Miitomo |OT| A new way of COMMUnication

I broke, I'm now messing around with this too.
I love it.
It's pretty limited with no friends, which makes the absence of Miiverse / NNID linking even more glaring.
There's loads of potential here, I can see me using this a LOT.

Ok, why is everyone assuming that they need to restart when the English version comes out? For the last time, you will be able to switch to your English speaking region once they go live! That will then allow you to log in to your correct My Nintendo Account!

And you had so many questions answered too!
Are you trying to find out how many questions are in there at this point in time haha?

You're in my friends list twice so who knows, would be great if you could get it back, you put in quite the effort.

I have 1.0.2 (android).
Ah well it's no loss really, I have an infinite supply of cheesy answers.
I'm honestly having so much fun with the app and I genuinely enjoy getting to know people through it.

I think people are just being pessimistic. It's pretty obvious that you can change your region from the fact there's a setting for it that isn't marked as unable to be changed after being chosen like some other settings.

Yeah, that's how I came to my conclusion :

It's pretty obvious from that, but the coin prices also change depending on what region you app store is currently set to as well. (My Japanese Google Play Account switches to the American store if not on a VPN, and the prices change from Yen to USD appropriately.)

I'm a little worried about what might happen when I install the Google Play version over my sideloaded APK when it comes out over here...

As long as you link your current version to your Nintendo Account your data will be saved to the cloud, so you'll (presumably) just be able to delete your current app and download the official one on the day.

Yeah but like, how do we know the access to US Nintendo Account functionality won't require an update? Is it safe to update using a newer APK?

Tried it on my old Android.

Slick, apart from the load times between screens.

I wonder if it's built using Unity? The "power saving" toggle makes me think it could be.

The success of others absolutely infuriates me.
Girlfriend wants to play but she won't disable root for it. It sadly keeps crashing on her Note 3. No real life friends for me :(

Does anyone have a way of updating it without losing the account? I really would like to do an update cause Twitter linking doesn't work (too many following/followers). Game is kinda pointless without friends...

Maybe I was just unlucky with my method (VPN and updating via store).
There must be people that have updated and kept their account.

However, if you do lose it, there's not much of a loss really. You can get your friends back right away since they are all on your Twitter, and you'll get your levels back soon enough too. The answer hoarding will continue, you'll only be locked out of the private discussions you had with your friends, but you can get new ones in no time anyway.

I'm just refraining from answering some of the questions I already answered before as not to flood the feed with answers everyone already read before, but that's it.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Just tried a bit on my Android tablet, a sort-of-early demo before the official Western launch. But I suppose that's not that far off, maybe even early next week. In fact, I just checked the ongoing themed games for clothing pieces in the Shop section: some of them will be over on March 27th, 16:59:59 in Italy (15:59:59 GMT). Now, this corresponds exactly to 23:59:59 in Japan starting from next Sunday. And the Japanese banner has 23:59:59 as the ending time (so, it's not a mere Japanese-to-Italian translation). IMHO, this means that they can't possibly launch it that far into next week, since they should allow users to play those games for enough days.

Yeah, I just downloaded the apk for 1.0.2 and it worked just fine. :) Finally connected my Twitter account and sent out a bunch of friend requests. Hope you guys can accept them!

Yeah, I wanted the shoulder cat but I'm not lucky on games like that, might try again later but I like to hoard money/tickets.
Since it's called game tickets and not Mii Drop tickets, I'm fully expecting new ones.

Has anyone figured out how levels rise?

It's only been out three days but I'm seeing people with levels 7-8 on both style and personality even though you're only rewarded once per day...

Not sure if it's been posted but apparently Miitomo has taken over the #1 app on the iOS AppStore. Can't wait for it to launch in Athe US so I can give it a shot.

While the game's obvious Tomodachi Collection roots suggested as much, Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that Yoshio Sakamoto (and likely most his Tomodachi Collection team) were responsible for Miitomo.

Sakamoto is back!!

Save files are tied to the Nintendo Account, and are the only way to keep using Miitomo across several devices.

So yup, it's possible to get Miitomo from your own country's App Store again, thus being able to buy Coins using Dollars/Euros/Pounds/whatever instead of Yen.

But it's probably not going to be possible to link the game to a new Nintendo Account without starting again.

You can, however, change the country of the Nintendo Account you linked in the first place and this will reflect in-game, according to the settings screen in the app.

Currently that's set to Japan for me, hence I'm getting the Cats and Me Miifoto competition, and some questions with a Japanese cultural flavour, but all the contents of the app save for some notifications from Nintendo are in English.

I'd imagine if you were to log in to your Nintendo account and change the country setting as Nintendo suggests in the app you'll get region specific content.

Could be. Just stumbled across this. Though there aren't any obvious Unityads on Miitomo, so if the app is built with Unity and is integrated with Unityads, the ads might be hiding as "watch-to-earn" ones where you get coins etc. for watching a video.

I enjoyed the heck out of Tomodachi Life and this looks to be just as fun at the very least.

Temporary fix for the caps lock issue is turning off auto-capitalization in your Android settings.

Settings -> Lauguage & input -> Google Keyboard -> Preferences -> Auto-capitalization

Thanks for this. I had to google how to turn off caps and apparently the solution was already posted here all along. ^^;

Sorry guys, had a busy day. I'll update the list tomorrow morning (including those who sent me PMs).

Btw OP still hasn't told us what the OT title means right? It's killing me from the inside, I have to know

Or change it to

Miitomo |OT| Tomodachi Lite

Could be.
I stopped being lazy and opened up the APK. Enlightening!

Miitomo
—created using Cocos2D & CocosBuilder
—uses Twitter Fabric
—uses Crashlytics

listing of filenames (1.0.2):
http://pastebin.com/Lq6GSeGm

Other interesting things:
—CocosBuilder was used due to presence of many .ccbi files
—SVN for source control (Android 1.0.2 seems to be SVN commit 10585)
—packed texture sprite-sheets (.pvr.ccz) have lots of unused space for future graphics/features
—uses proprietary Nintendo .msbt files like most of their recent console games
—lots of lighting techniques at play judging by the look-up-tables and gpu-shaders present
—uses DeNA's Mobage emoji library
—uses Nuance's Vocalizer for Text-to-Speach
—references to TV & Chromecast support
—some sounds are in .wav format
—font used is "Seurat" by Fontworks Japan Inc. http://fontworks.co.jp/font/classic/seurat/L.html
—some assets are labelled iOS (with Cocosbuilder you build natively for iOS then compile to native Android)

I really enjoy the app but at the same time I don't wanna get too invested since I guess I'll have to delete my current account in order to use the app downloaded from the app store once it releases in the West.

The FAQ says you can redownload the app and continue where you left off as long as you had set up the link to your Nintendo account. I assume that it wouldn't matter which region's app you download it from. If you have multiple Nintendo accounts, that is a different story, however.

Yeah, but what I worry about is if I can update the side-loaded app because now you can only select 'Japan' as a region and so I can't link my EU NNID to it. :/

Ah, fair enough. If you already had linked your NNID to it (with a non-Japan region), it wouldn't let you link it to Miitomo yet anyway.

Thank you for unearthing this!

This is actually quite shocking given how Nintendo has always prided itself on making things using their own toolkits, engines and APIs, or writing low level physics engines for even the user interface. So a big change in developer culture must have happened to make sure this app exists.

I'm guessing they've used other tech because they are targeting "mobile" as one single platform, spanning iOS 7, iOS 8 and iOS 9 and Android 4.1 through to 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 5 and 6, which is what Square Enix did when deciding to adopt Unity for all future games that get released across iOS, Android, Vita and PC.

But yeah, the main difference is that Nintendo has able to maintain a great user experience with Miitomo, even if the underlying code isn't "pure" Nintendo code. Though I have noticed stuttering when scrolling through the UI at times -- probably garbage collection...
