Fire Emblem Fates Translation Project CEASED

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I'm not sure what the point is of doing a fanslation for a game that was confirmed to be localized anyway from the moment it was announced.

Surprised they didn't get C&D'd though (or they did and are avoiding mentioning it, I guess).

Not surprised it got ceased and desisted. This has happened to multiple other translation projects in the past so i wouldn't put it past Nintendo to do this.

People wanted a non treehouse changed product. something akin to a director's cut if you will (even if the dialogue was messy on the translation side)

Was not C&Ded the team just Ceased translation and felt burnt out.

Because people are really bitter about the localization changes.

Also these dudes always rubbed me the wrong way. Reminder they basically threatened Patrick Klepek.

Yeah, not sure why it was that necessary. Outside of a few questionable lines of text out of the several thousands, the localization is pretty good.
At least it wasn't a cease and desist

Well, to fight CENSORSHIP, of course.

Weirdly enough, didn't this project actually start before all that dumb CENSORSHIP nonsense started going around?

I mean I can get that, but aside from the minor dumb non-issues that people got wrapped up in, there's no real benefit otherwise. The target audience for this would've been minuscule and everything else I'd seen indicated that the fanslation was incredibly dry and literal, which just seemed to make it a chore to read through.

Whoa, I had no idea about that. That's awful.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
I don't think it's a secret this whole Fire Emblem Fates issue has been tinged by Gamer Gate, right?

Considering how that boycott turned out, I'd say an "extremely small, super tiny amount of people are really bitter" describes the situation more fittingly.

A super vocal minority is probably the best way to put it. It's definitely a minority but those people are sure trying to make their voices heard at every opportunity.

Is there a list of changes out there? I just started playing the game; I knew there was a face touching minigame thing which would make those really weird first-person conversation scenes extra weird. What else was altered?

Should mention that only the translation is ceasing. To quote what they've stated on their post.

"This does not mean restoration is dead. That is a separate project run by separate members of the team."

Other than Swimsuits being removed, and one of the many, many supports being a bunch of ellipses, not too much.

Translation project ceased kinda means that or is the topic name not correct? (being serious not trying to be snide/offensive/anything hateful in this comment)

and to a question above about this being started before the talk of censorship, I believe it was announced as soon as it released in japan since there was talk back when people mis-translated camilla's relationship lines (i forget the actual term and i dont want to say social link)

In terms of actual cut content that wasn't changing dialogue and whatnot, all the swimsuits (and Toga) got removed over here. That's pretty much it.

You are correct in that they're no longer translating any of it, but the team itself is still working to reimplement what was removed for the NA release.

"Who will save us from the Treehouse-SJW-communist agenda now? Truly a dark day in human history, censorship wins again. I am an idiot who wants direct translations because I don't understand linguistics." - An egg avatar on twitter, probably.

Makes me really concerned that the Captain Rainbow fan translation still isnt done cause they cant find anyone willing to imput the text into the game. Maybe these dudes could do that please?

It's as much a secret as Red Dead Redemption 2!

Which was actually a change I didnt mind. It was hilarious.

Agree. The original was really bland. The "ellipses" accomplish a similar effect (they're both silent assassins on opposite sides, so they're not that much different) in a much more effective and memorable way.

I mean it's obvious the fan translation wasn't going to match in quality to the original translation, despite how you might feel about all the changes.
Good thing the restoration project is still in the works. Hope something comes out of it.

There's pretty much only one thing I didn't love about the translation, which was that one ellipses support convo. But it's one out of thousands and I can go online and read what the original context was. Otherwise the translation has actually been pretty fantastic.

From what I've heard, that project was also ceased despite all text being translated. Sadly, the text hadn't been published.

In the end, it's accurate to say most people didn't care about this, considering Fates had the best western debut in the series' history. Even with the unacceptable Treehouse butchering that turned this game into literally SJW propaganda.

This was obvious from the get-go. Translating a gargantuan game that is already going to get translated officially is like a giant waste of time. What were they thinking in the first place?

There was no reality where this would actually get finished to completion.

Well, to fight CENSORSHIP, of course.

I found the English version translation to be kind of ass, and was interested because I had been told that the Japanese version conveyed what the characters were better.

Not everything is GG anti censorship nonsense. I wanted to know if this was an FF8 situation.

Haha, this is too funny. Making all that fuzz about the translation not being accurate and then not being able to deliver. These guys (and maybe girls) are a joke.

Big downside: no more stupid hilarious pictures with before and after translations.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
No surprise. The game has thousands of lines of dialogue and the cherrypicking of a few of them isn't enough to say it's a "butchered" translation. Those people need to play Cyber Sleuth for a bad translation.

From what I've heard, that project was also ceased despite all text being translated. Sadly, the text hadn't been published.

That's odd considering there's very little chance Captain Rainbow is going to get localized. Unless Nintendo surprises us with "Captain Rainbow HD for NX".

This whole thing was just embarrassing and gross. They all deserve to feel very ashamed of themselves and the agenda they tried to push.

The only thing changed in characterization was that ellipsis support, which was just one of many. The vast majority of characterization was left intact and the Torrential Downpour thing pretty much cherrypicked a small few samples of dialogue and blew them into being much more than they were (before the game even came out to boot).

Aside from that, the fanslation would've been the same game but with facetouching, swimsuits, and a much blander script. It was just an unnecessary effort.
