NPD Sales Results for February 2016 [Up1: Fire Emblem]

So Fates is a million seller by now when we throw in two more weeks of US sales, sales to the rest of NA, and Japanese digital to the known Media Create and NPD/Nintendo figures. And that's with EU to go in June.

I can see the title hitting 2M (shipped WW) by the end of the calendar year if legs are good in the west.

Doesn't 400k already place it as the second best selling FE title in the US after that first week?
I'm pretty sure it does. It is going to sail past Awakening like it was nothing.

Which is crazy, given how much higher Awakening was than the games that proceeded it in the west.

I am happy, because I have been a fan since the series came to North America. At least we will not have to worry about missing games again for the foreseeable future.

the ps4 being the only platform doing great in the best overall region for dedicated hardware this gen isn't really a cause for celebration unless you really super like ps4.

i mean aren't there enough signs around to show where things are clearly shifting? does gametrailers shuttering, microsoft rethinking their business in hardware, companies trying one last time for a shot a the rhythm game glory days, and major companies pulling out of e3 kind of send any sort of warning signal that the dedicated industry is at least in serious trouble?

So you say 9 out of 10 of your friends bought it digitally?

No I would assume more people are likely to buy the game digitally because the retail version isn't complete. It Barely has 2 modes and half the content missing. Most people would rather buy a complete physical copy. Basically Capcom shot themselves in the foot.

To add salt into the SFV wounds, the Steam daily player count for the game is woeful, dropping with every passing day. I'd imagine it's the same deal on PS4.

Down to 3k peak players.

I don't think the PC audience for most fighting games is very high. Ultra Street Fighter IV is only 5,000 at all time peak players.

The count dropping is pretty expected given the lack of modes and the lack of rage quit protection. Lots of people are probably waiting for the march update before updating/buying. I'm waiting till story mode is included till I grab it.

So, is Fire Emblem officially a bigger brand than Metroid for Nintendo as of right now? Sakurai redeemed.
jk ...or is it?!

Welcome to NPD threads, enjoy your stay.

Also, back in 2014 these threads had at least 5 bans each. This is tame.

I haven't seen an NPD thread like this since November 2014, there's nothing going on in February NPD that warrants melt downs, even SF fans had their melt down a while ago.

& I'm too lazy to read through the thread lol.

I don't think there's any doubt of that at this point. Two of the last three mainline Metroid titles didn't even break a million worldwide.

And one of them was Zero Mission for the ultimate display of horrible public taste.

Ouch at SFV not even hitting my prediction of at least 400k. I guess its not as popular like i thought. Not having arcade mode must've hurt it a lot.

And wow at the ps4/xbox gap last month.

Just catching up and saw that for Fire Emblem, Conquest sales were actually quite close to Birthright. That is great to see. My sale was actually for the combined SE but would have been Conquest solo.

How much did Awakening sell worldwide eventually? 1.7m? Fates already sold 540k units in Japan at retail, to which at least 43k digital units must be added (eShop Famitsu estimation of the first month) - so 600k units in Japan is a safe assumption. The game sold nearly 400k units in US so a million is a given at this point. Assuming it will stop selling in NA and Europe replicates NA sales (which is a conservative assumption), Fates is already at 1.4m units worldwide. 2m units worldwide is a given.

Awakenign did 1.79 million LT by end of 2014... and yeah, it will most likely sell 2 million.

If Awakening sell 2 million, no way Fates sell less than that. I can see 2.5 million LT, ship + digital.

I guess the monthly gap getting larger this year is really giving some a hard time.

Xbox sales are way down and unlike before there is no way to spin it, coupled with the news/rumors of MS putting more attention to PC gaming instead there's bound to be some angry people because of that.

Quantum Break needs work of mouth hype once released. I think it will do okay at launch but nothing amazing. Long legs if it ends up being a great game.

There's just not a great history of Single player only games doing well on Xbox. Maybe QB can stop that trend, but I doubt it.

So, without getting into actual numbers...

LTD, SW tie ratio: Xbox One > PS4

PS4 HW gap growth not yet translating to corresponding increase in SW sales split on non-exclusive titles.

Couple hypotheticals from that is that the Xbox One has more core, high purchase rate per install gamers than the more mass market PS4 that is selling more software overall. Not surprising really. Other is that SW metrics can trail HW, so we might see these SW measures begin leaning more towards PS4, but it's not happening yet.

Yeah. anecdotal I know, but many platstation gamers I know pretty much buy a handful of games a year, with a not insignificant number only owning less than 8 games the entire consoles lifetime.

Meanwhile Outside the obvious COD+FIFA(I supposed that would be NBA/Madden in the US) crowd, the majority of Xbox gamers I know really buy into the brand, picking up a new title almost every month.

I dont feel that the SW metrics will favour PS4 until if and when it has a significant userbase advantage. I would argue that wont be until the gap is 2-2.5 million. Tie ratio wise, the XB1 will probably have the highest the rest of the generation. So thats something for Microsoft ar least.
Drop by the OT if you need any help

Will do. It is kinda fucking me up that there is not motions or cancels in the game. But footises and baiting mistakes kinda translates well. Shame about the 30FPS though.

mostly just playing story mode at the moment, not really ready for online.

Which gonna be bigger?

PS4 version of The Division in march, or Uncharted 4 in May?

Uncharted unquestionably. Given how marketing deals seem be working out for sales and other recent games like Rainbow 6 Siege and Fallout 4 I'm not so sure PS4 The Division will above the XB1 version either,

Probably Uncharted. The Division has apparently come out to a lot of success but I don't think that it will be able to beat Uncharted. It seems to me that Uncharted is one of the major reasons to own a PS4 in general.

Either way, I think that would be an interesting bet.

Honestly, even The Division for XB1 VS Uncharted 4 could be an interesting battle...

I disagree. Yes, Uncharted 4 is a game which a lot of PS4 player will buy, but i fell like exclusives are not anymore the reason for buy a console.

And i'm sure many agree with me. Just look how big were the PS4 sales last holidays with games like Black Ops III or Battlefront.

Sure i expect Uncharted to be big, but in USA Uncharted was never THAT big, the bigger Uncharted market is the Europe.

Anyway, i believe they will be super close.

I predict both Uncharted 4 and The Division on PS4 at 900,000 first NPD.

Uncharted launching early in the month will help it as well. Will be interesting to see how it does in June because of that but given it should have what, 20 days (maybe a few more) in May NPDs that will be good for it. Positive word of mouth along with the inevitable marketing blitz, bundles and what will presumably be a high scoring game will see it go big

The Division, Uncharted is not big in US.

Pretty foolish to compare when

1) The engaged PS4 userbase is much higher than the first 3 uncharteds

2) There has been such a drought of good first party exclusive content. We could argue the last amazing First party game was bloodborne.

3) So many PS4s wer sold off the back of the Uncharted collection

4) Uncharteds Marketing (and the PS4s in general) has been so much better this gen.

5) We only just had an incredibly successful beta test of the multiplayer mode. Something that Sony has really never choice to market before.

I think Uncharted will just pip the The division myself. Its going t be a massive month for the PS4.

I think people are underestimating the appeal of a franchise like Uncharted to casual audiences that were not as big a part for PS3 as they are to PS4, and the rise in popularity and reputation of Naughty Dog after The Last of Us
