NPD Sales Results for February 2016 [Up1: Fire Emblem]

RE6 PS4 edition will save Capcom

Do you guys really think SFV sales are going to pick up? Think of all the big releases that are hitting, The Division, Uncharted, Doom, Overwatch, etc.

The casual buyers are going to forget about SFV quick.

I think the continued content releases will keep it in the minds of people. And there are still a lot of people who haven't upgraded to ps4 yet, especially people who play fighting games, who tend to be a little cheaper and less likely to play other genres of games.

Overall YTD (2016 vs 2015)

PS4 +20%

XB1 -11%

WIU -31%

Sony is doing really well, MS is seeing lowered sales, mostly thanks to PS4 accelerating with its price cut and the XB1 not seeing one in over a year, and NX is coming this year.

do you don't think it won't sell more than ps4 in any month this year? gears month or april for example

Looking at the calendar as of now the only month I give the Xbone a somewhat realistic chance is Gears launch month. Depending on how good it is and what Sony counters with.

April MAYBE if Quantum Break is a surprising hit / super high quality

Am I to assume we won't be seeing another Xbox console next gen but a Windows "X" console that you can buy a PC to play the games or get the box?

Are bundled sales included in that 315,000 Fire Emblem Fates units? If not, then it nearly sold 3.5 times more than Fire Emblem: Awakening (bundles excluded).

Project X Zone - 53,000
Project X Zone 2 - 18,000

Coming out the same week as Fates did it no favors at all. I don't know what Bamco was thinking with that move.

Yikes at Street Fighter V being below 210,000 units, it will be a great contender for the biggest bomb of this generation. Even Super Street Fighter IV sold more with only 5 days of tracking.

There is no way Street Fighter V will come close to reaching Capcom's forecast of 2 million units shipped by the end of March unless retail channels are flooded with unsold copies.

Here is a launch comparison (physical copies) between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V in the 3 biggest regions.

Street Fighter IV

US - 849,000
Japan - 124,000
UK - 88,000

Total - 1,061,000

Street Fighter V

US < 210,000
Japan - 42,000
UK < 24,000

Total < 276,000

Street Fighter IV shipped 2.5 million units worldwide for the period from February to March 2009. With nearly a 75% decline at retail I can't imagine Street Fighter V shipping more than a 50% of what Street Fighter IV did back in 2009, Steam and console digital sales can only do so much.

It's a totally different environment than when sf4 launched, and this post is a great example of why the game is focused on post release content updates and dlc. They need to treat the game like counter strike go on steam and get the base price down ($30 would be great) and develop a working monetization model that doesn't affect the core game play.

I think they should focus on trying to emulate valves success with counter strike by offering "rare" customization items and fight money bets on tournament events.

Match could do it? Division bundle.

Like what?

Looking at Awakening those are huge ripoffs, I mean some of those are quite literally cheats.
Conquest dont allow grinding so I can see new fans buying the maps for money and supports. Also is barely cheats when you need to survive the maps and those scale in difficulty according to your progress in the game.

Then you have the fanservice maps that give you more interactions between the characters and also there are maps that include new classes.

And there is also a DLC unit (Anna) so long time fans might also want to nag that.

Match could do it? Division bundle.

I dont see that doing it, nah. Never know though

Re-release later this year or early 2017 with all season 1 DLC and the modes that are missing.

And by that time there will be newer and bigger games out to grab consumer's attention. Never know it may very slowly leg out a little bit. I just wouldn't put any faith into some kind of mind blowing turn around

Xbox One's bundles are more expensive this year than last year... how do you guys the sales will be? It was predictable.

Either they're fine with current sales, or they have some new hardware(XB1 slime, XB1.5 whatever) for E3 so give up price cut in spring to earn more last money from XB1.

There will be new releases, but not many fighting games.

Xbox doesn't have to catch up with PS4, still out pacing 360 right?

It's going to be hard to keep that up. The 360 had a long life span and it's later years were sparked by kinects success. Worldwide won't even be close. When all is said and done the xbone won't even come close to the 360 in the US or worldwide.

Someone already has Itachi tho :(

How about Sakura? She's a fan favorite.

Where is Ars Technica with their projection graphs to show how big the gap will be if PS4 & Xbox One keep selling at this rate?

lol they went out of their way to show how Xbox One could end up in the lead.

Just looking at January+February, 2016 is the Xbox One's worst year.

However! Sales haven't dropped significantly, and look to be at most, stable. There really should not be any worry for the system just yet.

I wonder how long before sfv goes free to play. I'm sure people that bought it would be pissed but it could be the difference of having a username or not.

Microsofts needs to entice people better especially in Europe. They were aggressive before the ps4 price cut but they've done nothing since to counter it. Feels like they're on cruise control. They also need to clarify the whole upgradable Xbox thing before it gets out of control or they'll have another "always on/no used games" scandle chewing their asshole.

There was no bundle for Fire Emblem Fates.

also lol at Project X Zone, the launch timing did it no favors either

Capcom releases numbers end of this month. We'll see if they are able to even hit 1million WW. I do think it'll have a tail, must be a hopeless optimist.

I think Evo this year gonna break some records.

I assume last year was a last stand type of thing. This year MS is focused more on profit, Of course that's just a guess.

Seems like it to be honest. Pretty much conceded defeat in America.

I believe The Division is the very first new current gen multiplatform IP that MS got right when it comes to marketing deals. The price of the bundle though has to be holding it back.

Anyway, I could see the Xbox One having a shot to win a month soon alongside the White QB bundle pre-order build-up (though by a nose). I could also see a win during the month that Gears 4 launches. Maybe the month that a new (slimmer?) model launches too if it happens this year. But yep -- things are pretty much a lock. Xbox will be second place this gen just like it was for the majority of the previous two generations.

Capcom needs to partner with Sony and come out with a 4 character demo for a PSN+ month. It'll hype players up to get the full game at a slightly reduced price of 40 bucks. It'll work out.

I see the game taking off similarly to Rocket League.

Maybe call it PS plus edition or something to avoid backfire.
