Man, the salt in this thread. Very entertaining.

Well, deserved CDPR. One of the best games I've ever played.

He suggested that being exclusive helps, I think it's quite the opposite, being multi platform increases your chances.

TLOU is an example for an exclusive that won GOTY despite being one, not because of it, it doesn't mean that if you are exclusive you can't get a GOTY but imo exclusivity doesn't help, maybe it doesn't always harm, but it doesn't help your chances.

It's difficult not to compare the Souls games - I am pretty new to them but after playing DS2 and then going to Witcher 3, man, the combat felt horrible.

Good on those that enjoy W3 but for me there was far too much sitting around watching cut scenes about characters I didn't give a sh*t about.

The Souls games are just action and levelling - something which I am after as I couldn't care less about a fictional story.

And I couldn't care less about combat when everything else is absolutely amazing and almost perfect.

Congrats CDPR.

Excellent game. Also, thanks for the amazing effort in patching it for the PS4. It took a while, but man does the game run/look great now. Best dev support bar none.

In all honesty I enjoyed TW2 more. TW3 was just a bit too heavy on the repetition and monotony, and too much of it didn't properly reward your time, Eg most loot being redundant after a point, and only Witcher gear actually being worth a damn. If they just down scaled the game a touch, or refined it so there was less typical open world dullness or unnecessary narrative lengthening, I think it could have been a much better game.

Oh, and yea the combat was definitely pretty cumbersome. They need to make it far more fluid and precise. Still wasn't nearly as bad as Eldar Scrolls combat though.

Everything else in the Witcher 3 is amazing or perfect?

How many updates they released to fix the frame rate, bugs and the menu issues?

Too much crafting and potions that are useless. Dungeons that sucks (visually and design wise) .

Too many chests that contains garbage loot. After 20 -30 hours, you don't feel rewarded when exploring or finishing quests.

The game has many issues.

Many issues...sure.
And this game ran absolutely fine at release. They made it worse, especially with large patches. Bloodborne was horrible at release. The loading times were awful and the framerate is still garbage....like...in every soulsborne game.

I played both games at release day and I agree Bloodborne had issues too, but The Witcher 3 has many designs choices I don't like and that applies to Bloodborne too. But I'm against the opinion that The Witcher 3 only issue is the combat.

Salt from both Bloodborne and TLOU fans available in one thread, so good.gif. Grats to CDPR, I look forward to Cyberpunk 2077 snatching this title.

Seriously man, the winning game at that year has 21 picks, it's not a good comparison if we want to check who did better.

And hey, the fans themselves felt disappointed after finishing it, I believe that if reviewers had played it on their own time, and finishing it as well, the average would be lower, I believe high 8 or maybe a round 9, but yea, couple of points lower.
I didn't suggest anything dramatic like a 7 MC, but when we are talking about GOTY, a 93 is a very big difference compared to a high 8.
So explain the goty awards and generally high rankings on lists it didn't win and nominations. Why is it rated highly by users on amazon, steam, psn, metacritic etc? It still came out #3 on gafs list even with the amount of vocal dissenters.
Remember the Superbunnyhop review? Even disappointed MGS fans were calling it the best stealth game ever made.

You really arent basing your opinions on anything substantial.

Impressive, I would never said that a polish game company will have this record, maybe Japanese or from USA, but this is a great surprise.

Never played a Witcher game, should I start here?

While its nice to start with the first, its a hard pill to swallow mechanically and visually. Even with the awesome White Wolf HD mod.

I would recommend starting with the second to get a feel for the characters and at least understand few of the returning encounters and themes. The overarching story in it doesn't tie in quite as strongly as your traditional sequel however. So if you MUST start with Witcher 3, you certainly can without much issue.

Beating TLOU is fair, both great games but what Witcher 3 managed in scope is unimaginable

Witcher 1 is great, but it's mechanics are outdated.I suggest reading the story summary online, except if you are going hardcore on this

Witcher 2 is amazing, play the Enhanced Edition to get the real feeling of it and it's significantly shorter than W3,it could be a nice warm up

Witcher 3 is absolutely astonishing, you can start here if you wanna skip the above 2,just read the story summary online from the previous 2 so you can have a feeling of what's happening

I would start with 2. Only takes about 40 hours and you'll be much more familiar with many of the main plot characters. However, if you can't be bothered to do so, 3 does a decent enough job of introducing them to first timers.

Great achievement Cd projekt, really enjoy the series.

That hair, lol he created an updraft when he stood up.

Not surprised...

Deserves even more... These guys are masterminds and put in work to earn this...

They just need more sales. This game should have pushed the franchise into $1B+ territory...

What initial backlash?

Or do you mean the self-created "bad combat" backlash on GAF?

I remember a lot of folks feeling like the game was downgraded from its initial showing, or maybe it was just that pretentious bunch over at PCMR.

How's the combat?

Game play tends to make it or break it for me

I enjoyed it, but people seem to hate it. You just have to learn to use Geralt's abilities instead of mashing the buttons to attack. People use to die a lot because they refuse to use the magic shield or to parry. I was okay with the combat system and didn't think it was as bad as people in here tried to make it look like.

I still just wish I liked the game more. I don't know if I'll ever finish it. Probably the best game I've ever played that I just don't want to play.

Except Gwent; I fucking love Gwent.

Congrats on being the most mainstream appealing game of the year 2015.

For example, 2 years ago Shadow of Mordor and Dragon Age Inquisition were the most mainstream appealing games, and that's pretty cool. And then you have Skyrim in 2011.

I think it's awesome that a wide audience got to experience these games that appeal to a wide audience and so I'd like to once again give props to The Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor and Dragon Age Inquisition and Skyrim for being Western RPGs that appeal to a wide audience and getting all these mainstream awards from the mainstream.

probably the most passive-aggressive saltiest post ever on GAF

I'm curious as to what aspects of the game are so great, that even with so so game play it makes up for it? Just curious

Usually if I find a game amazing, it's largely due to game play and everything else is cherry on top. Is the game play forgiven here because of other aspects of the game? If so, which

Again, curious, as I've been leaning on trying this game for awhile now

Congrats to CDPR for this, devs like this are why I game. While W3 isnt perfect at all, I cant see how they cant just make the next one near perfect. I just thank god we werent subjected to another Bethesda game GOTY shitshow...

Congrats to CD Projekt, this is a great game. But i still think that people praising it too much, TW3 is far from perfect even after patches and DLC, and it's disappointing to see so much people only talking about good parts and completely ignoring game flaws. I only hope that CD Projekt won't become too lazy and self-confident, they need to understand their mistakes and continue progress in Cyberpunk 2077, I'm really looking forward for this game.

It's an amazing game with a really good story, art direction and music and the way the game handle side/fetch quests must be a new standard for RPGs to come but the gameplay and the interface is more than thrash...

I still have Witcher 3 sitting in front of my TV unopened. Stupid SFV taking all my play time, I got to get to this and MGS5 before I die...
