Irritated.

(with this near confirmation, allow me to go off the handle and be reactionary)

Eff. What the hell, they're really going through with this haptic button shit?! Even Nintendo can't pull this off, you have to keep your eyes on the controller to make sure you're even hitting the button. Your fingers have no feedback to keep them guided on the button, it slips 1/4" and you're suddenly not hitting a button but you have no idea. People are excited for this? Why because it'll vibrate when you hit a button? That's going to be so damn annoying after about 3 minutes.

I just can't make sense of this.

ok, I feel better.

I like it. Way smaller than the Gamepad, and I'm happy that someone finally took the steps to remove buttons from the controller. Everyone else wants to stay in 2005, that's their decision, but give me the new shit.

LMAO. I hope you're joking. Wait, I know how to play this right......
Sticks are so 2000, why not remove them? Oh we already have that? Right, it's called a phone nowadays!!!! But... but...but it's oval!!!!! Yeah right, man, I still have a soft spot in my heart for Nintendo but i hope this some crazy photoshop or viral marketing shit otherwise: Nintendo go home, no one needs you anymore.

failure to launch before it launches

Someone photoshop the controller on the failure to launch poster

Well this is starting to look legit. I'm still indecisive on the design, but the main thing that bothers me is that there's no buttons. The thought of a controller for a console without buttons, just baffles me. I just need to see it in action before giving my final verdict.

Yep, it's real.

And further evidence that they just don't fucking learn.

I seriously hope this is the portable device and not the nx controller.

Does anyone really want a handheld with no discrete buttons? Those already exist- Commonly known as phones and tablets.

I heard it has eye-tracking and mind-control (through the "headphones" you see in the pics) instead of buttons.

I'm banking on this being an "elite" version that has the controller as a mobile unit, while they also release a standard version with something like the Wii U Pro Controller...

Banking hard...

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Has anyone thought that this might be the handheld controller, while the one for consoles will be a version with grips?

I'm merely basing this off the fact that the controller in the patent had grips on it.

No bald cap? Lies!
On one hand I'm scared, on the other, the Wii U Gamepad changed from the first time it was publicly revealed and release

They made it a little wider to offset the thumbsticks, that's basically it. If this leak is the real deal there's no hope for any serious design changes between now and release that would address any of the major issues with the device as we see it now. They're not just going to magically add real buttons, change the entire shape to something not stupid. Maybe they'll make palm grips standard or alter the rear panel to be more contoured to your hand, but that's about it.

If the NX really is running Android, then maybe Nintendo are prototyping this concept to allow for removable analog sticks/buttons and such so that you can use your phone to play Nintendo games from the android store or even using an official Nintendo app to utilize your phone as a handheld running games locally, not streaming.

It would allow for people to play NX games on their phone while their out and sync their progress with their NX home console.

Using android to sell people Virtual Console titles that can be played on their phones would actually make sense if there were proper controls rather than touchscreen only nonsense.

I don't mind if this is the controller as long as it's only optional and has a second more traditional one. Tbh, just keep the Wii U Pro, add a headphone jack to it, better triggers, and bam. Perfect controller.

I think the problem with people comparing this to fake button gaming as you'd use on the iphone or ipad is that this is incorporating the element of haptic feedback, which if it works well, could be a complete gamechanger since haptic feedback adds a tactile response to digital buttons

If they use haptics properly, I can see this giving developers more freedom in designing the controller they need. Only need sticks and one big button? You got it! Want to have an Affordable Space Adventures-style dashboard? You got it!

I'll wait to see how Nintendo displays this at E3 before passing judgment. I'm probably in regardless since I'm such a fan of their games, but I was wary about the Wii U and I've had so much fun playing Nintendoland and Game and Wario with friends on the system.

Considering my favorite nintendo controller is the gamecube, anything after that was gonna disappoint me anyway.

The Pro Controller is second place.

There are no buttons though.

Yes but giving this up allows for infinite control schemes tailored to each individual game. The sticks are surrounded by a touch screen correct? Even for gestures alone this could allow for more seamless controls. Want to throw grenades in call of duty? Flick your thumb up the right side of the control stick. Cycle thru weapons by sliding along the bottom of the control stick.

Want to introduce someone to gaming? Have the controller display button prompts. Want to learn a combo but just can't get the timing right? Have the controller show you right there on the pad.

I think there's great potential.

Man am I sick of Nintendo's gimmick controllers.

This has really deflated all interest in the NX that I previously had.

I'm confused, slightly scared. But hey, new things are supposed to make us feel weird.

e3 is going to be pretty interesting this year.

I need to feel it for myself.

With how much we've heard of an NX being both console and handheld how does this fit in?

Also how would stuff like Zelda or even Mario Mario work? Nintendo has always had a D-pad.

It certainly looks nicer in black. I just hope it has triggers as well as scroll wheels.

I could see scroll wheels and triggers being fine for most games (alongside secondary buttons on the screen).

Yeah, non-physical buttons might be an issue for many. Hopefully they can pull it off.

I'd like to clarify and say I believe if anyone can pull off making a fantastic face buttonless controller, Nintendo can do it. It's just not something that interests me.
