NPD Sales Results for February 2016 [Up1: Fire Emblem]

LOL at using amazon. UC4 was higher then the division for over a day after the trailer despite the division being a few weeks from release and uc4 over 2 months. uc4 is going to be big.

What?

What other exclusive AAA title with even half of uncharteds appeal has launched in the past 12 months, much less first party?
I'm not questioning the appeal of a third person action adventure shooter with a cinematic singleplayer campaign, coop and competitive multiplayer.

What I'm questioning is your argument that the terms of IP ownership or funding has any bearing on the success or demand of a game.

I'm expecting Uncharted 4 to at least do 1 million (including bundles). TLOUr on PS4 did 200-270k in 2 days and charted at #1 in July 2014.

This is the first true ND game for this gen that looks fun, seems to have good writing, has terrific graphics and has great marketing so far. This'll be a game that the "casuals" who only buy a few games a year will even get
My man.

Ain't no Chris Angel Mindfreak, David Blane trapdoor horse shit jumping off here. Tell them. Tell them how it is.

Bonus points for the Tropic Thunder reference :D
Tropic Thunder? What are you talking about? That's a quote from Verendus' autobiography, "Dreams From My Xbox. The One, The Only."

Marketing.

Sony has alot less to lose if something like SF flops over Uncharted. Do you think Sony would have done so much for Driveclub if it was a third party title?

as for demand, you just answered your own question. Its exclusivity is just icing on the cake.

Marketing.
Marketing was #4 in your list. I quoted the first-party aspect which was #2.
I don't disagree with marketing (Your number #4.)

I don't know what "so much for Driveclub" means because they didn't do much for that. I have posted before launch that I suspected the internal reviews were tepid based on the lack of marketing spend.

People downplaying UC4 sales are out of their minds. It will easily repeat TLoU numbers and sell strongly through the rest of the year. It's *the* marquee PS4 game.

Being a first party game means that the game will naturally get more attention on it, both in marketing and general media. People like a big title to show their new consoles off with and to justify their purchase. The PS4 hasnt had one of those in a while. If the "first party designation is what you are struggling with, ignore it. Its more a secondary point that makes the later points possible.

UC4 will sell over 1 million in the first month .
I expect Sony going to be pushing it really hard marketing wise .
And ND name has only gotten bigger after TLOU .
WW 5 million in the first month .

Who are these people? Is it the people who want to justify their console purchases on internet message boards? Because for everyone else those big titles came out just a few months ago along with a deep back catalog.

It's the first Naughty Dog game on PS4, the premier studio for sony, it will have huge marketing, the last 3 games from ND has opened bigger then the last. People now know who they are now. It is the best looking game on console imo, it will be big, anyone underestimating it are crazy imo. It's not the fact that it's first party, it's ND's first game on PS4.

Its more like people are already happy with their PS4s, you dont need to get out many impressive first party titles when your system has constantly the best looking (console) multiplatform version and its often recognized for that.

Let me see if I can take a crack at translating that... (or at least what I theorize is a conceivable scenario, based on not much other than the specific words used):

Original quote:

As you know, Naughty Dog is wrapping up production on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with the game on track to go gold and into production later this month. In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time.

How I translate that from corporate speak:

As you know, Naughty Dog is wrapping up production on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with the game on track to go gold and into production later this month. So, we had some issues with some translation, where the word "Sully" was translated as "Big Penis" in a non-English language. Now, we could have gone ahead and produced units for parts of the world with the "Big Penis" translation, but instead have decided to fix this translation issue, which unfortunately pushed back our global mfg date by a couple weeks.

Or something like that.

What do you consider "downplaying"? Most are saying biggest UC launch ever.

Accepting that the stuff you're into is not what the market is into is hard.

We've had several years of seeing cool games not selling and the same franchises dominating the year end sales and the shrinking of importance of consoles to the overall video game industry.

For years I've said the only thing one can do is to hope that publishers agree that a diversified portfolio is worth it and to enjoy the ride until it ends soonish. (Used to be soon, but the PS4 has pushed it a bit out for traditional packaged games IMO.)

Envious are the people whose taste align with the games that are created based on the chosen strategy of the huge publishers.

Well said.

I think Uncharted 4 will do better than Uncharted 3, but the Division broke the new launch record for Ubisoft and is appealing to a mass Destiny-like cooperative shooter audience. Uncharted 4 > The Division would be a nice surprise for me.

Unless The Division PS4 is hurted by a stronger than usual Xbox One version ? I wanted to ask retail-GAF about this. The Xbox One version of The Division has been consistently higher than its Sony counterpart on Amazon, and right now there are more users reviews for The Division on Xbox One. So compared to others multiplatform games, have you observed a stronger than usual peformance from the Xbox One version because of the marketing deal ?

People are responding to Chobels post regarding UC4 sales....he said it would do Infamous second son sales, worse then uc3.

Now we're going out on a limb!
We will have to see how good Uncharted actually is.
E3 press comments and everything after were amazing (except the veteran's), but does the complete game deliver as a whole?

Anyway, if they don't put "from tbe creators of TLOU" in the ads I'd be very surprised.

I think it possible , Sony started marketing early .
Then we had UCC pack in and open beta .
I think when we see how the marketing is in the upcoming months we will get a better idea .

I was just poking fun at the "not more than those two combined". :D

I say between 900k - 1.1 million.

Damn, I want to play it already.
The same for me. I really enjoyed my time with the beta. I am sure the game will be successful either way. I just need that printed disc in my PS4 asap.

Yeah, Uncharted 4 debuting less than 700K in its first month is impossible. Right now, I'm with Ryng_Tolu on this one. 900K in its debut month sounds right.

I think UC4 will be down from UC3 because of digital, retail have been down for a while now.
Overall UC4 will sell more, but NPD won't track digital, so my bet is UC3>UC4.

Uncharted 3 also had the benefit of the holiday season (November launch, and all of the month in fact).

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Which gonna be bigger?

The Division XBO in March NPD, or Halo 5 in October NPD?

They aren't even in the same league.
Rainbow Six had a bigger debut month than Halo 5, no?

Can't recall offhand but I remember talking about it, something close

No wait it was ~800k, so less than Halo.

Would be nice to know what both games are at so far. Legs and all that.

Guys any number on Xenoblade Chronicle X doing now in US? I remember last time it is close to 200k right?

Roughly 235k

Its not going to catch up to anything unfortunately.

Great game tho, I wouldn't expect Nintendo to be Done with it. It has the acclaim anyway.

Lol, i am not thinking that it is going to catch up with anything.^_^ It is just that, it seems that XenoCross is performing much better here vs the first Xenoblade.(Correct me if i am wrong here.^_^)

I expected a bit more. Not a lot more. Maybe like 250+
Is that including the bundle?

Wait, did it have a bundle in the US?

XB1 not doing so hot right now on amazon (hourly) top 100 chart and the division bundle is at #666 No other bundle in the top 100 (hourly)

I think that the holiday season isn't a very important factor for software sales. Far Cry Primal sold better than Far Cry 4 despite releasing in February. Also, there's little competition for Uncharted 4 in May.

Feeling dizzy from that MS PR spin. Exclusive game sales as opposed to total software sales, XBL hours as opposed to MAU (Lol). My guess is their software sales are shrinking and their MAU numbers are as well. Bringing up Windows 10 was a nice touch and a first I think. It won't be long until their PR is solely based on Windows 10 numbers. They are getting thoroughly smashed by Sony this generation. Even in the US which I think nobody saw coming 3 years ago. My how the times have changed.

Their SW sales are up YoY I believe (I think it was brought up earlier). Exclusive sales are most likely the section that has the "bigger" YoY performance for MS, so they would bring that up.

Also MAU will shrink since it is no longer the holidays.

XBL hours are up though!

While to extent I can understand how they feel that MAU is important there is no reason it can't go hand in hand with actual sales figures.
