I Grusing love this game.

Recently re-aquired a copy after selling mine a while back. Totally worth it.

Starting another playthrough to celebrate!

Picked up a few extra DS games for the collection off eBay this week

Been interested on getting my hands on Orcs & Elves for awhile now and Namco Museum will be great to have around ^_^

Congrats! Orcs and Elves is a great old school dungeon crawler. Very fun and not too difficult, the game works great on a handheld. Wish id made another game like it.

If you really like OE try Dark Spire from Atlus. Tough as nails but a good game nonetheless. Great music too.

Well I'm really getting into First Person Turn Base RPGs at the moment thanks to Etrian Odyssey, am on the hunt for Dark Spire but seems I'll have to pay abit for it.

Went on a little buying spree for some DS games that I ultimately want for my collection but that I also plan to play.

Pokemon White
Pokemon White 2
Pokemon Diamond
999

Pokemon games are coming from Amazon Warehouse Deals, so they should be coming complete. 999 is of course new.

Still going to be looking for Platinum and Soul Silver to complete my DS pokemon collection but I know both of those are pricey.

Mostly limiting myself for now to things I want to play so my DS collection is pretty small. But it is always fun raiding the local Disc Replay to see if I can find something that catches my eye.

I just realized something...Contra 4 was the 1st Contra I've beaten!!!

I love Contra 4! But did you beat it on Easy or Normal? I think Easy omits the last 4 or so levels. But yeah, Contra 4 is one of my favorite DS games ever.

I don't have the Pokémon DS games and I'm not sure if I'll come to regret it. I'm not a Pokémon fan now, but can see myself becoming one someday. I've been enjoying Pokémon Red on 3DS VC. Didn't particularly enjoy X when I played it, too easy.

Been a while since i bought anything for my DS collection, finally picked up BlackJack hi no tori hen. Plays very similar to fist of the north star where it's an interactive manga but instead of fighting you are doing surgery to save people it's a really fun game.

Been patiently waiting for prices to drop on Amazon J, now is my chance. Ended up ordering another 14 DS games to play, another nice mix of weird & quirky games along with a few non gaming pieces of software. Proper pics when they eventually arrive, til then....

Quite suprised at the chibi maruko chan, at first glance i thought it was going to be some garbage kids game, turned out to be a really charming & well made mini game collection with a fun story. The only game that i had to resort to a used copy as new ones are pretty expensive.

Is here or elsewhere any kind of huge Nintendo DS collection video or pictures which can help me as an example and guide to buy more DS games? There was Retrocalypse videos on youtube a few years ago and I remember that I made a to-buy list (I cant find it!!) based on his videos but now everything is deleted. Im looking for a similar visual reference. Is too much to ask?

Problem with using peoples youtube collections for new game ideas is they all start looking the same as they all own the same layton games the same pokemon games the same mario games the same phoenix wright games ect...

The best way i found is to use Amazon, goto the DS section and then just browse through one page at a time. When you see a game box that looks interesting then do a google search on it or search on youtube for some footage. It's how i'm looking for new Japanese DS games i may have missed i just browse the DS section on Amazon Japan, there's loads i have found using that method. While not every single game may be on there i'd say about 90% are for Amazon J. Not sure how well stocked the other branches of Amazon are for DS games.

Completed my DS pokemon collection this week. All of them were priced reasonably except Soul Silver. And of course the one I wanted the most was Soul Silver.

I'll try to get all the cases together for a picture later on.

Did you get both versions of everything?

We have Pearl, Platinum, Soul Silver, Black, Black 2. I was considering buying the corresponding games (you know, to trade with myself) but HeartGold got craycray in price.

When they came out I bought one version. Had Pearl, Heart Gold, Black/Black 2. Ended up buying Diamond, Platinum, White/White 2, and Soul Silver. Plan on playing through all the ones I bought recently too.

Soul Silver actually arrived on the 6 year anniversary of the release day here in North America.

Finally passed my next goal marker, now hit 253 Japanese DS games. Onwards towards that magnificent 300 but it's getting harder now finding games i might want. Will have to start looking a bit towards America for those western exclusives that didn't hit Japan.

Tempted to pick up a DSi there, but honestly I'm fine playing DS games at native res on my 3DSXL, and I haven't been paying my DS much mind lately, anyway. I'll put it off.

More DS goodness, although there was one casualty & something i seem to find happen with annoying frequency. Games that are listed as new but they fail to mention it was getting a suntan in the shop window so my copy of sakura note is pristine inside but the cover art has screwed up colours where it's been baking for months in the window. Looks like that one will be going on the junker pile till i get a cheap copy & swap out the covers.

I am wondering which is the best DS to play games. I am torn between the DS lite and the DSi. What I really like about the DS lite is the possibility to autostart games and the buttons are nice and smooth. On the other side the buttons of the DSi are fine too since you have better haptic feedback.

But I am always asking myself which of both has the better display. In the end I would decide for the DS with the better display but I dunno which one it is. The DS Lite as more ppi since the screens are smaller but does not have the high brightness settings as the DSi... However battery life for the DSi is quite bad compared to the DS Lite. Are there more differences, maybe in regard to colors and general display quality?

/edit

Just figured out that the good old DS has even higher pixel density lol

Picked up Kirby Mass Attack on a whim recently, just beat it last night. Man, what a seriously, quietly fantastic game. It keeps giving you new stuff throughout, but it's always something fun, and well founded in the games mechanics. It never felt to me like "meh, we have to make a new gimmick for this stage/world, I guess this will do." I was also impressed with the variety and frequency of the bosses. And the game wasn't a cakewalk either. I can't even imagine trying to get a gold star in every level.

Oh, and lest I forget, the "extras" minigames are mostly fantastic.

Squeak Squad worth picking up, or should I just wait for Robobot?

Another one to the collection, the games are hardly stellar but there's some fun ones on there. A decent enough compilation.

I wish rocket slime wasn't so pricey. I never had the chance to pick that one up because it didn't release in Europe :/

Does anyone have experience with DS games that no longer hold a save file? I tried booting up my copy of Meteos and I'm greeted with a message about how the cartridge can no longer hold a save and all my data is gone. I get this every time I play it and can no longer save anything to it.

The JP version isn't so bad and it's not too hard to follow in a foreign language.

Rocket Slime is a blast! Just pony up the $20 or so that it goes for. Fun game and very easy to 100%

Yeah, no. It'd have to be an English copy for me! I'm sure it's easy enough to follow but the writing seems charming as hell from what I can tell, I don't want to miss out on that. Plus my Dragon Quest collection wouldn't feel complete without one.

I'm assuming that second post was directed at me too, Jake? Cart only maybe but a complete copy of Rocket Slime does NOT go for $20 as far as I can see. More like $70. (I have to import it to be fair, maybe there's better deals from US only sellers.)

I'll just try to keep my eye on auctions and see if I get lucky. There doesn't seem to be too many copies in the wild though.

Haha, yeah. You gotta keep in mind a lot of sellers don't do international shipping, which can make things somewhat difficult when you're dealing with a more niche game. Right now on our local eBay site there's a new auction from the US going on but the shipping is ridiculous because it's using eBay's global shipping program, which will also mean I'll have to pay taxes on it if the bidding price gets high enough, something I'd generally not have to do for a single game because customs aren't too strict here. I'll see if it goes ignored though, if it does I might be able to snag it for a somewhat decent price.

The other one is a UK seller that's selling it for the aforementioned $70 + some pretty pricey shipping because it's a "rare game", which I suppose it is, especially over here of course. And while I'm sure I've missed some deals I've tried to keep an eye on listings once in a while and those prices seem to be the norm unfortunately. Dunno of those actually sell though.

And that's it. The rest of it seems to be cart only, which is a no go for me.

There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of sellers that offer both worldwide shipping and a reasonable asking price for this one. Good on them I suppose. I'm sure I'll get lucky one of these days.

So it seems like Nintendo has ceased printing of all DS games huh? There's definitely some games I'm still on the hunt for, guess now's the time to get on that.

More weekend purchases all mostly within the 1000 yen price range, although one of them was over 2000 yen as it's pretty expensive even for a used copy.
