled nearly 400,000 combined units sold, including physical and digital versions. This far outpaces 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening game, the series’ previous record-holder in the United States, and is a testament to both the longstanding popularity and rapidly growing fan base of the franchise.

Momentum should continue with today’s release of Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, a digital-only third version of the game available for purchase to anyone who owns either Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright or Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. Fans have weekly DLC to look forward to purchasing, as well.

February also saw the digital debut of the 2D Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow games in Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The games instantly shot to the top of the charts, and together, combined to break the first-week Nintendo eShop sales record previously held by Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

With classic graphics and timeless gameplay, these versions of the original Pokémon adventure are proving to be a popular way for fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series."

And Wii U????? Good thank u. It probably just sold like 100 units.

While Naruto does well in the West, Far Cry 4 did over 7 million copies LTD and Far Cry 3 was even higher at 10+ million.

Black Ops 3 is the best selling game of this generation and GTA V is basically the best selling console game of all time, so they have good legs.

True on the FC numbers, but given that Primal seemed to have no buzz in the slightest and the hype for this Naruto game has been real for a while + a slower release month I would have guessed Naruto would have taken it, but I'm not totally floored that Primal did or anything. Just still a bit surprised on Primal though, even the people I know who were into FC3 + 4 didn't even know it came out, and I wouldn't have known if not for GAF. Game seemed almost like it was being sent to die.

BO3 and GTAV should surprise no one, especially at this point. Same for Minecraft.

Microsoft PR:

"The unmatched lineup of games available on Xbox One continues to generate a strong response from gamers as seen through global Xbox Live engagement and exclusive game sales. Compared to February 2015, exclusive Xbox One U.S. game sales drove a 49 percent increase and the total number of hours spent gaming on Xbox One worldwide rose 93 percent. Earlier this week, we launched the Xbox One ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ Bundle to coincide with Ubisoft’s release of ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ and looking ahead to this spring, fans can look forward to the upcoming release of the highly-anticipated ‘Quantum Break,’ launching on both Xbox One and Windows 10 on April 5, as well as the built-for-Windows 10 visual showcase, ‘Forza Motorsport 6: Apex.’ We are truly grateful to our fans for choosing to play the greatest games lineup in Xbox history across Windows 10 devices, and are excited to share more in the coming months on our full lineup of holiday exclusives as well as new innovations, features and experiences coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live.” – Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President, Xbox Marketing, Microsoft

Ouch, basically they're talking about Windows 10 at this point. Transition has begun.

The 'H' stands for hentai.

Oh my, that is amazing.

TL;DR version: Fates is comprised of three different games, with the two released at retail in standard versions offering different gameplay focuses, completely different stories and cast of characters. There's a third version that combines the casts of both games and reuses a few maps, but it too tells its own story.

So they are 3 different games. Thus should be counted differently. SFV beat all 3 FE games then. That's like my saying SFIV is sold 10 million+ copies cause i combined all 5 versions.

Fire Embem is impressive. So how does that compare to the other big strategy game of the month Xcom 2? Do we have any estimates on that one?

NPD is counting it as three different SKUs, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

No. SFV beat 2 of the games. The third version was only available in the Special Edition, which was limited in print numbers, and just saw release as a digital title today.

So Fates is a millon seller, second game on the series to do so and should also be the second best selling game in the series.

Shame about it's scattered release, with it releasing in Europe on FY2016 it's unlikely we'll ever truly know how much it'll sell LTD.

Wow at Far Cry opening above 4, that's pretty impressive.

And did SFV bomb? Did it launch late in the month?

"the total number of hours spent gaming on Xbox One worldwide rose 93 percent"

Hahahaha... congrats?

To be fair, I would imagine investors care about those sorts of metrics. It's not an end-all-be-all number but if they really aren't going to put out sales numbers anymore, it's not a terrible thing to put in your PR.

Xcom 2 sold around 700k according to Steamspy. Pretty wild when you compare it to the other big $60 Steam exclusive this month Street Fighter V which sold 125k.

It launched a week before Primal. Primal had only 5 days of sales for the month.

I don't know about SF5 bombing, but it did not have a good opening.

We got worldwide updates on Awakening somehow, I assume we'll get them here too.

Sony - Pretty straightforward. As expected.

Nintendo - No mention of WiiU on their pr. RIP in peace.

MS - can't wait for Minutes spent PR soon to make the numbers bigger.

If you need to do that for the first new Street Fighter release this generation to beat a niche strategy RPG, then it's still not a great look for it considering how popular it is across online play, esports and general cultural recognition in the west.

Those numbers are amazing for Fates regardless, not so much for SFV.

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that SFV and Far Cry don't have physical PC versions at all. Is this the real, final end for that?

I don't think SFV failed as miserably as I thought it would. It actually did ok. If the game launched with the upcoming march patch I think today we would be seeing a different NPD list.
