Media Create Sales: Week 9, 2016 (Feb 29 - Mar 06)

I guess the way I'd express the distinction is that the age gap of the characters mirrors something like Kingdom Hearts versus Final Fantasy, which I think clearly have a lot of audience overlap, but still some different considerations about who they are targeting.

How old are Cyber Sleuth characters, and how old are Next Order characters? Because as far as I could found on official website, there's not much age difference between the two groups.

How old a character is officially doesn't really matter. You see things like Ayane being 14 in Ninja Gaiden despite looking older and you have 1000 year old dragons like Nowi looking really young. Nevermind it's not uncommon for games to from Japan to have the ages of the cast bumped up when localised for the West. People's opinions at a glance don't change because the official age is different in a manual or on a website they may never see

It's the perceived age that matter and how it might relate to the buying audience. Even if only a few years there can be a big difference between 13-14 year old teens to those who 16-18 in their expectations and what appeals to them

Them being high school seniors that look younger might make sense in a game meant to hearken back to a more innocent era.

Ultimately, if it makes you feel better, I'll switch my argument to "I feel Cyber Sleuth fit the taste of the modern market better because the aesthetic and setup are more in tune with what's popular on the Vita now than Next Order, which looks more like a family friendly game to someone unfamiliar with where the product is coming from, which would be a lot of people in 2016."

I just asked because the user was specifically talking about the age of characters, which officially appears to be about the same. Design-wise, at least personally, I don't see the two games so much diverging that they are catering completely different age demographics. I mean, Next Order characters are not comparable to elementary kids from Yo-kai Watch while Cyber Sleuth characters looks like your typical teen-agers cast from jRPG #149329 - perceived age looks about the same here. Both games seem to be targeted towards a teen-age / young adults audience, with some nostalgia flavour as explained by one user some posts ago.

2 pages questioning about the age of some characters of a particular game...

not so many interesting arguments to talk this week eh ? :D

The Nintendo Selects of Momotaro Dentetsu 2010 keeps selling well on Amazon. This just shows how much money Konami is leaving on the table by not developing a new retail entry, on top of some serious effort in the mobile space - after all, Momotaro Dentetsu has always been a quite successful series and, I guess, not so expensive to produce (I don't know whether there are much licensing fees).

Nintendo's on the case to pick up the slack. :p

FY shipments from Nintendo are these. First FY is the problem.

2.030.000
1.110.000
1.210.000
940.000
200.000
50.000

Shipments from launch (June 23, 1996) to March 1997 look very high considering Nintendo was forced to slash the price from 25.000 yen to 16.800 yen at March 14, 2007

Media Create appears to have N64 even lower than Famitsu.

Thanks. It seems that the decline from N64 to Wii U in Japan is not as harsh as in Western countries.

Well that is pretty obvious thing to say as the starting point in US was a lot higher (N64 actually sold well there). In japan all three consoles bombed (N64, GC, WiiU) so obviously when you start from already low numbers the decline will not be as big.

More like USA. Not western countries in general.
In Europe Wii U / GC / N64 looks close like in Japan, there is still a drop but isn't that huge.

The real reason of this massive drop is the USA, indeed if we see the marketshare, USA for GC was >50% of total sales, while for Wii U USA is just about 40%.

I mean, launch allinied, the Wii U / GC gap WW is about 5.5 million. Of those 5.5 million, only 4.2 million are from USA...

Mario Maker Set re-stock on Rakuten, and of course again sold-out. It's believed that probably starting from March 23rd there would be continuous shipments to stabilize the situation.

..and some people here expected the stock problem will be resolved before March lol.
I was one of those, lol. However, there are some hints about March 23rd, mostly because the release of Splatoon Pia, a magazine/book for Splatoon. There are other coincidences as well (some of them very funny, lol), such as that day is full moon and the Chinese New Year holidays will have finally ended.

I also was doubtful when the blog guy said shortage would continue until end March - beginning of April but looks like he was right. Well let's hope the issue to be gone by then.

There's NO WAY FFXV is going to sell just slightly more than P5. Not even with the series sales declining.

The rest looks in line with my expectations :)

How much is "all that much". There is difference if it is 50, 100 or 200k more.

Why are people predicting a 2+ million year for 3DS exactly?
price-drop will help
I don't think it will help all that much personally.

[3DS] Hardware - 1.789.012

There's no way to put a number on how much the price cut itself will sell hardware, since it will be timed with the release of big games and not happen in the middle of nowhere, but the point is that just because there's a price cut, it doesn't mean that it will counterbalance the natural decline in a major way.
I see your prediction is barely higher than mine, so it seems like we agree.

Maybe they are counting on Price drop + pkmn sun/moon, Yokai Watch 3 and MH Stories. Even for a declining Hardware this 3 TItels (ok MHS is a wild card) could push the Hardware if the releases are near the Pricedrop for some weeks.

What could kill their predictions is if NX is an HH an releases End 2016 in Japan.

Of course, I am too. Something like two months ago, there were people on here doubting the 3DS would reach/pass the PS2 when I mentioned it. I guess now everybody's in agreement.

I think Pokémon is likely because then they could do a worldwide price cut at the same time. They don't have to, but while Japan has many big games this year, the only big one in the West is Pokémon. If they want to do it at the same time worldwide then it will be with that.

Not relevant to your discussion but damn, I forgot the possibility of the NX HH releasing late this year when giving my predictions. And I think both that and Pokemon Sun and Moon being cross-gen with NX are likely. Oh well.

Depending on how far they drop the N3DS (non-XL specifically as a focus here) price, I could see a pretty big sales surge for people who bought an OG3DS due to its affordable nature long ago or even recently, and the price drop would give them a path to upgrade but this would require a very serious price drop. Otherwise it will just have a temporary boost whenever it occurs.

I'd say more but I honestly have like no time this whole week for much of anything due to APS.

These 28 games sold 13.230.621 (74% of total sales). If games that were released the years before are remored there are 21 games remaining that sold 11.158.253 (62% of total sales).
The obvious known 2016 games that will sell more than 100k are these

{2016.01.21} Hyrule Warriors Legends
{2016.02.10} Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final
{2016.02.18} Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

{2016.04.02} Yo-Kai Romance of the Three Kingdoms
{2016.04.28} Kirby: Planet Robobot
{2016.06.09} Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 6
{2016.06.16} Taiko no Tatsujin: Don Don! Mystery Adventure
{2016.07.28} Puzzle & Dragons X
{2016.08.04} Etrian Odyssey V
{16 Summer} Monster Hunter Stories
{16 Summer} Yo-kai Watch 3
{16 Holidays} Pokemon Sun / Moon

In theory 2016 3DS sw won't see a drop, or at least a drastic drop, comparing to 2015.

Pokken is being quite promoted in Bic Camera (Hachioji). There are some stands to try the game, also with the exclusive controller.

Takarajima Stores have re-stocked the Special Edition of Twilight Princess. It seems far more popular than the Regular Edition since the amiibo is included.

Sofmap is helding tomorrow an event related to Dead or Alive Extreme, one of the game producers will be present at the talk experience.

There's NO WAY FFXV is going to sell just slightly more than P5. Not even with the series sales declining.

The rest looks in line with my expectations :)

Well, basically my thinking is that PS3 will help P5 numbers, while I think FFXV will release after P5, and close to the end of the year. I don't think it'll be really front-loaded, but will be a million seller over time.

Less ridiculous than it selling 2 millions by the end of the year in japan alone imo ;)

How many weeks do you think FFXV will have in 2016?
If you think it will have only one week, ~750K first week and >1m LT could be possible.
But if you think FFXV will have 2 or more weeks, that's impossible.
Final Fantasy legs are ALWAYS crap.

still more likely than 2 million. :p

Unless the PS4 suddenly experiences a a cool ten (should probably be plural) or more thousand yen price drop, I don't think PSVR is going to be more than a blip on the radar with its price (which only get higher when you actually want it to work or have Move 2.0 controllers) for this generation of VR experiences.

Around 8 weeks, more or less.
I know my prediction is lower than others, and have probably less chances of happening, but I just don't see it getting a million getting as quickly as former final fantasy games in Japan. The PS4 userbase is different than before, the series is in decline, and the hype is not that strong.
Again, I'm having really different expectations in Japan and the west for this game.
