Quantum Break Gamersyde preview. HQ gameplay inside.

The most annoying thing about Remedy is that they take ages to produce their games, as good as they are there's absolutely nothing in QB that takes 6 years to make, it's a 7 hour linear shooter, doesn't have multiplayer and other core features, an experienced team of 150+ people like Remedy should spend 3 years tops to make a game like this. Again look at ND and Uncharted, comparable scope, hell Uncharted even has multiplayer, and that only took 2 years on lastgen, and 3 years on ps4 due to scrapped material. Just seems like mismanagement.

First of all, nice to see you dragging your tired bullshit narrative from the Digital Foundry thread to this one. Based on your post history, I've learned to ignore your posts, but against my better judgment, I'll bite.

Now, about that six years thing. Quantum Break started development in 2012 after Alan Wake's American Nightmare and the scrapped Alan Wake sequel that Microsoft didn't want to do at that point in time. As did Uncharted 4. What makes you think Remedy didn't scrap material? Hell, they changed their entire cast last year.

Naughty Dog has over 300 people working on Uncharted, as confirmed by Neil Druckmann at last year's PSX. Remedy has around 150 employees, like you said. Math ain't hard.

Oh, and nice to know you've already finished it, since you seem to know the exact length and core features of the game, which most people still don't know about.

I try to avoid this console warrior bullshit, but come on man, as a fellow gamer who enjoys games regardless of the platform, I'm just asking you to stop with this stuff. It's not a good look. Have a nice day.

This is early stuff too. I just finished the game last night... the debris and amount of graphical effects at once is sometimes just staggering. Just you wait.
The premise gives them a lot of leeway to go crazy, looking forward to see where they go with it.

Hey does anyone how the free PC version thing works (along with the Alan Wake freebies) when you preorder. I already pre-loaded mine on Xbox One does the other content just become available on release or should I have received some sort of notification about the other freebies.

Come to papa.
Perfect. You're hereby promoted to console wars private first class.

Its just so silly. I get the image quality argument and yes i can see its soft but I don't understand why we have to be so myopic with our analysis. Every game is a compromise of resources, QB has chosen to prioritise these stunning effects over the number of 'p's to create something amazing looking.

Why do we spend so much time chasing after numbers rather than just enjoying what we are seeing/playing?

"KORNdog If QB was 60fps i'd see the benefit of that decision. Like battlefront. But to be 720p and have screen tearing and frame drops and LOD and IQ issues...its pretty shit. (7 Hours ago)"

Funny. Wonder when he will enter the thread.

yup. that's me. and i stand by the comment. i find it unacceptable in this day and age. 720p should have died last gen. but if it is there is expect a good reason for it (60fps)

Great vid. Thanks for this.

You bet. Will be doing a tech video on release as well as a Walking the Walk tech and game discussion video upon release. Will post it. Oh and of course the review lol.

I just hope some of the hyperbole on both sides dies down a bit.

Bit weird tho that they do a big preview event and let people make vids when there is a big patch on the way?

I have to say you are my fav reviewer, really great and thoughtful reviews, and I like the "buy or wait for sale" review scale

To me its just a single choice in a sea of choices made by thousands of devs. Viewed that way its not weird or odd. Its just a choice that a dev/pub made.

Looks amazing. Damn. Yes the xbone is a disappointment and I'm sure Microsoft would like to bury it in the desert with that Atari ET game. But fuck me I'll say it again, that looks amazing.

Question, how many Ps does a game need to be a good game??

Shardlight is a great game and I think it has like 2. 2p's lol

Is does though - at least on this footage.

QB has a lot of great effects, it looks amazing for 720p, more in line with a 900p game, but it's overall IQ is very soft and below that of 1080p games even open world ones viewing this footage.

But so what? They traded flashy effects and interesting gameplay mechanics for resolution which dropped overall IQ.

The game will do better if people stop wanting a narrative it's the best looking on the console (because it's not) and focused on what Remedy seem to have, which is interesting effects and gameplay.

It's certainly looking more varied than AW's one note flashlight mechanics which is great, and it looks much better than other 720p titles on XB1, which is also great.

If it's turns out to be a terrific game through your then that's good enough surely?

TD on XB1 is also not native 1080P, most of the time it's 900P, so your IQ claim is not relevant, and obviously QB got much better character models, amazing effects, and overall much better fidelity, how can an open world game be comparable if we are talking strictly about visuals?

OK I've seen the footage, kinda agree with Gamersyde unfortunately, when you see high quality footage, it looks pretty muddy and not as impressive,at least in the "visuals" video, didn't see the rest.

Some of the textures are low quality, bad LOD as well which is a surprising for a linear game, jarring pop ups, I'm pretty disappointed.

Is that a
"correct there will be a patch"
Or a
"correct there was a patch and it looks better"
correct? :)

Patch/update whatever you want to call it is later.
EDIT Supposedly I already have it,.,.though it doesn't seem I do

I think 720p is a dissapointingly low resolution for a 3D game this generation.

But I also don't think it'll hamper my enjoyment of the game. I normally adjust to low resolutions fairly quickly and stop noticing/caring if I'm having fun. And I'm talking 480p or less on big HDTVs.

I am a total effects whore, so I don't mind the presentation at all.

I think it was a good idea to embrace 720p and go all out on what they intended. Hopefully it pays off for them.

Is some of this destruction canned? There's no way this gun should be taking down these huge pillars like this, it looks overblown. Nothing wrong with a little exaggeration though for a more cinematic presentation, but it does not look accurate at all.

That 720p! My eyes are bleeding!

(am i doing this right?!)

Game looks incredible, will be my first windows 10 store purchase (start the stoning now!).
Windows 10? Why would you be playing at 720p. Perhaps when you buy your windows 10 copy and put all your sliders to max or high at 1080p/1440p, I can't imagine you'd be salivating to play the 720p XB1 version....

That gif from earlier in the thread looks amazing though - it has crazy physics. I have a feeling once the game is released, we'll get full confirmation that the game is 100% 720p from start to finish and that the visual effects in the game will justify it. The final Digital Foundry article will be illuminating...

Think you are confusing the bullet damage with the time power visuals wich effect those pillars and maybe looks like the are torn down with bullets. :)

? nothing is taking the pillars down. It's the distortion of the time dodge you see.

The pillars are fine and they are not taken down

it's because of the time power just like what's happening to the ground.

Well I probably won't be (who knows, isn't the win 10 store killing games?!) but I would if I had too, my point was more that despite the lowly number of p's this still looks incredible in the vids.

Great vid. Thanks for this.

There is no big patch. We (Remedy) have never said said so. There is a Title Update, the reviewers already have access to that and also the list of what it fixes. Mostly bugfixes, some UI changes, localisation improvements and improved load times.

Hmm Thats not the information I have. Need to go back and look at my notes. Definitely haven got an update. Odd. Did that go live at the same time. I see notes saying patch is End of this week? Though title updates are indeed...patches

The effects are really what set this game apart, while you are fighting it looks outstanding, but the in-between parts when you are just walking- not so much.

The game itself looks like a lot of a fun btw and that what's important, I'm sure reviews are going to be favourable.
